Xbox 360 Live demo availability thread

The combat is fairly cool once you get down the charging attacks and mix up your weapons so you have one that doesn't drain your SP too fast. The problem is its so pure slashy that it feels completely empty. It's actually a lot like Phantasy Star Online, only without the lobbies. So it could be fun in co-op, but I think I might hold out for Too Human, which looks less slow and clunky than this was.

This was my main complaint. For an action RPG, this game's combat is extremely basic (like PSU). The combos look good, but for every weapon, there is ONE 4-5 hit combo done over and over. That + linear enviorments means extremely repetitive gameplay.

On a side note, has XBL been acting fishy for anyone besides me lately?

Too hot for America? Or they don't want the demo to sabotage sales?

I haven't seen anyone mention but I saw an ad on my dashboard about The Club stating that there would be a demo available to download in four days and that it would be single-player and multi-player.

The Club is garbage.

I'm with you.

There was an earlier impressions thread (on the UK version) and someone complained that the game felt like a lightgun shooter (i.e. "on rails gameplay) - I totally agree and that's what really stuck with me throughout. I felt like I was playing Lethal Enforcers but without my badass pink lightgun. I had a tinge of fun...but after one run I was done. Disappointing...especially since this is a Bizarre Creations title.

Demo: The Club (North America)

The Club demo that was previously released in Australia. Europe and New Zealand is now available in North America.

I sort of enjoyed the one round of it I played this morning. The shooting seemed a little imprecise, but I didn't take time to dial in the sensitivity, so that may just be a personal thing. It looked nice enough and I enjoyed the idea of killing purely for points and combo bonuses. Seems like the sort of game you'd see perfect run and speed demos on.

I'll play it some more tonight (between Griffball and Burnout) and see if I was just woozy this morning.

I guess The Club clicked for me 'cause I played the demo stages about 10 times.

The controls feel a bit slow, in more than just the aiming department. Also, one oversight I can see considering the way the stage is designed and the way it plays, there should be a cover mechanic for shooting around corners. Also, the basic A button roll and the Gears of War shaky came sprint mechanic feel as if they should just fuck it and combine them together, directly imitating GoW.

On the other hand I feel this is one of those games which is greater than the sum of its parts. The overall concept and the pieces made it really cool for me. The idea of lots of gunplay score attacks with heavy leaderboard integration is great, and there seems to be a fair amount of depth in how you can combo kills together. Yes, it is a bit like a light gun shooter but there is more to it than that. It's like being /in/ an arcade rail shooter rather than looking through the window at it, and for me that's actually rather cool.

The demo may not show it off well enough however because the two prison courses do not seem to have much of the "style" triggers the tutorial talks about. If other courses or levels incorporate those heavily it could help distinguish the game even further.

But hell, right now there's really nothing out there - that I am aware of - like The Club.

I think the key to having fun with The Club is the sprint button. I thought it was pretty meh before I tried stringing combos together and sprinting from guy to guy. The weapons feel nice, the skullshots are a cool addition, and the kills are satisfying.

I love it.

Turning Point: Fall Of Liberty demo is up. :)

I am the only one who receives "Can not retrieve information from LIVE" messeages? It's like when LIVE was (mostly) down, I've to try and click a bunch of times if i want to achieve something, like browsing on the marketplace. This is getting ridiculous, honestly.

I have the same problem. Da** it!

Ps. Demo only for Gold members.

I'm sitting upstairs on my Wii hoping this actually downloads (yes, I'm having problems too).

and WTF, I was totally playing with the Swedish Chef (from the Muppets) in Test Drive... I love you XBL. <3

1%

i had the same problem so i started downloading other stuff. While i was downloading Overlord video I tried downloading Turning point again. it went through

I think it went through for me when i put it on download pending.

Wow. The Club demo did it for me. Graphics are nice and the controls feel solid. I had a lot of fun seeing how I could best my score in the two levels. I can see myself playing it for a while.
Rental ---> will-buy.

Turning point mentions an OFLC rating of R18.. but we don't have an R18 rating [for video games] :lol

The game DID get rated on the OFLC as an M game though.

Turning Point has to be one of the worst games I've played this gen. Sure it's just a demo, but unless the full version is atleast million times better this is one of the worst 360 games yet

Bioshock + WW2 + 200 metric tonnes of feces = this

Wow, Turning Point is really bad. I thought the premise was pretty cool and had hoped that the delay would result in a respectable FPS, but dear God the demo is a total mess. The graphics are bad, the animation is bad, and the controls are sluggish and unresponsive.

From the very start, you can tell they're trying to wow you with this large-scale set-piece of the Nazi invasion of New York with tons of explosions and debris, but all it does is showcase how painfully lacking the game is from a technical standpoint. The city looks utterly flat and primitive, with no sense believable of scale or atmosphere. There are a lot of explosions going off, but there's also a lot of flicker and popping as the game struggles to decide which sprites are in front and which are behind.

Character movement is stiff and wonky, and your character's arms and hands feel completely detached. There's absolutely no feeling that those limbs are connected to your body in any way - reload animations look totally ridiculous as a result.

I also noticed that the game has suffered a visual downgrade from the last time I saw it. Gamespot had a stage demo of it during last year's E3, and the parachutes of the troopers had self-shadowing of the suspension lines on the fabric, which are gone now.

Throw in some attempts at getting an emotional response that are just too ham-fisted and poorly presented to come across as anything but unintentionally funny, and you've got a demo that never should have been released. Honestly, this one is as bad as Hour of Victory.
