Xbox 360 Live help needed - can't connect sometimes

I'm using SBC Yahoo DSL and a direct connection to get onto Live (direct line between 360 and modem). Usually, when I turn on my 360, it connects me to Live automatically without any problems. However, occasionally (last night and this morning), it doesn't connect me. So, at this point, I select to "Test Xbox Live Connection," and what ends up happening is that it always fails at the "IP Address" option.

I did find a simple fix to this and what I do is to turn off the 360. At this point, I take the ethernet cable from the 360 and insert it into my pc and get online. After I get online (to make sure that there isn't a problem with my dsl connection), I then plug the ethernet cable back into my 360, power up my 360, and voila, it automatically connects me to Live without a hitch.

Anyone know what's going on here? Thanks in advance.

If your 360 and PC both use an ethernet cord that you swap out to get online it's probably your modem not refreshing.

Unplug your modem powercord for about 15 seconds, then plug the power back in before booting up the device you want recognised.

You have to do this everytime unless you buy a router/switch/hub, just go buy a wireless linksys router thats compatable with Live.

like DJ Sl4m said. I have realised that some dsl is just crap, my connection I pretty much reboot once or twice a day because all of a sudden for no reason the network just stops working, I think its something to do with another computer on the network somewhere actually.
