This blog will surely be running at a loss as it will cost more to run it than the sales boost it may potentially bring in.

What a commendable act by Microsoft!

I'm kinda bummed that Microsoft hasn't put more effort into Japan this time. I mean, where that market is headed I can see why they wouldn't, but still.

Before the Xbox One came out, and there was all this talk about Microsoft forming new studios, wasn't there a Japanese studio--I think based in Osaka--that was mentioned? Did nothing come of that?

There's clearly more issues with Xbox One in Japan than lack of sales:

They should at least bring the majority of western games to the platform. Because owners of Xbox One in Japan most likely didn't buy the console for it's Japanese game library.

I'm honestly baffled as to what XBO owners in Japan *did* buy the system for.

What's the reason for games being region exclusives anyway? Publishing deals?

Is Sony publishing it in Japan? They did the same with Destiny I think.

Since SE is rejuvenating them self with all these JRPGS. MS and SE both own Last Remnant IP, MS should send some money their way to make another. It has a good battle system, but was a grind fest

I feel like the se push is their last hurrah for console gaming there. I think it's going to culminate with dq 11 for ps4.

Cool, they can announce when Raiden V totally bombs. Ugh. Kind of glad they mostly stopped buying exclusives to send to their dooms.

Probably due to the fact that the X1 versions of multiplatform games in Japan struggle to sell more than 1000-2000 copies, so for a lot of publishers, it's doubtful that they would have made any money.

Like say last week's sales of DMC4 SE. The PS4 version did around 35K, but the X1 version wasn't even charted and the lowest charted position was at 1.8k.

First Kamiya, then Inafune now Sakaguchi!
I personally hope not for the latter. Maybe he will make his next game on a console that people will buy. Doubtful that he would be going hard on mobile if his last two AAA sold as they did. Of course this is partly selfish on my part as I'm a PS4 owner and it's due to bias. But I also think it's not smart from a business POV, unless Sakaguchi still doesn't want to work with Sony (though I heard he had problems with Kaz). So, I hope you are wrong and it's multiplatform jRPG if he ends up making one. :P

You have to give props to MS for trying, but I would have honestly pulled out in many aspects a long time ago. Shocking that they're trying with the sales they make, who knows how much money is bleeding over there.

nanni?

It did. E3 week was last week and we already have the numbers. Xbox One sales more than doubled from pre E3 week of 100 to 201 last week.
word?

I don't see anything helping Xbox in Japan, but I'd love it if it got more traction so we'd see more Japanese games for it.
It made me so happy to hear "2 games in particular are important to me, Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey..." from Phil Spencer when talking about future backwards compatibility and issues with multi-disc games, but I doubt it really means anything.

I want another Lost Odyssey waahaahaa T_T

Lost Odyssey won't be compatible with Xbox One?

Man, that really sucks. :(

Sorry I made you think that, but he says they're working on a way to get multidisc games to work, and it's important to him to get those two games working, from what I remember. It's just a little more complex.

let me get a link to the interview, it's only like 8 minutes or something. Hold on.

it's not the video, click on the link below the video
oh, it's 20 minutes long, sorry

Seeing as how Microsoft announced a platinum partnership with Square Enix and NVidia in Japan awhile back, I hope it results in selling Xbox's.

Xbox on Windows Mobile and W10 would probably be more attractive to Japanese consumers anyway.

Lost Odyssey is the only Xbox 360 game I care about playing, but even that isn't enough to consider buying an Xbox One for. :P None of the Xbox One games interest me.

yeah, it's a great game. I'd actually love to see a remaster to lessen the load times, and having it uprezzed and on one disc would be fantastic. Buying an Xbox One for Lost Odyssey back compat does seem a little foolish, so I'm with you there, as it wouldn't play any better or load any faster than it would on a 360.

need to go back on topic rising
I wonder if they're going to do a JRPG push like they did on the 360 with BD, LO, and Tales of Vesperia (I can't remember if Eternal Sonata was during that time, and there's another I think I'm forgetting). Has Microsoft written off Japan so they wouldn't try that again? I mean, that didn't really help them last time, did it?
