Xbox Live Creators Program Announced (aka Xbox Live Indie Games)

This seems like a good announcement to me.

If you want your game on the Xbox One you can easily do it but if you want the added features like achievements you need to go through ID@Xbox.

That's as long as ID@Xbox is still a self publishing platform and doesn't require devs giving up any specific rights/IP to get it on there.
 
No concept approval is great but putting this games in their own box with restricted access to the platform is a bummer.

They could have their id@xbox curated program and this coexist without denying these games access to core platform features.

Also, can you use the X1 as a dev kit already? I loved that idea back then.
You can, but currently it's focused for apps only with games being forced to launch through id@xbox.

With that announcement they are now working to get retail box as a devkit for games too, so the uwp games have more system resources, but that still seems to be a bit further ahead.
