Xbox Live Gold is $1 for 1 month

I used a credit card on Xbox for the first time a few weeks ago to add 500 points and I was able to remove it right after -- there's no sign of it anywhere. They fixed it a while back.

Adding points works differently. Associating a card with xbox live locks it in and can't be removed without adding another card.

Look, this is me 5 minutes ago trying to remove my old card:

After clicking remove I get that error message.

I go to billing.microsoft and attempt to change the payment method.

You can't remove that card without adding another one. Or, ring up microsoft and hope for the best.

Yeah, some of these posts are crazy and totally inaccurate. I recently just disabled auto renewal for a month and then got gold again, no problem.
1. This thread is from June 2009.
2. Check Mar's post; above mine.

Edit: Whoops, didn't see the post dates either. Thanks fernoca.
No problem.. :lol
Though, most of the problem comes when you're trying to delete your (only) credit card tied to the account; not changing the auto-renewal option.

If you only had one card attached to it, and let's say you no longer have one..assuming that you decided to no longer have credit cards at all, you can't do it online. Unless you add another card, and then delete the previous one.

That leaves the option to call customer service, they do remove the (only) card..but...eeww..that means talking to people.. *shrugs*.. :p

I always wondered of you could sell a gamertag. Ive had quite a few offers for mine.

You can recover it on another console by entering your email and password, right? So you can just sell it by passing those on. It's the same way as the Chinese and Indian achievement-farming services work, amusingly.

It's funny, while it was a huge bitch to get out of Gold rebilling once you put your card in, the process is eerily similar to FFXI until -Square- fixed their processes. If you call and say you want to cancel you're out forever, if you call and say you want to deactivate you're (after one last hard sell) cool.

Nothing wrong with talking to people. It's the people you are talking to that is the issue. Microsoft's support is horrible. I've had occasions where I couldn't understand a word the person on the phone was saying. It mystifies me why these companies use foreign phone support. I can only imagine the losses they make on customers evens out over the cheap cost of the foreign labour.

The deal is available directly through Xbox Live on the dashboard for Silver members only.

To turn off auto-renewal, call up Xbox Live CS (1-800-469-9269) and tell them that you don't want to auto-renew after the one month is up.
Or you simply can go to marketplace at xbox.com and turn off the auto-renewal option.
