I don’t understand how the marketing department is allowed to do this. And there is no consistency. How can they go from the Starfield controller, which is pure awesomeness, to this abomination?

I think it goes well with xbox overall wacky sense of humour (just check their official twitter accounts). I don't think they take it seriously themselves and don't expect it to sell well, but it gets people talking.
