Xbox One Elite Controller impressions

I agree with him. I had 2 shitty Xbox one controllers. Squeaked, got loose at the seams, and the analogs got clunky and grindy. My lunar white so far solved the squeak and loose part, but now my left analog makes a spring noise when I move it.
I've had a similar experience with the redesigned Xbox One controllers, specifically the Lunar Whites. I went through a comical amount of exchanges. I've barely had any issue with Microsoft controllers before this One redesign.

I want to see a meticulous review of the Elite that gauge a sample of controllers for how consistent good build quality is (uniform inputs, even seams/body). I'd replace the Lunar White I settled on with the Elite eventually if someone scrupulous gives the shipment their approval. Reviews that focus on reporting known features or bring up the tired battery argument aren't terribly helpful to me.

Wat?

Every single Xbox controller I've owned since 2001 still functions fine.

That's across 15 controllers. 1 OG Xbox controller, 4 OG S controllers, 6 360 controllers (2 PC), and 3 X1 controllers. I've never heard of them having QC problems.

Come again?

And every single Xbox 360 controller I owned either had a dpad that wouldn't register directions correctly and/or developed analog drift on the left stick. The Xbox One controller has even more egregious problems with the sticks.

They redesigned the original dpad on the 360 controller for a reason - it sucked. And it broke easily. Hell, it was so shitty that many of them came broken or faulty right out of the box.

The price is obnoxious. There is no justification for that.

Wait until you hold the controller.

Pick one up for a minute, feel the comfort and quality. Flip it around, check out the features, toggle the hair trigger, swap the d-pad, notice the steel analogs, notice the perfect weighted feel of the controller, change out the analogs, get a feel for the buttons... Now put it down really fast and pick up a PS4 controller. Quickly throw it at a wall.. You'll understand.

It feels so right. Do I wish it was cheaper? I wish it was free. But there is an actual quality material upgrade here. The cosmetic appeal, while relevant, takes a back seat here and that is a rarity.

The only problem I had with a xbox controller is that the stick started drifting north on my midnight forces xbox one controller.

They have held up for me at least, I have owned quite a few xbox controllers.

Elite controller for Win10/PC gaming +1, sorry Steam controller.

I thought about that, but it only will 'beat' the steam controller in games that require gamepad support for people that enjoy the sticks over the touchpad. The reason being that you can only rebind that back grip buttons to the gamepad buttons. You can't do mouse/keyboard emulation. So you aren't getting extra buttons, you are just hitting the ones already on the controller with a different finger.

Would still like to own one, but it is more limited than what the steam controller can do.

This is the question I have now. Eneloop or Eneloop Pro?

Pro are more for cameras, they have longer battery life but less charges to them. It's up to you, but you will not be able to recharge the pro's as many times as the regulars.

So how deep does the companion app the Elite comes with go? I know it lets you remap buttons and I think analog sensitivity. So could it be updated to let you control the mouse on Win 10?

False. I believe it was mentioned in an MS video that these could be bound to whatever you want. They are additional buttons on PC.

Give me a choice by throwing one of them in with the controller for free, and letting me buy the other if I prefer it. Having both as additional purchase options is stupid. The point is I shouldn't have to spend additional money for a rechargeable controller, especially if it costs $150...

The point is they give you batteries with every single controller and then treat you like a big boy and let you decide what to do with it going further. Infinitely better than giving me a battery with a 6 hour lifespan that forces me to either buy a brand new controller I dont want just to be able to continue to game or force me to buy a long ass USB charging cable and tether myself to my console just to play. I'll take choice.

Its a controller aimed at a very different market to the regular one, that group is prepared to pay a premium for a better controller, its not intended to be the sort of controller you buy 2/3/4 of them to go with your system and play local co-op with

Scuf (who they are partnered with on it) charge similar/larger amounts for their controllers too https://eu.scufgaming.com/store/

Considering how it appears to be selling it seems the price they picked is fine.

Major did an unboxing and shared a secret. Double tap the bind button to turn off and on the paddles. Sorry, no screen shots.

From the Amazon questions:

I heard this elite controller emits pheromones that send out subconscious scent signals to illicit sexual responses from females. Is this true?

and the top response:

I was one of the lucky few to receive an alpha release of the Xbox One Elite controller last month. Immediately upon signing for it I tore the box open. I then received a knock on the door and it was my neighbor's wife. Vanessa and I have never gotten along, but this time she was all smiles. She said, "I just got off of my Playboy shoot and I just want to say that I'm sorry for being such a b#@$h to you over the past couple of years, but I need you now." I was obligated to make "the love" to her.
So the answer is an astounding "YES"!
The pheromones are worth the $150 alone!

Damn I was under the impression that this controller came with a wireless usb adapter for PC. I don't know how I got that idea in my head but I'm sad that it doesn't.

How long do eneloops typically last for curiosity sake?

I'd say a solid ~50 hours of play time on two eneloops before I toss them in the charger (Amazon and reddit reviews claim 60 hours, but I'd say if you have a game w/ a lot of rumble, it'll be less). I don't play as much these days, so maybe once a month I swap the batteries in the controller for the batteries in the charger. The charging cradle is next to my recliner so it's more convenient for me to swap the pair in there. I always have 4 in the charger and 2 in the controller. I also use eneloops for my wireless keyboard/mouse and remote controls, so I have a few boxes.

6 to 7 hours from my experience.

Wait... 6 - 7 hours... Wut? Even the base eneloops should get 30 hours, and the higher capacity ones... 2500mah or whatever, should be in the 40 - 50 range.

*edit*

NeoGaf battery review thread reports ~40 hours generally with the base eneloops.

First Xbox One Elite Controller accessories announced
Eh...it's kinda cool, I guess. oh, they just got it from Major Nelson's blog.

Any independent video impressions from YouTube reviewers? Would love an actual hands on from someone who has used a Scuff controller and compare.

If Ms just had bundled this controller instead of the useless Kinetic at launch things would be different.

I hope they bundle a proc controller with xbone plus a game in the future.
