Xbox One: Ready to Start.....but not really

I never quite grasped this "disconnect from the internet" workaround.

Wouldn't the time to install the disc offline + then later downloading and install the latest patch take the same amount of time cumulatively as installing from disc while online + installing the patch at the same time?

So yesterday I got home from work and was all excited to fire up Halo 5 and try the new update. Except it didn't even ask about installing the update until I actually went to play Halo 5.

What the hell? Like isn't this the big reason to fuckin' have it turned to "instant-on" in the first place? Is there something I have to enable first before it'll automatically download updates while it's asleep?

The update only happened late yesterday, so you may have turned on as it had just gone live.

For me it seems to be random, sometimes it works fine other times it doesn't.

It does cumulatively, but you cannot play the game at all whilst it is doing an update.

MCC took about 15 hours to install on mine. This was with it direct wired to my router.

In contrast, it took about 30 mins to install the new AC on my PS4.

I have very fast internet.

Hm, I guess make sure "Automatically download updates and purchases" is checked off in the Power Mode & Startup settings menu? I don't think it'll download updates for disc installed games without the disc in the drive. Not sure about that, though.
