Xbox One Won't Install Disc Games

So this morning my copy of Overwatch arrived early. I tried installing it and straight away the Xbox said installation stopped. Nothing I can do will budge it - I've tried removing the external (yes I have enough space on both), full restarts, cancelling retrying etc.

But now I've tried a different game and that won't install either - same thing, installation stopped straight away.

Any ideas Gaf?

Is there an update?
If so try refusing the update until the disc is installed then download the update.

Doesn't even ask for an update. I thought that was it but my housemate also got overwatch and he's installing and updating as we speak.

I've tried with gears ultimate which I had installed previously, it now won't install - does the exact same thing.

When you go to the queue under my games and apps what is the status. Does it just say installation stopped?

Yep. Tried cancelling / 'uninstalling' then trying again. Same thing happens.

Only one I can think of is try installing offline?
Turn console into offline mode and try if that doesn't work, unplug cable/disconnect wifi and try.

Simplest and most likely explanation: Your disc drive is broken. Happenend on my first Xbox One as well all of a sudden.

What were the symptoms of that? Disc based games still play just it doesn't seem to want to install. It also still spins it up just fine as I can hear the drive spinning.

Mmh, good point - if all that is still working without emitting any suspicious noises (I recall really loud screeching when some discs were inserted), a complete reboot abfter powering off might do the trick.

If you can, uninstall a different game you have on disc still and try to install it again. If you don't have the same issue it may be a faulty disc.

Edit
Scrap that maybe it's wise to try full hard reboots before uninstalling a disc.

That's what made me realise this was more than just overwatch. I uninstalled Gears Ultimate then tried to install again - same issue.

Did you try fully unplugging the console from the wall and then restarting? This has helped me with issues that hard resets haven't fixed for whatever reason.

Maybe also reboot your modem/router?

Yeah doesn't seem to be a hardware fail on the disc drive. Plays blurays just fine too, just tested that.

Full console reset solved it!!

God knows what went wrong. I chose the option to keep all my games and apps so just settings profiles etc were deleted. Hope this helps someone in the future.
