Xbox One X display units are in Microsoft stores now

I know it's the superior machine, but the One X looks like the cheaper revison of the One S. The One S has a Braun-esque look to it. The two-tone texture on the One S looks very smart (and I'm not even a fan of white hardware). The One X, on the other hand, looks like an unfinished block of plastic; it's got a lot in common with Sony's recent PS4 revisions: just bland, uninspired blocks of black plastic.

I won't even consider the thing until I see that fucker running and am able to judge the fan noise. The S was offensively loud.

My S is almost completely silent. The only way I can hear any noise from it is when I put my ear a couple inches from it and even then it is barely audible.

Mine gets pretty noisey in the Australian summer. I should have kept my original VCR X1 - cool and quiet as a cucumber.

I passed the MS store today at the mall and saw it sitting there but didn't go up to it. I'll check it out in a few days.

They're really going balls deep with this "world's most powerful console" label. Doesn't every console generation have a "world's most powerful console?"

It's like being the world's oldest person. It may be true, but you sure don't hold onto that title for very long.

Yeah, what kind of monsters would do such thing?

This has to be quoted more.

Nice one, EvB.

It looks like someone sand-blasted a PS2.

Was about to type this lol

I'm a sucker for new stuff so I'll probably grab one whenever I get a 4k TV set. Will probably end up fulfilling Microsoft's original vision in my entertainment center as the "one" device I use. I can even make use of the HDMI pass through. It won't get used as often for gaming since I have a Switch and a PC, but the fact that I can buy a single digital copy of something and get two copies is still enough to keep me in the ecosystem for first party games

I really like the look of it. I definitely agree that it needs to be quiet though, it'd be a huge shame if they've sacrificed that. How quiet the original Xbox One is remains a big reason why I still use mine every single day (for media stuff).

I like it, but at this price point (not saying what you are getting is bad for the price, I know the hardware is strong so don't burn me to the ground for this!) I wish they had considered bundling in the "elite" controller, it would just be an AWESOME value add to the 499$ sticker shock, could have persuaded some with that for sure!

Then again, I'm not really sure how much/if MS is taking a loss on x1x's sold.. so that would contribute to that further. Has it been said if there is an ugly power brick or if all of that is internal?

You want them to add a controller that sells on it's own for $149.99 and still be $499.99? You be crazy. If they had that much headroom, they could of just put it out for $399.99 and called it a day.

I kind of miss the holes from the s. They gave it some decoration. This feels kind of flat and devoid of personality in comparison. I can't say it's not a marvel in it's compactness though

Look very nice and understated. Will go and have a look tomorrow as I have a MS store 5 mins walk away.

I wonder when they'll have 4K videos of the games running on a screen in store.

This is my only fear. The XB1 is an amazing console simply because no matter the game I'm playing or movie I'm watching it's silent.

LMFAO!!!

So many hurt people bitching about MS saying those exact words, but not realizing that Sony has done the same exact thing.
To be fair, they did it selectively (and pretty quietly) with the pro. The whole marketing message for the X1X is "the most powerful console." This wasn't modesty on Sony's behalf - I think they wanted to keep the focus on the base PS4 for 2016/17. I'd expect to see marketing ramp up in general come the end of the year.

Really? My S and my Wife's S are whisper quiet. Even have a few friends that have a S and they are whisper quiet. I know there were some initial reports at launch of the fan rubbing/hitting part of the case that would make it louder,

Impressive looks like the size of 2 switches with docks, very small. I like it the S was already pretty compact

^My S is also quiet especially when I compare it to my ps4

I'm curious, has anyone seen the retail box in person yet?

I figure that they use the same physical box as the One S for cost saving, obviously just different styrofoam inside and graphics outside

Yeah, technically it seems impressive by making it so small but it doesn't do anything for me looks wise. I prefer the VCR Xbone design if I'm being honest

You're forgetting that the base PS4 (in the first pic) was objectively the most powerful console for three years.

No, I didn't, as any reader of gaming forums or comment sections can probably attest. It's impossible to not run into someone reminding us all that PS4 is the most powerful base console on the market. My post had nothing to do with this, though.

Some pre-production renders

It seems to be the same shape, that would be so smart

I appreciate that sorta detail, I love the whole MS hardware design process, the S was such a breath of fresh air.

The packaging on a Surface gets me hyped, its so classy, the S was a clear derivative of that. Dat Panos influence.

Your post quoted a pic of the PS4 and the PS4 Pro. Didn't known that you were limiting your comment to the Pro. :)
