Just like the Cheap megaton 4k uhd player coming out in August (xbox one s)

They will have the scorpio at a megaton price release too.

Starting at $399

$399 - 500g
$349 - 1tb
$499 - 2tb

Might have digital bundles for titles taking advantage of the Scorpio during Holiday season. People want to see why they should upgrade and i'm guessing they show that. Granted those titles probably released prior to 2017, but they will "showcase" how the scorpio will be a premium version for anyone intersted in owning the Xbox library of games.

Yeah, I remember before Scorpio got announced many thought it would be impossible for MS to manage without the eSRAM. Not just a thought. It was like FACT when reading all the comments. Like 1+1

I think they will announce it at 499.

The expectations are being set up for the Xbox One Scorpio to be a "premium device", so people are expecting a very expensive console. This is deliberate ... of course Microsoft wants to give the impression that their new product will be very valuable.

The reality is in 18 months it will be released at $399. Both Sony and Microsoft have already had the chance to experience the result of a $500 or $600 sale price for a console.

It's the Oculus strategy. Just keep repeating that it'll be expensive over and over and over again. After that, you reveal it for 699$ and people will think it's a steal all of a sudden, while a year ago they would have laughed you out of the room.

It works.

Yeah the Xbox S shows how they'll probably price this thing. Different options for storage will allow them to have a base version. Plus probably no Kinect in the box will allow them to go a bit lower.

I think people expecting silly prices for some reason, are going to be disappointed.

MS has a year to sell the messaging on this thing. We've already seen the buzzwords 4k, premium, high end. all those words probably repeated over and over, then they release at a unexpected price and people say that's it's bargain.

Phil Spencer already talks about "premium price" for the Scorpio, so I think it will be at least $499.

Think it will be $ 599 at least, they are going with that huge bus which you only really see on Titan type cards, I doubt thats going to be cheap along with a big ass 14 nm silicon.

MS of course can sell for what they want, they have enough cash, so if its below $ 599 its because of MS funding it like sony / ps3

Xbox One S is $299 and will probably be $199 when Scorpio comes out in Fall 2017. $399 is a premium price compared to the rest of the One family

They also said that the premium comes from needing a 4k TV and VR.

Even if it's powerful I doubt they would try to launch another console at higher than 400 so soon.

Huh? oculus did the exact opposite

Claimed it would be 300-350 for years then when they announced the price they became the butt end of a joke

If they release it in November ... don't they still have a little bit of time in R&D before they go into production/assembly?

As in the picture they showed in the trailer could definetly be different than what they actually ship.

What exactly do we know about the RAM so far?

Based on the look of the motherboard shot we saw, it's looking like it might have a bare minimum of 12GB of ram onboard, which would be fantastic.

That aside, Microsoft continues to stress that this will be a "more premium" product that will have a more premium price, so I'm really starting to wonder if they will actually end up launching this thing at a higher price than many think. I don't see $599 happening for some reason. So, $500 for the base price seems reasonable. Although, I wouldn't mind seeing a $450 base price for this thing. That would be perfect.

I'm thinking... 449. X1S at 249, 200 dollar price gap keeps Scorpio feeling premium (and makes X1S feel like a steal) but cheap enough so as to avoid scaring off the general population. Becomes a "how much power do I think I need" question rather than a "how much money do I want to spend" one, which is what you want to shoot for. When you're selling to people, reminding them of their wallet is generally the last thing you want to do unless you're dealing purely in low-cost alternatives.

If I'm not mistaken all the leaks still suggest NEO is coming out either this fall or next spring. If this is the case, my guess would be that Microsoft will wait and see what Sony charges for it and how it is received before putting the final price tag on Scorpio.

Having said that, I'm sure they already have a number in mind and I wouldn't put it past MS to see Neo at, say $399 and then take the approach that Scorpio is "betterr" and make their $499. Then again, it seems that Phil doesn't like "losing" to Sony so he may also try to direct the team to price match Neo.

But I really do think that we won't see a price tag on Scorpio until we know what Sony does with Neo.

I think people are making a mistake if they think MS will price this in order to seek volume sales. At launch, this console will serve two purposes,1) to make the Xb1S look even more attractive to the price concious and 2) to tout being first to market with a 4K gaming console.

As such, it will be priced like any other penis envy-inducing big ticket item. Premium ($500)
The good new is, Xbox 2 will be right around the corner (2019), the Scorpio will be $200+ bucks cheaper, and it will be the low end way to play Xbox 2 games.

If Neo launches at $399 this year, that means it can be $349 by late 2017, maybe even $299 for Black Friday. This alone means Microsoft cannot launch at more than $399. Unless they stopped wanting to compete with Sony completely, but why would they? Don't they want a good adoption rate so in turn they sell lots of Call of Duty and FIFA and Madden on it? If they make it so that people won't adopt it, then third-party will probably drop support for it as they did with Nintendo, in which case it's over for the Xbox console business.
There is no way this thing launches at more than $399.

I belive it will be atleast 499, this is there premium Xbox for the hardcores, the best for the best.
They will want to see a profit from each unit.

A $399 Scorpio will sell like hotcakes.

Drop XB1S @ $199 and there you have it... 2 different tiers.

After listening to Phil Spencer on the day 2 podcast from Giant Bomb, I think what Microsoft is doing really makes sense. I really like his vision for gaming on Microsoft platforms. I just hope he can stay in his role for a long while (and find success) so his plans can really stick within the organization. I've got a powerful PC, but I'll definitely consider getting a Scorpio depending on price and content availability. Gotta vote with my wallet.

The community changes he talked about for Xbox Live sounded really intriguing, too.

I think this is probably the sleeper hit in my opinion. The Arena tournament stuff is going to get the hardcore community. I think people may have overlooked it but it really has the potential to put Xbox as the default platform for a lot of tournaments.

As others have said, I can totally see the price gap between Xbox One S and traditional Xbox One being used to showcase Scorpio's more premium price. I somehow see it coming in at $450 and up.

Another way to look at things is Microsoft will probably just make sure Scorpio is $150-200 ($200 the more likely of the two) more expensive than the Xbox One S. So if Xbox One S remains at $299, Scorpio will release starting at a price of $450 or $499 minimum. Don't really think they mind being just $100 more as compared to their most expensive S model, which is $399 for a 2TB hard drive Xbox One S.

Yea, a lot of people are sleeping on this, but tournaments was a huge, huge announcement to be able to make. Imagine me being able to setup my very own Fifa World Cup Tournaments across my Xbox Live friends list? This is some very powerful stuff we're talking about. And imagine Microsoft including support for a stat based system with tournament rewards for each game and overall tournament? Like for Fifa they can show you the gamertag with other game specific information to showcase who scored the most goals all tournament, or in other kinds of games it can be most kills. Or showcase who had by far the best k:d ratio. The potential is through the roof if they do this thing right.

5.8 teraflop card with 8GB of GDDR5 is $229 THIS year, probably no more than $150 when Scorpio hits.

If Scorpio is more than $399, it won't be because of the flops.

I'm starting to lean towards the 399 point, myself. 349, maybe. It just can't be very much more than the neo when it comes out. 499 would be a battle.

All of that will be done by compilation profiles for each device. One codebase, compile for different platforms and just cater for the needs of each functionally.

How they manage eSRAM is beyond me. Considering they managed to emulate PowerPC on 8 Jaguar cores, I don't put anything past them.
That's why I'm not worried.

I just think that until you see Microsoft making real commitments toward growing first party development, you should be weary of the aims of Scorpio.

Because it does sound like they want third parties to do their work for them again, like the latter days of the 360.

That said, any talk of Microsoft exiting the console race is silly. They are trying to expand the console model on to the PC if anything.

Yea, I agree with this. I think it will bring a lot of tournaments to happen, even locally. I know with fighting games it's going to be crazy. EA is said to be talking about this feature later...I can imagine all of their sports titles supporting it.

What would be a good launch game for this? Halo 6? FM7?

Actually those two don't sound too bad.

Forza 7 is an absolute lock. I will eat your hat if it isn't there.
Halo could be there in some form but I doubt it's Halo 6.
Rare is rumored to have 2 additional games in development besides Sea of Thieves. I believe one will be a 'launch' title for Scorpio. Hoping for Banjo or Perfect Dark but not getting my hopes up for that.

The Banjo game they could make with 6TF of power.

Oh Neptune.

Seems there are predictions all over the place for the price.

They need to sell this thing cheap. At a loss, get xboxes in homes. Get people on Live, buying stuff, etc

They need to regain market share and mind share.

$399 or bust

But that's what the XBox One S is for. They serve two different purposes... Scorpio is not a new generation.

Anyone in here thinking it'll be more expensive than 399 for base model...

This is for all intents and purposes the followup to Xbox One.

There's absolutely no fucking way they'll launch at more than 399 again.

Zero percent chance.

6TF will be perfectly doable at that price point come Holiday 2017.

Not a new generation, so "again" doesn't apply here.

Both Sony and Microsoft have already had the chance to experience the result of a $500 or $600 sale price for a console.

Yet again, not the same situation. This is not a generational launch.

Yup, at absolute minimum. In nobody's mind is $399 a "premium price."
