If you want to buy a high-end rig to play Microsoft exclusives, then do it. Microsoft is more than happy for you to buy the games on the Windows 10 Store and play there.

i have a question i would like to ask and its somehow a serious a question and not a troll post at all.

by the time this new Xbox comes out, the 1080 gtx should be cheap. from my understanding, the GTX 1080 and the 1070 are still way more powerful than this.

assuming the xbox scorpio is around 450$. and all the xbox games are coming to pc. why would someone buy the new xbox one and not buy a video card like the new GTX ?

I am no longer seeing any value on the xbox as a console. don't get me wrong i love MS games like forza halo etc. but if I get the option, why would i buy them on Xbox when i can have them on PC with probably better graphics ?

is it to give gamers an ( option ) to buy the games on whatever format they like to buy ( PC, Xbox, probably one day future TVs etc ) ?

I am really just considering selling my xbox console with all the games i have and just buy the games i want on PC ( i already have Killer Instinct )
There are still a bunch of console games that don't come to PC. And the Xbox is still going to be cheaper than most gaming PC's. And the fact is, most game players are not PC players. Consoles are easier to sell to the mass market. PC's have only recently started to see growth again after a few years of market share loss.

I want to play exclusives on a high-end console that aren't held back by archaic hardware.

Assuming you were quoting me, then yeah like I said in my post as a hard core gamer i have nothing against any company that produce good games. I am just no longer seeing the value of a console for me personally because i do play on PC from time to time.

i will not have to buy a high end rig to play MS games. i already have an I7 processor, 16Gig of Ram and an SSD for hard drive. with 290x and soon to be changed. but the 1070 with the same price as a PS4 now, is a really way good value to pass since even the newer gen consoles that probably around 400 to 450$ are not as powerful as 1070 which is already released this year. let alone whatever comes from AMD or Nvidia next year

Also, i am sorry in advance about the lack of info. maybe the Scorpio is more powerful than a 1070. i was just having an educated guess.

Yes you are right these are valid about if someone doesn't have a gaming desktop since i5 2k series or a laptop, then yeah a PC gaming from zero is more expensive than a console. but I was talking about a personal level.

I want to see 1080p/30fps exclusive games that look like CGI. And 6TF can do it.

I only want to see 30fps for games that are targeting 4K. I would much rather have every game run at 1080p/60fps. I want 60fps to finally be the standard on consoles, and the scorpio can definitely do it.

With 6TF you would have some pretty impressive visuals at 1080p 60fps. It would be like Ultra settings on PC @ 1080p right now.

My fear is that we just get regular xbone games rendered at 4K and 30fps. I doubt third party devs will opt for this though over cranking up visuals @ 1080p.

I guess my question is, why doesn't MS want to keep players buying their hardware? On their hardware, they make money on every game sold, even the 3rd parties right?

If they let players just continue on their PC's, they'll only make money on the 1st party games won't they? Everyone will just buy everything on Steam unless there is an exclusive they want to play through the Windows store.

So they are losing hardware sales, software sales, ecosystem, and gamer mindshare.

Just sounds like a blunder to me.

They're trying to create a "blue ocean." The competition with Sony in the console race is over, Xbox is now an ecosystem with micro-royalties on an over-arching gaming market.

No worries. I think for your situation you would be just fine going that route if you're ok with UWP. Since all their exclusives will be built around that, it might take a little more time for them to become acceptable as PC ports, though Forza Apex was a pretty solid step forward.

so is Killer Instinct. in fact KI runs on PC better than my xbox one maybe due to the FHD vs 720p . rise of the tomb raider i have it on steam lol. only have physical copy of quantum break and i want it on pc one day when it goes on sales.

Yes but 4k will not justify a $499-$599 price point for a mid-gen upgrade. There has to be the promise of something greater.

It does VR but my question to this is "Why?"...it's not what we are used to with "next-gen". It's just like buying a higher end graphics card. It's not going to change the games being made...just that you have higher fidelity. You don't "have" to buy it. I think it is fine (with Sony as well). I could see your point if it was "next-gen"...but it's not trying to be. It's just higher fidelity within the same generation as an option.

As a pc-exclusive gamer with a steam library >400 games, I imagine Phil isn't losing sleep over whether I will ever buy an xbox, but I'd say a big disappointment for me is that the Scorpio won't play xbone games better than a day 1 machine. It's so great revisiting old games that taxed my system when they were new (and I was on older gen video card). I've done this with games like Skyrim, GTA4, Bioshock Infinite, and a lot of other games from the PS3/360 era. With a 560ti and a spinny hard drive, they ran fine, often better than their console versions. Now, with a 970 and an SSD, they all run better than i've ever seen them. In a few years when I upgrade again, I'll enjoy GTAV, TW3, MGSV, Doom 2016, and others at 4K/60fps.

I did upgrade to Win10, create my first gamertag, and download the Forza game beta for free, so they got me there, but I probably won't buy much, especially at full price. The one exception would be if they ever port the MCC (with resolution/framerate options). I'd pay $100 to have all the Halo games on my PC.

Well console games usually are coded for one spec where as PC games are different typically. I guess we can see that going forward though, so this just seems like the beginning (for both Sony and MS).

I guess my question is, why doesn't MS want to keep players buying their hardware? On their hardware, they make money on every game sold, even the 3rd parties right?

People will continue on buying their hardware. Games coming to PC isn't going to stop that. The majority of best selling console games this gen have been titles that are on PC. Many console gamers will continue on seeing console exclusives as true exclusives.

If they let players just continue on their PC's, they'll only make money on the 1st party games won't they? Everyone will just buy everything on Steam unless there is an exclusive they want to play through the Windows store.

They'll hopefully make more money on 1st party titles in comparison to what they are making now since these titles will be available for more users to play. On top of this, no, not everyone will automatically buy everything via Steam. Not everyone's "friends IRL" buy third party titles (or play games period) on PC.

So they are losing hardware sales, software sales, ecosystem, and gamer mindshare.

Just sounds like a blunder to me.

Stats clearly show that many people aren't buying Xboxes for the exclusive titles so I don't see how they are losing significant hardware sales. Software sales should be better for 1st party titles since now they're on Xbox and PC. Ecosystem is becoming bigger since it's available on more than just console so I don't see how they are losing that either. Gamer mindshare? I'll somewhat agree with that when it comes to people who play on multiple platforms but stats in Xbox heavy territories show that this isn't a lot of people since most of the top selling console games are on PC anyway.

We should make teams:

Team $399 (I'm on this team)

Team $499

And

Team crazy

:p

I believe there will be a base model for $399 (has a 500GB HDD) and just like the Xbox One S will go up to $499. We will probably see a few price cuts to the Xbox One S before Scorpio releases leaving it at a base price $199 (and up to $299 for the 2TB model) just prior to Scorpio's release.

I can definitely see a $399 model with the bare minimum HDD space (500GB). Most people would gobble this up as long as you can continue using external HDD's.

Preferences, it doesn't really get anymore complicated than that. Everyone has a choice.

Do we really think that 500gb will be the base though? While the talk is that games will run on Xbox One, Xbox One S and Scorpio, there will be games that will have higher res textures that will be used only if you have a Scorpio and higher res textures take up space. I am thinking that a minimum Scorpio will be at the 1tb with a 2tb and possible a 4tb SSHD as the high end.

Personally, I am waiting with anticipation some of the other specs. Will it have higher bandwidth SATA instead of what the PS4/Xbox One has, what will the final RAM amount be and the type. Will it have the higher spec USB ports etc. Still a lot of things we don't know.

If it's at $399 , Titanfall 2 gets the 4k bump, and 4k monitors drop in price a little then i will be picking up the scorpio day 1.

Scorpio unveil

New lost odyssey game
Proper banjo
Viva piñata
Alan wake 2
Knights of the old republic 3, with a remake of the first two as a preorder bonus
Jade empire 2
Project Gotham racing 2017
Otogi 2

The audience would evaporate into hype.

And all available on pc as well. This new MS strategy renders their console obsolete....

The other factors for me would be cheating and online community.

I get the impression you're more likely to get a cheat free experience and find players to play with on console for third party titles. (first party should be cross play). Could be massively wrong of course.

Oh look. Another "nobody wants a plug and play box, PC for evar" post.

If I had the time I'd collate a dozen or so of these into a new thread so we could centralise the "why not everyone wants a pc" explanation since so many gaffers don't seem to get it.

it will give you a locked 1080 if they were built with dynamic res technology and framerates will be rock solid up to the cap.
