Xbox Scorpio Making "Amazing Progress," - Phil Spencer

thanks for the answers..

in regards to this:

isn't that a bit dangerous.. like the S is just a small bump up compared to the OG One. The Scorpio looks to be a monster compared to the OG Box. So couldn't that ruin a games performance..? or does microsoft rely on some background programming stuff, that makes games "scale" with better performance, like on PC?
Well regardless, Scorpio supported games are gonna do that anyway.. Obviously there's still the frame limits though (30 or 60) so it's not like you'll be playing at 120fps or something.

I'm also just assuming it will based on the XB1 S. They haven't said anything about frame rates in older games yet. The only performance increase they've said for older games is the dynamic res games, which says they won't be downclocking the console.

I wonder if the PS4 Pro, having been out a year, will be able to have an absolute fire sale when this comes out, to try and keep up with the momentum.

I expect that Scorpio price would be 500$ min. Spencer repeated numerous times that Scorpio is a premium device.

Lol. This. At least there's flack. ;)

You! What are you doing here? How in the whole world you ended here on GAF? Need to remember where i saw your nick.

ok.. just wondering. They did good work in regards to 360 BC .. so I thought they might implement something like that to make the older games perform good.

Probably the way they are currently doing it with 360 on XB1 stuff.

No way. As I understand they have to recompile each 360 game so it works in the XB1. I am pretty sure Scorpio will have BC directly from hardware, otherwise they would have to recompile every XB1 game again.

What is the deal with all the Xbox haters in this thread? I generally don't see much of this on this site.
Good one lol.

It looks interesting, but being Canadian the price here after the exchange will probably be crazy. My PC is very old at this point so I will probably lean towards that.

If they manage it for$450 ish than I am in board

A year is a long time, but I wish we knew more about what some developers with games releasing this fall are doing, in particular for service-based games and multiplayer games. It would make a difference in which platform to buy for now for games I hope to still be playing this time next year.

No need to be upset. I just think that this "news" / PR message two weeks before PS4 Pro hits the market isn't a coincidence. I for one am genuinely looking forward to Scorpio.

'News'? Take that up with Gamespot (and I agree with you on that) but Phil was just replying to some dude on Twitter, he didn't even .@ the reply so I don't think this was a covert operation to generate column inches.

They will probably drop the price a little, maybe $50, if they really need to but Sony still have a nice big sales lead and another 12 months of sales to go before the Scorpio is out.

So unless PS4 and PS4 Pro sells really poorly for the next 12 months, then I don't think Sony will do much as a reaction to Scorpio, as they will probably have a decent price advantage and that big sales lead still.

You want him to urge you to buy a Pro?

He is doing his job.

I think he's doing great at his job. He's constantly reminding people that this amazingly powerful machine is just around the corner. Sony did stuff very similar when 360 launched and PS3 was a year later, only they had all those bs renders for Killzone 2 and Motorstorm.

Nice one Phil, now just make sure dat Crackdown 3 is a beast and available at launch. Oh and get that Goldeneye Remaster sorted too!

I can happily tick over with teh PC and NX until then, but I'm in. This gen is finally starting to warm up!

I kind of hope they stop using the term "true 4K" because there will be inevitable backlash when a game isn't native 4K. They have been clear that 4K isn't mandatory and if developers wish to push less pixels at higher quality, they are free to do so but people will ignore that and latch onto true 4K. It's a stupid term as well.

I'm hoping they leave Halo 6 to bake until 2019.

I wouldn't mind that either but it's highly unlikely. I hope they drop the campaign down to 30fps on the XBOS while running at 60fps on Scorpio. There was already plenty of visual cutbacks in Halo 5 and I wonder how much more they can squeeze out of the XBO at 60fps.

By next year, the S will have dropped to $249.

I'd hope a $150 difference would be enough for MS to say Scorpio is the premium box. So $399.

That said, I can see them going for $449. Less than the disastrous $499 for the original Bone.

$399 is an insta-purchase for me. Get $100 trade-in on my current OG box, so a much better box for $299.

Between 399-499 and I'm beginning to reconsider. Anything over $500 would be a PR disaster. They can say it;s so premium it can cook my dinner and play games in 8k as much as tehy;d like, That would just be too much.

I expect that Scorpio price would be 500$ min. Spencer repeated numerous times that Scorpio is a premium device.

By the time it comes out the S will be $249( hell I expect it to be readily available for that price this black firday), so a $399-$449 price tag can still be 'premium' pricing. I would think MS has learned the lessons from 3 years ago that a $499 xbox isn't going to sell gangbusters, and Sony demonstrated 10 years ago that a $599 one won't either. So if the Scorpio gets to that price, it's probably the highest end model with the largest HDD(2TB). I expect an entry point of $399 with 500gb, $449 with 1TB, and $499 with 2TB.

Man some people are going to lose their god damn minds once Scorpio comes out and doesn't suck and is powerful and costs $400.

"B-b-b-but it was supposed to be a $500 piece of vapor ware!".

It will be fun too to see Scorpio win every single DF faceoff. Grassgate in RDR2 will be a sight to behold.

What does everyone think the price will be?

I think $599

It won't be $399. He keeps saying premium to start damage control on the price.

Is this really necessary? Come on.

You fanning the flames of console warz is a sight to behold already.

This article just makes it seem the kind of useless numbers given at E3 were pulled out of their ass. For some reason people have lots of faith in MS with the Scorpio despite showing nothing.

I'm hoping it's $400 for the base sku, and a $500 model that includes a bigger HD and an elite controller.

Also, how did this turn into a console warrior shit fest within the first 5 posts? Ya'll need to calm the hell down.

Best case scenario would be prices ranging from 399 to 499. Any higher and they risk alienating alot of consumers. Can't wait! Hope some new specifics can start surfacing soon.

It'll be $499. They shouldn't skimp on the Scorpio just to get to it to a more favorable $399. I suspect very, very slim margins even at $499.

That is what I am hoping for also. I rather spend extra 100 dollars and get things like 4 gigs more of ram, UHD player and possibly a better CPU. I think 12 gigs of ram would be huge and really set it apart from the Pro.

Guys I'm not a fanboy. I have always had PS and Xbox and always will.

But $399 is a pipe dream. They keep saying premium over and over and won't talk price because they are obviously taking a chance here.

Read carefully. It's all there.

They need to launch this thing with a big 3rd party exclusive. Something like Bloodborne.

No need for exclusives, the Stars aligned pretty well for scorpio. They get the Best console Version of Destiny 2 and RDR2 in their launch window, PS4 Pro biggest loss was the Destiny 2 delay.

They also said the Pro was premium over and over again, that means nothing.

Just realized we should be getting Forza 7 on this thing ...... that might be magical.

Buying Scorpio is really going to come down to cost vs my current gaming PC. I mean....if it's less than what I usually spend on a GPU ($600-$800) then why not? $450-$550 and I'm in (if it's really 6TF+-)
