Xbox Scorpio Making "Amazing Progress," - Phil Spencer

All Xbox One peripherals continue to work - it keeps the price down.

I have about 4 controllers now (including an Elite), last thing I need is another controller.

Yeah i can see Phil Spencer on a press conference: "We don't sell the Scorpio with controllers, cause everybody who wants this awesome beast, already has a XBone/s. Who needs controllers anyway, we have kine...."

Godspeed.

You don't sell a console without a controller. Madness.

Microsoft will charge an arm and a leg for higher storage options but the base will be 399-449.

I expect the Xbox One S to be 199-249 at some point next year.

I'm definitely behind the base model with no controller but better hardware for $399. No need for controller to be included if you don't need one.

I am assuming that MS gave PC target specs out to partners for development. It's wierd that nothing has leaked so far.

Based on the type of CPU, GPU and ram that is recommended for Scorpio development we can infer whether or not the console will have Zen or not.

Yeah, once that info is in dev hands, leaks can't be too far behind.

So you literally ignore the bit after where I said that I think it'll ship with a controller, and the context which was replying to someone saying "Why would they ship without a controller".

I was giving my view on the only reason that could happen. It's not going to happen though, obviously.

Microsoft becoming the Apple of gaming!

Or Nintendo. I just purchased a 3DS for the first time and it didn't come with a freaking AC adapter...

EDIT: Ah, you mean the storage options. Never mind. That is totally an Apple thing. Ridiculous.

The OG XB1 controller works on the S, doesn't mean they sell the S without a pad, though.

Imagine someone not so clued up going and buying the most affordable version of the console only to find out they've got no way of interacting with it...

Agree, again I was replying to someone saying why wouldn't it ship with a controller. I was speculating.

I was joking, obviously.

@Isurus

Yeah. But i hope you can switch the HDD by yourself like at the PS4/Pro. So you don't have to support MS pricing policy.

I can't fathom how anyone could think a game console could release without a controller packed in. I was already baffled by the rumors of no controller being included with the Xbox One S.

This, and they already have quite a few games that have been delayed to 2017 or later that they will prob release with Scorpio. No need for a halo game just yet.

-halo wars 2
-sea of thieves
-scalebound
-crackdown

will have a good laugh if they have ready at release Reach Remastered for both Scorpio and the Xbox one.
Not to mention a similar plan for performance bumps for some games like Sony has planned. It should be an interesting year of waiting 👍

Halo 3 would be remastered if anything since it's the 10 year anniversary. Reach, I'm not so sure about.

They won't do a $599 SKU, not worth the stigma that price point holds. Im starting to think it's gonna be a single SKU, $499 maybe with some kind of small SSD + normal hard disk storage method.

My understanding is that there won't be any Scorpio exclusive games. Developers will naturally focus on XB1 specs as that has the largest install base. Won't this undermine the quality we'll see on Scorpio, and indeed, the PS4 Pro?

In Scorpio's case maybe for the first year..the system is 5x as powerful (and depending on CPU maybe more) than Xbox One. With a power gap that wide I expect Scorpio to be the main platform by Fall of 2018.

Glad things are progressing on their new console. The update tho is 1000% a PR move for mindshare prior to the Pro launch. I still think them announcing the Scorpio 18 months early was a mistake on their part.

I think Microsoft will likely nail the transition to new gen games with Scorpio and it's successor. If the CPU is indeed an upgrade, the Scorpio will have good legs and be the cheap new gen Slim option when Sony goes with PS5, Microsoft has a cheap brute of a console and still a beast to follow that goes toe to toe or beyond PS5 and PS4 Pro just won't have the legs to straddle old gen and new gen so Sony are expensive PS5 only with new gen games.

I know that sounds like next gen platform but they'll cut off old consoles for primary development eventually.

It's no different from all previous generations. PCs has been the target then everything scaled down. Xbox One is a platform they scale for but doesn't effect the performance for the Scorpio. Scorpio will get the Ultra settings treatment with better assets and such. Example Forza 7 will have auto vista cars in gameplay while Xbox One will have the next high lod model for player cars.

Remember in game development all assets including textures are created at very high poly/resolution so basically the Scorpio will play games the way the devs originally wanted the game to look. It's all going to look amazing can't wait to see the reveal

Nope. I think the only Forza game announced at Geoff's show was Horizon 1. I may be wrong.

I bought xbone at launch for Forza 5, I would do the same for Forza 7.

Forza 7 with full VR.

Scorpio will have VR at launch. 100% guaranteed.

It will be an optional peripheral.

MS revealed their first dip into VR yesterday at their event. By the time Scorpio releases it will be ripe for compatibility.

Yeah, I get that it's optional. But still, PCVR launched with 13m pieces of compatible hardware out there. PSVR had in excess of 40m

This (theoretical) Scorpio VR would have 0 compatible pieces of hardware on day 1. Console players that want the Xbox VR experience on day 1 are going to be spending $800+ for the privilege. Just feels like a big ask.

So about these mid console refresh deals, should they be pushed like a traditional console launch. I'm really interested in the pro but the lack of any real substantial titles to go along with it at launch is a bit disappointing. Maybe they should have waited till febuaury to launch alongside Horizon.

The same goes for the Scorpio, I'll be picking it up after skipping the S and my launch Xbox one feeling long in the tooth, but I hope the console launches with software that takes advantage of the power.

Forza 7 would be my choice of Scorpio launch game.

Shit would look absolutely nuts.
They really gotta get in dynamic time of day and weather, even if the Xbox One version remains static.
I will be mad if they have all those resources and still no dynamic ToD/weather.

Take a look at pc - what do you think of the quality pc gamers get?

Scorpio will be the next "Xbox One Elite (premium) console". It'll be bundled with the current (or a revision) elite controler, will have a 1tb (or 2tb) SSHD and will be sold for 499€/$500.

my prediction

That would be a instant buy for me. I want a elite controller so if they include it with Scorpio for $500 that would be a steal

It shows the disconnect between the users here and the general public. Same for "I'd pay 600 for a high end console". These are genuine sentiments but are limited to the most enthusiastic gamers. A small number.

It's why MS getting gamers used to Play Anywhere has been very smart.

Xbox 1 and PC owners get the same games but one version obviously looks a lot better.

It better launch at $399 or lower to really compete. Otherwise, promises of better hardware nearly a year after the Pro with an expensive tag, won't do anything to help it. I really wonder about some of the multiplatform releases - will we have a situation where Scorpio patches for games that suffered with lower resolutions and framerates actually be better than the Pro from games that came out before launch? Or will it be mostly for newer games launching in 2017 and later? It's going to be an interesting time.

Then why are you in a scorpio thread shitting on Xbox when you clearly are not interested in it?

How do you come to the conclusion i'm not intrested in it? I can't exactly play it over the coming year can i, hence why i said i'm covered for the year.
It's not out for another year at least so I'm not going to cream myself over whats been revealed so far, ie nothing but numbers and waffle, like some people seem to be doing.

When actual hardware details are released, and i know what its actually capable of when it releases, i'll review Scorpio VS my next GPU upgrade, which would be in 2018 anyway as i don't like going longer than 2 years, and see which is more cost effective.

No way. That simple announcement undermined the existence of PS4 Pro and immediately put Scorpio in the same conversation without them showing shit. It was a brilliant move, IMO.
