That's how most/almost all people place their consoles, and that's exactly what I wouldn't call "functional" - it's literally 3x as tall as X1X, and almost twice as tall as the OG VHS... For most people who have their consoles placed inside a TV stance this thing simply won't fit no matter what, MS cut down the depth by half which doesn't change a thing, while doubled-trippled the height, at the same width.

At this point I'm really curious about the cooling system design, the whole thing reminds me of the can-like Mac Pro,but who knows.

Seems to be the same cooling idea as the trash can Mac Pro, which managed 400w with very low noise levels. I hope Sony finds a good solution as well. I don't want another jet engine like my PS4 pro. I almost only use the x because of that.. But all the cooling of the dev kit do not look two promising.. and I do but think that they will engineer two entirely different internal layouts for dev kit and retail..
 
Considering the form factor I think we will get close to 12 teraflops. Only a guess but yeah. I dont mind how tall/big a console is because its still way smaller then any midi PC tower. To me this is small enough. Cant wait to actually see the final specs.
 
I don't know why...but I feel like I would prefer if the design had a vent that was like a grill instead of the circles....am i just being picky at this point? I'm also slightly worried about how easily dust will get into the system when it's turned off. Obviously when it's on it will blow potential contaminants away, but still.
 
Because of the name i assume they will go PC route and release a new console every 2 years or something. And eventually go full PC entirely. Wouldn't be shocked if it runs windows 10 also.
Basically this is microsoft phasing out traditional consoles.

It's actually pretty smart naming on that front.

I just find it hilarious. A lot of console gamers have spent their time over the years on these forums deriding PC gaming, and yet the more advanced iterations of consoles and what console gaming is and is becoming... is essentially MORE LIKE PC's.

Makes me laugh.

I really hope this thing has a blazing system UI. The One X drags along like a corpse here... the last few patches certainly fixed a few slowdowns for me but it's still nowhere close to what I expect from a console.

Am I the only one who finds this design to be absolutely beautiful? Clean, simple and understated; it is a minimalist's dream! I freaking love it!

I love the name too. And the word 'Series' definitely indicates that there'll be more than one. The S Series might be a little smaller, and may come in a white version. Quote me on that!

I love it too actually. If the performance of the top model is on the same level as the PS5 or perhaps faster then it will sell well. Like you said this indicates its a series of multiple machines. There is still the potential of a slower machine to be launched allongside with the top model. I hope "lockheart" will be a thing at launch. If thats going to be the case we will have two xbox machines competing against one sony machine? Most people would probably just go for the lower price tag. Especially in the hollyday season.

I don't like the name and the console itself doesn't look very good. Its too tall so it might not fit to most TV stands. They should have just called it Xbox.

As far as "killing off the One X" think the X is just gonna become the new base Xbox One once Series X launches

I imagine same thing happens with Pro just becoming the PS4 once PS5 launches.

Yeah, I've been ready to spend 600 ever since SSDs and 10-12TF with actually competent CPUs started just getting speculated, let alone confirmed.

I'm hoping for 500 or less but expecting 600

They're using entertainment centers that aren't a good idea to put a hot console in.

It could look like a brick and called a turdbox and I would still get it day one. And I will probably just stick with one console this time around, because I'm too old to buy consoles so that I can play 5-6 games on them.
 
Pretty excited about everything. As long as Microsoft doesn't go off the rails like they did with the X1 announcement (which I don't think they will), I think I will be getting this at launch. Series X and PS5, damn, I am so looking forward to these two.

Hope Sony is able to pull off the all Playstation gen backwards compatibility like the Series X. Will be amazing to have two consoles this gen with that capability. So many classics.
 
I actually like the very simplistic design. It doesn't look like a toy. I also appreciate the size... there seems to be a 120mm or 140mm fan in there, which is a good thing.

I hope Sony will go the simplistic route as well.
 
Thank god i have a pc so i dont have to buy this thing.
The form factor in terms of aestetics is not a problem, i like bulky stuff, but my furniture are too small for this thing.

If ps5 is bulky like this i'm fucked.

Phil is saying it is quiet like the one x so I'm inclined to take him on his word on that since they delivered on that piece of hardware.
 
So they went Mac Pro Trash can design - I'm good for it. Looks like it's about the same size as my MP Trash Can... (maybe slightly taller?)
Also reminds me of Silverstone FT03 (?) case...

The thing is it's super unobstructive, minimal looking - so I'm good with it. Hopefully the led on top isn't going to emit so much light like a batman light thingie to the sky...

Previous console aren't any smaller. Just different form factor. PS4 Pro is super wide. XSX is as narrow as a controller and shorter than the Pro if stood up. I prefer the tower form factor over the VCR look.
