So I lost access to the email account attached to my primary gamertag. Changed my phone number since then too.

Got locked out because of two step verification. I'm now locked out of that gamertag until September 20th.

It's nearly impossible to get someone to talk to. Let alone someone that isn't some telemarketing idiot. Lost connection... impossible to get back thru because now all I get is "thanks for calling Xbox support. Goodbye."

Went thru an account recovery song and dance... to get an email saying that request is being ignored because of two step verification.

I even told the bitch that the fucking credit card I use to pay for gamespass is in my fucking hand.... because if they can't be useful to me and get my account I want to cancel gamespass... they can't do that either because they cannot confirm my identity?

I'm on my way to gamestop to sell this piece of shit. Trash company

Oh no, not again someone that wines because he/she did everything wrong that secures the account.
Every now and then there is a user that wines because he used a wrong name for the account and forgot it.

E.g. with the xbox live account it is really easy to secure it. Add multiple e-mail addresses, multiple phone numbers (like a mobile phone) etc. for authentication to your account. Than you can get your two factor code via any of those phone-numbers (even via voice) or e-mail address that you have registered.
It is really easy. If everything goes wrong, talk to the service and present your ID /driving license or however you can identify yourself in your country to the support. Then they can unlock your account.
btw, the support has no access to your credit card information. They can't see the numbers, so they can't look if you have the same.

There are legit reasons to not like microsoft but i think their customer service has been pretty great. I think from what your posting this is self inflicted and they are trying to protect your account.

User has been removed from thread. Every MS thread does not need to be trolled.
That sounds frustrating. I remember having to jump through a bunch of hoops to cancel Xbox Live after I realized my Xbox was never being turned on to lack of games.

I had an issue with XBox one time. Did on customer service live chat. Problem solved. I waited in the queue longer than the person took to solve it.

Weird, i remember the wxperience of cancelling my live was actually a fair conversation. They were even kind enough to remove the overdue fee since i hadnt touched or had a chance to renew my xbox live in 2 months due to being unemployed.

The only hurdle was the queue line.

You're at wrong and you blame them for your mistake? This is new. Xbox support have always solved my problems and I did all that through the chat support, never called.

Sounds frustrating, OP. Too bad. I always think of this kind of stuff with an all digital future. Its like my email and phone number are as important as my ID

They have my credit card info on file and should be an easy solution when I am the owner of the account and can provide all that info. Had similar issue with my PS4 and solved it in similar fashion.

So no. Their refusal to assist is garbage.

My fault for turning on this trash console more than once this month.

How would they verify that? It's not like you can show id

What you'll find in life is that most companies with 2FA make it very difficult to get back into account when you can't get an email or the number. A credit card just means someone could have stolen it the same time they stole your Xbox. Apple does the same exact same thing.

Bro if you give up your Xbox you'll miss out on all those awesome games like recore, state of Decay, Sea of Thieves and Crackdown 3. Don't do it its not worth missing out on those gems 🤔

If Sony did this I wouldn't be ok with it. You should be concerned, not happy.

This is an actual thread?! If you're a mod and haven't locked this gamesfaq-level trash you should be ashamed. Beyond pathetic.

I'm guessing you didn't have security questions setup?

No, I have and answered them correctly. However... that is followed up by an email saying the request is being rejected because of 2fa.

It's silly that they cannot process the request to cancel gamespass. It'll be interesting to see what kind of nonsense will be needed to stop that charge because at the moment their customer support can't do that for me either.

My buddy once lost his gamertag to a thief, changed the info on file and then ditched the account.

Took months of us trying to escalate the issue until finally someone had him clink some link to verify his ip address and then they gave the account back.

I understand your frustration VertigoOA VertigoOA , but be thankful they took proper security measures.

Try to get it escalated if you can beyond low level call center people with limited decision making.

Twitter usually works for escalation as well. As shitty as that social media platform is.

Not an xbox issue, issue is you forgetting your windows ID/hotmail... did you contact them?

You really don't get tired of it

No, it's not - what you are asking them to do is something that would defeat the whole purpose of 2FA. Sure. it's frustrating, but from a security point of view I can't fault them for doing this.

There are ways to identify the person who is calling, have them send you ID and other documentation to prove you are who you say you are. Google provides the option — granted it takes longer but if you were really out of luck you still had an option.

How in god's name is this Microsoft's fault?

They have part of your credit card info on file... Your billing address which most people can figure out and a horrible way to prove your identity and a subset of your credit card number which can easily be shown on many other sites or in ur browser; and expiry date (also shown on other sites or in ur browser). Low-level support...pretty much all employees won't have (easy) access to your full credit card number as there are a bunch of rules and liabilities for them being able to easily access the full number. They aren't allowed to store your CVC code at all.

This is even more cringe than that "Disillusioned Kojima" thread

I have also lost my account and it sucked had to re-buy some games. I think they make it super hard to get your account back for a good reason though to prevent theives from gaining access but it's out of control I even gave them my credit card number and a scan of my drivers license and they still didn't give back that account because I forgot the password, which is dumb because it auto remembers the password on the system so of course people will forget them. It seems like those forms of proof should have worked for pretty much anything, but not for that for some reason.

What's wrong with wine? I'm drinking Chianti right now.

Sucks that this is the day in age we live in: a kid is irresponsible and blames everyone else but themselves.

I hear Nintendo has good customer service. Maybe you can have them 3 way call Xbox and see if they can get them to help you more than what you've tried already. Nintendo might be up for the challenge. Also never thought of 3 way calling 2 different call centers at the same time, seems like a very funny idea to me.

So the console is a POS because you have issue with customer service, who legit did their job correctly.... totally sound logic goin' on...

Sell it to me. lol

I get that we should be responsible for our account security, but then whats the point of support if they wont help?

Nice to see a post thats actually being helpful, no matter who the Op is..

I get that we should be responsible for our account security, but then whats the point of support if they wont help?
what should the support do? Everyone can steal this information and say they are the owner.

There are simple things like adding multiple phone-numbers (e.g. mobile and whatever), adding multiple e-mail addresses (who in the world has only one), connecting a authenticator app to your phone, ...
If you've done all this, you have multiple ways to get your account back. If you didn't do that, you must take the hard road and try to authenticate yourself with your ID/driver license, …
If you've used fake names and a fake address, it is still your problem.

Once again, the credit-card number is nothing secure. Everyone can have it where you paid with your card. And the people in the support have no access for that information, that would be a big security-leak/risk. At most they can only see a few numbers, but never the whole thing.
If the thing with the credit card number worked once, this support has a really big security-issue.

How would they verify that? It's not like you can show id
He could give them all the data on the card so they are able to verify if his information matches the accounts payment data. (Name, Card Number, Safety Code)
That should be enough to verify the identity when combined with some other safety question.

At least they could have canceled the subscription as he can confirm the payment method.
