Pretty sweet infographic.

Starting off strong with Halo: Combat Evolved and going gradually downhill. An exaggeration, but nothing since then has impacted me as significantly as Halo did from Microsoft and their hardware.

Wait, the original Xbox had 8GB of memory too? WTF was the big deal about the new consoles getting it then?

I'm sure they meant storage space and not memory, LOL

If this is highlighting important moments in Xbox history, where is the massive RROD fiasco and the "XONE" 180-athon?

It's weird that they don't boast their IPs other than Halo, and that they're bragging about Kinect considering they more or less dropped it at this point.

Trying to figure out what that 8GB on the original Xbox is actually referring to - and I developed on the damn thing! Maximum DVD size?

Possibly the minimum Hard Drive size?

I know all Xbox OGs came with one, unlike the Xbox 360.

Original Xbox: "64 mb RAM, 8 GB memory"

Xbox One: "8 GB memory"

Well RAM is random access memory, and memory is memory. You can call storage disk memory. Memory has just become synonymous with RAM.

It's not an infographic made by MS

Well, Stranger's Wrath was much better than Munch's Oddysee but Ed Fries went bye-bye, Microsoft got cold feet and EA ended up publishing it instead. And they didn't do a very good job of it.

always surprising to be reminded that the Xbox came out in 2001 and the 360 came out in 2005.

Just a very short 4 year turnaround cycle. Only reason 360 stuck around so long was due to it selling so well.

Wouldnt be shocked at a 2017/2018 release of the X2

Very true. Did any games take advantage of the HDD like the PlayStation 2 did on certain titles?

pretty sure Ninja Gaiden caches stuff to the HDD (forgive me if my terminology/tech term is off, I just remember reading that somewhere.)

fun fact: the original xbox also has extra ram slots, which you can add more ram too. but I seem to remember people saying they couldn't be utilized/games didn't improve.

You can double the RAM and install a faster processor if you like. You may be right about games not benefiting from this though. I know homebrew stuff does.

Yeah MS knows how to move on fast

the entire reason for the quick disappearance of the original Xbox was Nvidia.

And nothing is heard of of the HD-DVD drive ever again.

Also 2011 was the year where Microsoft basically "ruined" themselves by stupidly focusing almost entirely on Kinect.
The 360 was an AWESOME console, but when the Kinect came they basically gave their lead to Sony.

Still love both consoles, but it was such a stupid move.

LOL

forgot that gen was all about "[X]-killer"

mostly "halo-killer."

Brute Force: The Halo-killer?

Pariah: The Halo-killer?

Killzone: Sony's Halo-killer?

PS2/Xbox/GC Gen Spoilers:
nothing killed halo and all those games were ass
