XCOM 2 passes >500,000 units sold.

Good to hear. The game is great. I love all the changes they made to make the game more aggressive; hopefully someone comes through on the backend with mods and helps flesh out the difficulty curve a bit.

Super interested in buying. But I can't justify a 60 game with the performance issues I have been reading about.

I'm all for timers and turn limits. It feels a lot of the time like people are just obsessed with everything going absolutely right in these kind of games. You are suppose to roll with the mistakes even if it cost you some units along the way.

You should wait if you are obsessed with perfect performance. You will greatly enjoy the game if you don't care that much about that and consider it a minor thing. Hell you can't miss your shots cause the fps went down to 50, it's a freaking turn based game. As for the 60 game this is also a 200h game. (and probably more due to mods) so just get it. :p

Mod it if it matters that much, there's already a mod to extend timers or take them out entirely. I kinda like the turn limits.

Also, you made the wrong choice by going with Fallout 4. :P

Oh yea I forget PC's have mods lol, well that's ok if you can get rid of them because I don't like things like timers and turn limits. I almost exclusively play games where the action takes place in real time so having these restrictions just pushes me further away from these types of games but seeing how much I loved Enemy Unknown I was really in the mood for more of the same.

Destructible enviros are one of my fave features in modern games so good to see that they've added that along with improved lighting etc. It might be one of those things you have to see running in person. I have to admit the screen shots i've seen of the base/research centre looks way more detailed so I don't doubt there are improvements, they're just not as apparent when looking at games with this sort of viewpoint I guess.

People aren't exaggerating, it runs terrible on some machines. I have:

i7-960
980
16 gb
W10

I get 15-20 fps with constant stuttering even on the lowest settings. The game is literately unplayable for me until they release a patch.

What resolution are you playing at? 1080p? Much higher than 1080p? I'm definitely getting higher (on my GTX 960) than 15-20 fps, but in windowed mode and high settings (except for the higher AA modes).

edit: For those of you worried about performance issues, it's not that bad. I've only had a couple of hiccups but that was more due to screen/mission transitions than graphics performance. It'll run fine on mid-line systems.

I have essentially the exact same setup as him, and the only time my fps gets that low is when there's a shit ton of fire on screen. Anytime else the game runs pretty solidly 45-70 fps, and that's on max settings bar msaa, bokeh, and subsurface scattering.

Eww turn timers?! There is nothing I hate more in games than timers!! Just let me play the game at my own damn pace. Looks like I will be skipping this game even if it does come to consoles.

I think you're confused. You can take as long as you want each turn, there are just missions that give you a limited amount of time to finish them. And even then, there are mods to remove those timers and mods to reduce those timers. Honestly, though, I never really had an issue with the timers.

Why is the user score 73% and the metacritic 91%?

Was there something controversial outside of the game driving some negative opinion?

It didnt look like the press had as many bug issues as the general population. I'm waiting for more positive performance increases and I'm jumping in, personally.

I feel like 500K is underperforming for this title. It essentially matched the PC total of the Witness after a week. It's a sequel to many people's 2012 GOTY and I would expect it to hit around 1M in its first week, even if it's only on PC.

I really want to see this game do well. Hope they work on the PC performance and get a console version out soon.

What? Not sure where you got that information.

Does 500k encompasses most sales?
Because that's worldwide on the #1 sale platform for PC (which is the only platform for Xcom2), probably by a wide margin. It'll sell more over time as promotions and sales happen, but the first week of sales is crucial for a new game.

Hope Firaxis' didn't break the bank AAA style so there can be more of these.
It's a PC game with mod support after 5 days. So no, it doesn't come close to encompass most sales.

Something is odd with your computer, I run this all maxed out at 4k at solid 30fps/fxaa or 60 1080p/fxaa.
i7-6700K + 980ti

Already 10 hours deep even with the awful performance.

I needed my XCOM fix that much, great game.

XCOM is a known brand for PC gamer, it'll at least triple that over the next 2 years. And the game was released less then a week ago during a sale.

XCOM 2 has sold nearly 10x the amount of copies the Witness has sold on PC.

Now hopefully they get to work on a patch and start work on ciVI. That abomination that is Beyond Earth doesn't count.

I shamefully misread the Witness' sales as 500K rather than >50K....my mistake.

However, I still feel like the Xcom sales number is low for such an anticipated game with a devout following.

Approximately 500k at full price after 5 days is low? Jesus.

Considering Rise of the Tomb Raider, which is arguably a "bigger" game than this in terms of audience and marketing only sold 340k copies in its first week, I don't see how this could be seen as low.

XCOM 2 is already more than double the previous game on PC within the same time period. It is also doing better than Civ V was at this same time, although the market was smaller then. Civ V remains one of the top selling and most played games on Steam consistently. Considering this game took a similar approach with replayability, mod support, and presumably DLC support, it's going to be at the top for years to come. It's built to have long legs even with a strong start of 500k+ in only 5 days.

Also Steamspy takes a few days to truly catch up to the rush of initial sales. You're insane if you think this is low.

I wouldn't use RotTR as a barometer for sales success; that game has underperformed across the board.

Xcom 2 was #20 on the UK charts it's opening week, which I think is indicative that it's not meeting sales forecasts. I'm not saying it bombed, I just think it underperformed. I can't see these numbers beating internal 2K expectations.

I'm a big fan of the series, I'm talking more about the business side of this.

UK charts are physical only and this is a PC game so they're basically meaningless.

Why would you use The Witness as a barometer and not TR? In fact I can't even think of a recent PC release that has sold as well as Xcom 2.

Did you not see this big ass line in your article "Being PC only has meant little impact for XCOM 2 in the latest UK charts"

Shockingly, a PC only game did not move a lot of retail copies.

I hear that, but still would expect a higher position than 20. Game definitely could (and probably will) have a long tail but 1st week sales still seem softer than I was expecting.

You have no idea what you're talking about. I'm done here.

If you would keep reading, it says this right below that:
As a PC exclusive the majority of its sales will be digital, although normally the bigger PC titles still manage to crack the top 10 – especially at a slow time of year like this.

You don't have the right expectations then or understanding of the PC market apparently if you think those are low. 500k is fantastic and will continue to rise. It's not like console sales where it is mostly frontloaded.

Maybe I do have skewed expectations since its PC-only. I'm just sharing my initial reaction, but doesn't seem like many agree with me!

I'm starting to think that you're trolling now.

Lol not trolling but I'm tired and it's probably time I stopped posting for tonight

Good sales for a PC only game, but I assume this means they'll need to release a console version to make it profitable. To make a game like this one is not cheap.

Btw, do we know if SteamSpy include legit full price sales only or does it also include pirate games, press codes and units from these dark sites that sell non-official codes?

Yup. The game's gonna have a ridiculously long tail, especially thanks to the excellent modding support. I can see this one being played for years to come.

Enough with this. People do understand that Civ V has like 9 million copies sold not even including DLC and expansions right? Do you even realize how successful this game has started out and will continue to be over the next few years? It's not a game they're going to dump and say "welp that's that see you in XCOM 3!"

XCOM 2 seems like it was made PC only specifically to encourage that type of long life to it. It's expected to have expansions and strong DLC support. It has modding support from the get-go that will keep it atop the most played list. And the game content itself was built to be extremely replayable and random so it doesn't get old.

Considering based on your avatar and post you don't seem very informed on the way sales on PC typically go. I'd suggest you better inform yourself instead of driveby not so subtle port begging.

great news and well deserved, the game is so diverse and fun that I have no doubts it will become a classic and receive a very active community and mod support in the coming years

From what limited sales info we have the console version of the original sold pretty terribly.

HEY! No avatar judging now.

Also no subtle port begging.

Yea you big goobers!

great news now hurry up and fix all of those annoying bugs. i really want to play the game but I have already come across 2 game breaking bugs on 2 completely different playthroughs. I have never once had this sorta issue with the game. The quality control for the game is pretty freaking bad

Eww turn timers?! There is nothing I hate more in games than timers!! Just let me play the game at my own damn pace. Looks like I will be skipping this game even if it does come to consoles.

It takes a minute to download the mod that disables them if they really bother you. The wonders of mod support.

It's a sample of owners on Steam so it includes anyone who has activated a key. But not pirates.
