Xenoblade Chronicles Comparison Video (3DS vs Wii)

Looking at that, the original Xenoblade didn't exactly look great either, especially close up. They both look ok though, I'll still get this since I'm not buying it online for a really high price. Hopefully the framerate is stable.

I've heard good and bad things about the studio handling the conversion... What did people think about the Donkey Kong title they worked on?

I never played the 3DS version but I know the framerate was halved to 30. Other than that, it doesn't seem like it's that bad.

They did a great job working with the limitation of the 3DS, the game framerate was hold back not because of the studio was doing a poor job but because they were limited by the plataform.

Will buy again when getting a N3DS myself, played the original and loved it to death and the tought of a JRPG of this scale on the go... *shudders*

It doesn't look too bad. I will need to see it in with the 3D mode turned on, as I find many games often look way better with the 3D turned on. I just spent last summer playing through the game on the Wii, so the question becomes if I really want to play through it again. Regardless, I'll pick it up as someday I'm sure I will want to go through it and it'll be nice to have the game in my collection.

I agree.

and nice avatar..... :)

Looks great considering the resolution hit. As mentioned before, the jaggies in 3DS games are less noticeable in 3D, which should work well for more people on the improved model.

Can't wait to run around those environments in 3D!

While it would certainly look better, I really think a 3DS port is the smartest move they could have made if the goal is to create interest in the series. A Wii U remake wouldn't reach nearly as many people just based on user base alone and I'd imagine that most people who would buy a Xenoblade HD remake are already planning on buying Xenoblade X anyways. It'd just be preaching to the choir.

Edit: Beaten lol

By your logic this move is actually dumb since the N3DS has a way smaller installbase than the Wii U. Remember, this game is a N3DS exclusive.

Not too bad. I wonder if that is captured running on actual N3DS hardware or if they cheated a little on the framerate - it seems rock solid.

Hmm, looks better than the earlier footage had me believe. I'd imagine the 3DS version probably looks better on the small New 3DS screen than it does blown up on a big HDTV like the Wii version.

Yeah, but they made Xenosaga. A very different series to be sure but it focused very heavily on highly detail models. Xenoblade is much larger in scale but those models are just so ugly. The animation during traversal is bad too. The game looks so nice but those details really hurt the overall polish.

When they talk, I like to imagine they are a people descended from goldfish.

I think it's a very realistic port, we can't necessarily expect the N3DS to have Wii levels of fidelity with a game this size.

About as close as one could expect.

I still feel like the whole experience will be weakened on such a small screen though. More than anything else I think Xenoblade is about its environments and the 3DS just isn't doing the game justice.

Looks pretty freaking good on mobile YouTube, which is a lot more akin to what we're getting.

Keep a good framerate and we're golden.

Noticeable difference, but it looks fine if you ask me. Nintendo just needs to release the regular new 3DS here for me to get really excited about this. I still have my Wii copy to enjoy, at least.

Judging games with 3D mode off isn't doing the 3DS proper justice due to the fact that in 2D the pixel grouping makes the game image look muddy.

That's why I have never turned my 3D off. No reason to make the 3DS's already bad IQ even worse.

Nope. Different time of day + realtime cutscenes.
If that applies to this cutscene (haven't played the game so I don't know if this occurs at a predetermined time considering it happens so early on), then that's pretty important info that should be in the YouTube video's description as well as the OP.

Great fucking video. Having the two version play at similar resolutions shows just how good the port is. Obviously the Wii version looks slightly better but overall they are pretty fucking close. Hopefully this will shut up all the whiners now.

This cutscene happens a bunch of hours into the game.

I'll wait to hear about the framerate, but if all is well I'll have to but it asi want to play this before X, and uhh the wii version is kinda expensive

Framerate is already confirmed to be good and stable.

Comparing it to the Wii version, the N3ds doesn't look that bad. I kept visualizing the 1080p version when seeing the n3ds but I'm reminded now how bad the Wii version really looks.

Looks surprisingly good. Will be getting day 1. If N3DS can run Xenoblade this close to the original, I'd be surprised if Nintendo didn't have more Wii or Gamecube remasters in store for N3DS exclusively.

I thought this would look so bad in comparison to the original I had zero interest in the port. However I am very nicely surprised by that video and can easily see myself double dipping. Given the 200 odd hours of enjoyment I got out of the original release [which I never even finished] I can justify this to myself without hesitation. Sweet! :D

This game has british accents?

Yes, thanks to NOE actually bothering to localise and release the original Wii game. NOA finally decided to give 'merka the game as a limited release that was retailer specific IIRC but they used the existing translation/voice work.

This is almost a meaningless comparison. It's mostly comparing a real time cutscene. While we can see the differences, we have no idea what graphical differences there are in game play. This type of comparison is just misleading as to what the final game looks like or rather plays like.

Also prevents framerate comparison, which is what I'm interested in. Graphics wise, I always find that 3DS games look way better on the system than Youtube videos

That's really impressive, honestly: it's practically the same. I was particularly impressed that they could do the pan out through zones at the end without issue.

Looks fine. Anything lost in colour graphics is EASILY made up by the portability and the very fancy 3D effect (which, for Xenoblade, will be damn fine to have).

Watched it on mobile device and the difference appeared marginal. Only thing that stood out was face in one scene. And even then my mobile device is much higher resolution than the 3ds. As long as framerate is solid all looks well enough to me.

I don't have any real complaints. Sure I'd like if it could look better but this is my only way to play the game (couldn't nab a Wii copy within my budget in the past and didn't have a desktop PC until now).

Besides, I never used an XL so we'll see how the screen size holds up to the scale of the game.
