Xenogears on PSN 2/22/2011!

So if I buy this through Media Go to play on my PSP, can I download it again from PSN on my PS3?
I'm actually wondering if I can transfer the actual game directly from my psp to ps3, instead of redownloading it on my ps3?

Xenogears doesn't need a remake. Other than the horrible translation, the game is fine. Besides, almost the entire team isn't even at Square Enix anymore. There's no one there to do the game justice with a remake.
Some new sprites and textures would be nice, though.

It's really this or nothing though. There is no way money and resources would be wasted on re-texturing the game when the only people who would buy the re-mastered version will still by the as-is release anyway.

Horrible translation?

It's no Alexander O. Smith translation, but I really had no problems with it.

Really? It's just as bad as the original Final Fantasy Tactics translation.

Will buy this even though I have the original discs. As a longtime major fan of Xenogears, I can't wait to play this again - it's been about 8 years since I last played this. Hopefully Nintendo will look at the high sales numbers of this PSN game and move ahead to release Xenoblade in NA.... :( Wishful thinking...

Didn't the 8-4 podcast mention that Xenoblade was confirmed for NA release this year in some sort of Nintendo earnings call or something?

Pretty sure we would've seen about 10 threads on GAF the second that happened.

Bought it, can't wait to play it on my NGP.

Xenogears was one of those games that I always wanted to play during the PSX era, but since I was a poor middle/high schooler with parents that didn't buy me video games, by the time I had my own money it was really hard to find. Definitely picking this up.

Between this and PixelJunk Shooter 2 my PS3 is going to get some lovin' soon.

Cool, never played this.

Since I'll obviously be going in without nostalgia goggles, is the game actually fun?

one of the funnest psx rpg battle systems, imo. it's great.

it's also pretty as hell, and has one of the best soundtracks I've heard in games

My favorite part of this game is the one-on-one mech battles mini-game. Considering double-dipping just so I don't have to get my disc out to play.

Same here, the 1v1 mech battles mini-game is so awesome. I will definitely be double dipping on this.

Snagged it, although, I don't know when I will get a chance to play it, having just started Tactics Ogre.

While I was on, I noticed that Resident Evil 2 was only $2.99, and they put up Mega Man 2 under the imports collection. Grabbed both of those too.

Does anyone know how big of a memory card the 3000 PSP can handle?

As big of a sd card as you can buy.

I remember buying the original game off of Squaresoft's website and then waiting two months for it to deliver as it was on back-order. I still have the original game in mint condition, but I think I just might buy this so I can play it on the PSP, too.

I was a fool for buying the game during one of the re-prints but then sold it years ago. Biggest mistake of my life! This game is amazing!

Just picked it up.

I remember playing it back in the day when a friend let me borrow it, but I never got very far with it.

Now I have more time to play it.

Oh man, I really want to download it, but I've got so many assignments due in these next few weeks, I feel like it will be a huge timesink if I just have it sitting there.

Yeah, XG could definitely use a newly translated script. The current translation gets the job done, but the writing and grammar just aren't up to snuff. It also seemed like certain parts of the game/lines of text had only received a very rough translation.

Not to mention the -odd- way all the characters used -emphasis-.

I've always admired this game from afar but have never had the chance to actually play it. Just bought... even though I don't know when I'll ever have the chance to play it. :)

I dunno if the translation is all to blame. I remember reading when the game first came out that the Japanese version used some incredibly difficult characters that most native speakers didn't even know. I imagine that was a bitch and a half to change into coherent English for a Teen level game. Translators probably did the best anyone could have done.

Reading this thread has got me seriously hyped - never got to play this, so should be good.

Does anyone know a decent website, other than ebay, to get US PSN codes from?

I remember when I first played this game. I got it for xmas in 98 and it blew my mind at such a young age. I was playing RPGs since the SNES era, but Xenogears was the first one I played that I felt dealt with more serious themes such as religion and philosophy. I was 11 years old when I played this game so it definitely had quite the impact on me. I played the shit out of this game too back in the day and I still own the original copy. Definitely one of the best RPGs ever despite some of its problems (disk 2, etc.). It's cool that it's finally on the store and I HIGHLY advise those who haven't played this game to make it a huge priority.

I'm going to definitely be getting this. I still own the original discs for it, but I have no problem double dipping. This was my all-time favorite game for years upon years.

Possibly my favorite JRPG ever, despite its issues. Just so hugely ambitious in scope and detail. I wish I understood Japanese so I could experience the original version of this thing, rather than the muddled English localization.

I also thought the characters were all quite interesting - despite the problems in the translation, characters particularly like Grahf, id and Citan came through as very evocative and engaging (memorable character designs as well). And, of course, the music.

Finally! This and Vagrant Story have been my two most eagerly awaited PSOne titles. Indeed, this is a glorious day!

I played through a good chunk of the game on PS1 but never finished it. Two things I remember:
1. It tried to tackle some weighty topics but due to either poor writing or a poor translation, it didn't do a very good job. To me, it came off as angsty gibberish.
2. There was some damn section that combined very poor platforming with random encounters. I swear there were times when I would have an encounter in mid-jump. This would lead to me falling to the bottom and having to start over again.

Just went and got a $20 PSN card. I'm going to start downloading with Media Go as soon as I can remember my PSN account information.

Someone needs to make a LTTP: Xenogears |OT| Shut up and take my money Square!

I offered to make a good one earlier in the thread but no one said anything.

Does anyone know what a 80048B07 error in Media Go means? I thought the Windows Firewall might have been blocking it, but I changed the settings to let the firewall allow it.

Do it! It's been so long since I've played through this game that I've forgotten so much and don't know what to expect at some points. My terrible memory pays off for once!

Man, being in Lahan village after all these years brings back so many memories. But I have to tell myself....DO NOT try and win the Rock, Paper, Scissors challenge. I swear it would drive me nuts, but the completionist in me is telling me otherwise.

Oh my, will get for sure, but it won't look good on my HDTV. ;/

Plus no trophies or anything, another reason to get some of these classic games in HD.

Do it! But if I see "You shall be as gods" anywhere in the OP I may actually crucify a furry.

Edit: I swear to god, I had no problem climbing Babel Tower like everyone else. And I suck at hard or annoying stuff usually.

LOL!

Yeah that level got on my nerves
But I love the game regardless.

The demo that came with Final Fantasy 8 that had all the character combos leveled up blew my mind.

Fei's ultimate attack was something out of DragonballZ
