XONE new dash [NXOE]: A closer look at Avatars And OneGuide

The new guide features are really cool. The small things like the transparent mini guide, and the mini TV view while browsing content makes it feel more like a cable box, than an add on.

Here's to hoping they tie Cortana in with the one guide.

I think they are meh personally

I'd rather have a nice Fallout 4 pic or some other pic gaming related but they are pushing these avatars a lot plus we have a two year old selection of Gamerpics apart from Halo 5 so there isn't much fresh choice for users.

The new OneGuide is a huge improvement over the old one in speed and usability.
Indeed, but in its current state it is completely useless for streaming apps such as Netflix, Hulu, and YouTube. Netflix isn't supported at all yet, and the current app channels are almost all completely terrible. Unless you have a live TV service or actively rent movies on a regular basis the One Guide is a complete waste of space on the UI.

I really wish there was an option to completely remove One Guide from the UI. I would absolutely use it if they ever provide meaningful app channels, but until then its only purpose is to make you hit the bumper one more time to get to the store.

The new one guide tab is a really good idea in that you can see highlights from app channels without opening them, but it has one big fundamental flaw in my opinion. It shows too much real estate to discover app channels. I would prefer it to show mostly what I actually own and use.

But one of the most wanted features? Im sure there a lot more important stuff than Avatars that do nothing.

looking at the preview forums and Xbox feedback site I barely saw them mentioned. It seemed more about using achievement art for your profile pic or background music and a bunch of other stuff. I'm only speaking from my experiences though.

Yeah, seeing "XONE" really throws me off. Wasn't sure if there was something else called "Xone" and pronounced like "Zone." A filter to change it to "XBONE" would be preferable.

I wish I could opt out on avatars. They were an attempt to cash in on something the Wii made popular and they never seemed like a good fit on the Xbox 360.

To be honest I didn't even realize they put them back in and I've been on the new dash for weeks.

The UI still looks a complete mess but there seems to be faster now.

Hmmm, no.

The new UI is actually freakin nice, fast, minimal, easy to get to the stuff you want, mostly.

I love it and i'm happy they're bringing avatars back, i hope they implement them in games though and not just as a profile picture or something.

Why do people come into threads about thing and say they don't care about thing?

Anyways, Avatars are good because it gets us just a little bit closer to 1 vs. 100 'bone edition

Bring back Avatars, front and center! @XboxQwik I prob, one of the few that like avatars and changing outfits & stuff.
glad they listened, you guys are all welcomed.

I don't like Avatars.

I got it when they introduced them back in 2008 as a way to combat the insanely popular Miis, but they have no place in 2016.

Some people will moan about literally anything.

Bringing back Avatars has almost ZERO negative impact on anyone's experience with the Xbox One.

Its not that they brought them back that bothers me, if people like them fine. But one of the most requested features? I find that honestly shocking considering no one seemed to talk about them positively last gen.

Xbox 360 got Avatars in their New Xbox Experience where they killed the amazing "blade" UI, now they're bringing them back again? Well, that's cool I guess. I thought avatars were still supported on Xbox One? It's just... they weren't prominently featured anymore.

The time to install from disc on the Xbox I courageously slow. I remember tweeting Phil about it a year ago and he said they were looking to improve it . . . zilch.

If they weren't able to fix it with the new update, I'm afraid its hardware problem just like party chat on PS3.

Hardware? Then how much faster is the ps4 drive cause it takes me minutes to install a game on there.

I think drive speeds are identical but PS4 has extra hardware and processors to handle background downloads/installs.

Maybe that's what causing the issues with X1.

Agree with all of the above, not a fan of OneGuide at all.

Why does Microsoft modify their OS dashboard every couple of years? I really liked the second gen dashboard for Xbox 360 and I don't like the latest one they've got out. Now they're changing the Xbox One dashboard too?

Also, Avatars were already on Xbox One...

True

I think with some of us it's just a tad of frustration about things we would like to see added but are not.

I don't see why they should be mocked by some in this thread for it either

Honestly, I'd rather have the option to upload my own photos for gamerpics rather than dress up an avatar that I was fine with giving up transferring to the new console. They really hold interest to me now.

I don't mind the avatars, but I do care more about listening to my music playing in the background during gaming. It's the one thing I miss from the 360. Ever since I heard them say that it will come in the summer when Windows 10 will be released.

It has come and gone, anybody here who has some info?

I don't go out of my way to use avatars, but it is great that MS is giving fans what they want (this was quite highly asked for on the proper forum). Sad to see so many salty about it and turning it into a negative, MS is still working on and delivering a ton of other requested features.

I think many also enjoyed getting rewards from games, as it is a more visible way to show off achievements and such.
