Yakuza 3, 4, and 5 remasters announced for PS4

This is awesome. I never beat 5, although I got it free from PS+. I only played just a little bit. I hope they aren't just download only. Need them on disc.

Is there REALLY a need for a HD remaster for these games? It's not as if part 5 looks ancient as it is....besides...what would have been better was for Sega to re-vitalise another franchise ...ie Shinobi....why not bring a HD update of those games...hell even include the Saturn port!

There, of course, isn't a good reason for it. The originals look fine and play fine.

But, as we can see, even a very minor graphical upgrade is enough of an excuse to get folks to buy games they already own on the latest console. It's very clear that this is definitely something gamers like to do plus it doesn't cost much to rework these games a little bit and then crap them back out onto the market. So you get crazy people paying between $40 to $60 for a game they already own and the cost to make the game is pennies compared to what it costs to normally make an original game. So it's essentially great profit for very little cost. These companies are using these lazy remasters to finance their main games. You'd be silly to not do it. It's basically free money.

Sweet baby Jesus this is some GREAT news. These are all great games and the fact that I can have the entire series (albeit the first two being remakes) in the same console is fucking unreal. If this makes it out to the West, you'll be able to play Yakuza 0-6 and Shenmue I-III all in one place. This is like video game porn.

So glad this is happening, May just became the best month this year for me. Hopefully Yakuza 3 is released with all content intact this time. Can't wait to have all available mainline Yakuza games on the PS4

The touched-up graphics actually look decent. I'm super impressed. One of the big issues I always had with Y3's art direction was how washed out the colors looked, but everything looks crisper and more vibrant on the remaster. Good on you, Sega.

Nice, PC when? Hopefully they also take the opportunity to restore Y3's cut content for western releases.

I won't lie i mostly want to replay the complete version of Y3 because of Ayana Tsubaki. ^-^ Okinawa was cool too, although i wish the area around the orphanage was a bit bigger to explore.

The Yakuza 4 remaster has been given a January 17th 2018 release date for Japan. Bigger news than that, Hiroki Narimiya ,the actor who played the detective (one of the four main playable characters in the game) has been recast. Apparently, he retired a while ago and it seems Sega were unable to convince him to renew the rights to his image/voice. While it's a shame, the new character model pretty much looks the same, just with a slighter thinner face, different hairstyle and small goatee.

I am not attached to the actor for tanimura but I wonder what other small cuts they will make it for "yakuza" 4. Are they going to remove stuff without replacing it properly again?

Not sure why people are freaking out. At least they recast him and didn't let this situation trouble the rerelease. In fact, going through all this trouble for only a remaster seems to be very naive as Judge Eyes would be the perfect time to reintroduce the character after his absence in Yakuza 6.

Oh, speaking of which:

Ugh, the new one is even worse than I thought. He gives off a totally different vibe.

Supposedly he was caught with cocaine, so he was forced to retire and they are recasting him for that reason... Japan doesn't like drugs...

Old PS3 Japanese box art and the new PS4 box art. I prefer the new coloured image, but I'm still getting used to the new character model.

he was actually found innocent, but he retired anyway. I guess the rumors would just float around forever. Shame, i did like him as an actor.

I already have then on PS3 and don't think I would buy then again unless I can get them on PC for super sampling. Yakuza 0 looked amazing on PC.

I have never played a Yakuza game. I think there is an newer one on Steam right now for less than 20 bucks. I might have to check it out and try to get into them

Yakuza 4 definitely needs it, such a blurry mess. I'm really happy that Yakuza franchise finally gets some success in western market. I actually hoped that they also would remaster Yakuza Dead End maybe with better controls, it was pretty horrible on the performance end but a really funny game. And Ishin .. . Ishiiiiiin

It's even cheaper now, as it's part of this weekend's Sega Japan sale. Looks like lots of people are jumping in, as it's currently number one in the steam sales chart.

I'm in the same boat. I pretty much played through all the Yakuza games (1 - 5, plus Dead Souls) during 2015 - 2016 on my PS2 and PS3. I would have held off on the PS3 titles if I had known they would be ported on PS4. The bump up to 60 fps and 1080p makes a huge difference. A lot of the PS3 games struggled to hold 30 fps, let alone 60! Yakuza 5 is way too long to replay (even though it might be my favourite), but I would be interested in replaying the much shorter Yakuza 3 on PC, especially as that one had quite a lot of cut content. With the success of Yakuza 0 on PC, I think PC releases for these are only a matter of time.

There was a question about bringing Yakuza spin-offs to the west on their latest survey (the one for the North Star game, iirc), so I think there's a good chance. I actually really enjoyed Dead Souls, despite it's bad reputation. Ishin is the big one though...fingers crossed!
