Yes, it's night time in the game. When I go to Kamuro Castle, the HLA guy only tells me to take care of myself.

That's so weird. I fulfilled the same conditions:

1.) all 100 substories completed.

2.) all IF7 battles completed.

3.) all masters training

and I went to see him at full night and he unlocked. I was also in Premium Adventure mode and had completed the main storyline.

I hadn't (and still haven't) completed the coliseum missions. The first time I tried to unlock Amon, I visited the HLA president and it was dusk (pink sky). He didn't unlock. Then I went back to the hideout and rested again and went back to him during full night (black sky). Then it unlocked.

Glitch maybe? Or if you haven't completed the main storyline, try doing that perhaps?

Ugh getting these gambling goals is insane. No matter how much BJ I play I can't get the betting up to the point where I could possible earn 10k in one hand.

Use the cheat items you get from the lockers. At one point you'll get to go double the maximum bet (I think with a win streak?) and with an instant blackjack, you should break the 10k.

last fight i threw two guys down to the first floor via heat finish, sooo satisfying :)

Is that the one where you get their heads to knock together? I could never do that in combat, grr.

I've lost sooo much money at BJ. even with both amulets I seem to have bad luck and many dealer BJ's

that's a different one. i got into a fight at the market upstairs, then used heat action at the border, kazuma then threw the guy downstairs. not sure if i got those guys into a grab before. i think you learn this move at komaki dojo.

the head-knocking move is not that hard, you don't need many special conditions for that.

Eh, I could never pull it off. I only have about half of the Heat actions checked off on the completion list. Should work on that, as doing them in combat is one of the best things about the game. I liked the one with the Daruma doll that you can do in the movie substory.

Blackjack is the only western gambling game I'm any good at. Too many variables in poker and roulette for me to pull off big wins w/o cheat items. On the Japanese side, I made good buck with Oicho-Kabu and Chou-han, but Chinchirorin was always 50-50 for me (lost as much as I won). Koikoi was a disaster, but I loved the names of the various hands.

Guys help ! :(. I can't find the #45 lockey key in kamuro. It says on the faq:

45. Chapter 5 - In the tree at the very back of Children's Park (the park at
the west end of Taihei)*

but as far as i know there is only one playground and i've looked everywhere. Can someone help me with this one ? I'm sure it is obvious and i am being stupid about it but it is the only thing i am missing so far.

edit: lol i just got a mission to go to the park, i found it there just just after i posted :P.

Are you trying to get the "Chip Hoarder" trophy ? AFAIK, the 10K is a total amount not a single hand payout. As a last resort you can try to save game, bet big and reload the game if you bust.

EDIT: Was anyone able to pull off the Heat action that can be started when you're knocked down ? It comes from the revelation of the spoiled kid that beat his dad for not buying him a toy.

I did it twice, but it was by accident. I could never pull it off when actually trying to do it. :lol Same thing with the Komaki cat flip - only did it once and only by accident.

FUCK YEAH!!! Tuna caught.

First try too....sort of. My PS3 died just over a week ago so I lost all my saves (looking on the brightside, think of the money I'll save replaying old games rather than buying new ones), got the replacement, it was faulty too (everything was tinted blue), got another replacement yesterday, played a few hours of GoWIII then stuck Y3 in. I'm completely sucked in all over again.

On my old save I made about 9-10 attempts at the Tuna but never caught one (one attempt I got down to 4 meters, then my line snapped). This time I stuck to the tactic of concentrating on the tuna's direction, keeping the line tension in my periphery and only reeling in when the tuna was commited to a direction and the line tension wasn't red. I paused 3 or 4 times to calm myself and breath slowly.

Anyway, a productive day so far.

- all but 1 Ryukyu locker key
- every doable sidequest up to this point
- beat every opponent at 9 ball and got the break ace trophy
- caught a tuna, completed the sea bream sidequest, got the trophy and completed the fishing list

That may be the thing. I'll try to rest again when I get home tomorrow.

weird: so the last time i started the game up, i suddenly got a tuna in my inventory, which is very creepy since i never fished one.

is it possible to get one after you beat up some streetscrubs? that's the only explanation i could come up with.

no, i wasn't drunk.

No not chip horder. you need 10k in a single hand to fill out the minigame goals.

Really? I thought all three cheat items guaranteed you 15 wins. I know I used them to get the walking bank trophy on my end anyway.

There's a quest that gives you some I think?

Does anyone have tips on beating
Amon
. Probably the only fight I'm not doing so great in.

Dodge like your life depended on it, because it does. Try to get around to his side or back and then combo him - I was never able to get off a Heat action on him, though I suppose it's possible. Also bring a ton of Toughness Emperors or whatever the most powerful heat and health drinks are. You can pick up a bunch of these in the last story level
(going through the hospital on the way to fight Mine) by destroying lockers/cabinets/furniture/office partitions.
I think I went through about 8 of these, but then I suck at the game's fighting system.

Also I upgraded my armor to something that had level 18 protection against bullets and that helped.

EDIT: I also used some of the
swords you can find/buy (Sakura Storm and then the Muramasa). They have a limited number of uses, but their attack power is vastly greater than you get with just your unarmed combos (something like 120 ATK). Just don't waste them during the first third of the fight like I did. He sticks to lightsabers during this portion of the battle and your swords will just get burned up in a hurry as any impact against them counts as a hit. Start using them when he switches to guns so you get their full benefit.

you mean the quest at the begnning? i passed that quest 30 hours ago.

If you invest a certain level with the
Tuna farming scam guy (I think it's a million), you will get a million yen back plus 4 tunas
.

Oh man, I'm about 10-12 hours into Yakuza 2 -- I'm working my way through it before I start with Yakuza 3 -- and I'm having a blast. Much more fun than I remember (I've started playing it twice before but never finished it) and I'm looking forward to play Y3. It's been a while since I last played a story driven RPG like this. Or action-RPG. Whatever. There are cheesy parts in the story for sure but it's not that bad compared to a lot of other recent RPG:s.

oh, i'm not there yet i guess.

the mysterious tuna will hunt me in my dreams.

I've finally managed to fight (and beat) Amon. It was a tough fight but I didn't really enjoy it.

With that said, I'm now stuck in round 5 of the Challenge section of Ultimate Skill mode. I can't seem to figure out how to beat everybody with a single blow.

EDIT: Nevermind, I just did it.

I'm about the same length into the first Yakuza and it's been great. I can't wait to get into Yakuza 2 and then 3 but I'll probably take a break in between. I don't want to get Yakuza fatigue.

Never stumbled on this mission, I'm currently at chapter 11 with the option to go to Okinawa at any time. Think I can still do this substory ?

Yep, you just need to visit the Sushi place in Kamurocho first to activate the side story.

so harukas trust isn't related to any trophies or special items? i'm disappointed they didn't come up with a better idea to keep this little sidequest interesting. yea, you can challenge her this time in various games, but that's it.

This finally came yesterday. 12 hours in with about 14% done, still in Ryukyu fucking around before the end of Chapter 4.

That mother fucking tuna. I tried ten times on it, and got it to within TWO GODDAMNED METERS, two meters, before "oh he got away." That fucking bullshit is so Bullshit when you pull in the easy shit with like 5 meters to go.

MUSTARD SHIT FUCK

finally finished all the HLA missions, i didn't expect them to add that many at first, but it was pretty cool. the last fight had me struggling for the first time, but i'm still undefeated (normal).

next up: finishing all the tournaments.

finally started this last night. sooo fucking good. i am so happy to be back in the Yakuza world. i watched those Story recaps and they definitely kept a ton of stuff out so even if you watched them, you only know pieces of the main story. i like that so if you wanna learn more, you have the option of playing the prequels.

man, i love these characters.

<3 <3 <3

i watched both of the story movies before starting my game, just to refresh my memory a bit.

same, and i simply like the narration by the Kazuma actor just like with the first game in Y2. which reminds me, i think the Y1 recap was the same as the one in Y2 right? the Kazuma actor's voice sounded a lil different in the Y2 recap in Y3 too.

anyways, it was interesting to see how they condensed Y2's long snaking story into a fairly short summary.

i don't remember if it was the same, but you start out in the same area as in Y2.

kazuma has a badass voice, but he can also be pretty hilarious. i love when he goes all out in karaoke on the last part in his enka song, he cracks me up.

My favorite are the little vocal interjections he makes when his dates are singing. So fricking funny.

Is it wrong that I sing along with them?

:lol It would be wrong if you didn't. I wish they were translated through, since there's this one long phrase he gets off in one of the songs that must mean something.

yes, those are golden too. when i was showing Y3 to friends, i was always heading straight for the karaoke bar. they had a blast and some even got interested in playing the game.

Okay i have to spam this here too since im so proud of my babygirl:

I'm new to the Yakuza series and am absolutely loving this. My only gripe is the in-game map. n the initial area when I started the game, I was given a few side missions and people would mention certain stores or restaurants, and they would call them by a name different than that listed (for example, the missions screen in the pause menu told me I need to find the info centre. I hadn't visited that place at the time, and it isn't called the info centre on the map, it is called something else entirely. I failed a mission because I had no clue where I was going and time ran out.

Other than that, I'm staggered by the amount of detail. In Tokyo the streets are crammed with incidental touches and I wish a GTA game could manage that attention to detail. But I realise that would take years of work to pull off.

I think some only happen at certain times of day and some need you to finish other missions first.
Crap, so I have to keep switching the time of day? That will take some grind, fuck it love kickin ass in this game though.

How is this game's length? About to purchase it for 50 bucks and want to know if it's worth it. I liked the demo a fair bit. Does the game feel repetitive at all ?
