Interesting how these gaming outlets are so worried about what the Japanese think of a Western game set in Japan, yet never give two shits about the reverse. No hand wringing there
This, so much this. I actually wouldn't mind a fishing minigame in GoT - I don't know how it would work with the gameplay, but at least it'd be thematically fitting. You could have Jin lamenting in a bath about the one that got away. But if the game would be made by Japanese devs, it would have fishing in it. The fishing mechanics probably would be sorted out before the combat.2.) There's no fishing. Every japanese game that has some degree of open freedom MUST have a fishing minigame. Especially if given GoT's setting.
And who's gonna play the main villain? The horseman from Sleepy Hollow?
This game is more fun and historically accurate anyways
Don't back off by saying "but well it doesn't" when the point is that it would be ok to do so (and also, it doesnt). By saying "it's not" you are suggesting that if it was, you'd understand the outrage. This is something I've seen people do time and time again.well it's because the game portrays Samurai in a heroic, romanticized way. Which it totally doesn't, but to know that someone would have to actually play the game
amen. I was so upset to see it's not like thisI would like Japanese lip sync in the PS5 updated version.
It's not his fault.... Sega is controlling the budget of all their projects since the Dreamcast death. It's funny that he nitpicks when his games have all sort of hilarious glitches and errors when playing the games.
I love the Yakuza games but come on Nagoshi...you recycle and paste without trying to improve some of the physics.
If you want Japan to make that type of game then you have to take 5 years and research your own history. It will cost more money but you will get millions of sales like SP has instead of just hitting below 500K.

That's why they didn't make a Shenmue sequel and invested in a lower budget (and in my opinion better) series like Yakuza or that VC4 looks mostly like VC1. Yakuza Kenzan and Ishin didn't get released on western markets thanks to Sega fear of losing money... Which is a shame.
Japanese studios recycle a shit ton of stuff, with the exception of Square-Enix and Capcom (last gen), most recycle everything that is possible to decrease expenses.
From Software, polish everything to a maximum, but still depends on publishing deals with Bamco (that milks every anime game with the lowest budget possible), Activision and Sony.
Koei is only able to release a game like Nioh, by partnering with Sony.
Are you implying that Yakuza it's somehow accurate? the games are the most romantic shit ever about Yakuzas, it's not far from what GoT is in terms of romanticism about Samurais. What does this japanese person even know about japanese culture.
Sincerely, I am not sure a japanese studio would consider an attempt at a game like GoT as they would be put to a much higher standard when maintaining the earnest story presented. Take Yakuza for example, how would that look as an inside view on Japan if not for over the top slapstick-y and parody elements.
'Those westerners' have a nice excuse when it comes to historical accuracy in any-century Japan. All the better that japanese gamers are able to enjoy GoT.
I am implying precisely the opposite. Are you implying that Yakuza it's somehow accurate? the games are the most romantic shit ever about Yakuzas, it's not far from what GoT is in terms of romanticism about Samurais.
GoT it's not accurate at all either, if you are making that argument. Jin wouldn't have even existed in a parallel timeline.I am implying precisely the opposite.
Smashed SP sales records and even smashed Sony's new IP record. Word of mouth between gamers is even better then the reviews. So much love for this game. Still haven't finished TLOU2 so I haven't started GoT.
Without spoiling the story we'll probably see a sequal for this game?
That's my point exactly, you are working backwards: A western studio would have an easier time (i.e. would be given a lot more leeway) portraying an only semi-accurate Samurai world without elements of parody, satire or hyperbole - because they aren't native to Japan or 'adequately' immersed in japanese culture for a japanese audience to enjoy and/or invoke calls for not being historically accurate.GoT it's not accurate at all either, if you are making that argument. Jin wouldn't have even existed in a parallel timeline.

Japan couldn’t have made it. Japanese developers would have filled it with anime and hentai. It would also have PS3 comparable graphics. Most Japanese studios haven been left behind a long time ago.
I am absolutely loving this game. As soon as I fire it up, I'm lost in this game. Continuously distracted by the beauty of the slightly over-the-top colouration and vision of Japan.
I think I have played for around 20 hours now and I am only in the second act. Not knowing how many more there's left. Haven't even been to the northern parts of the island yet.
one of the few complaints I have is the pretty mediocre fighting system, that is typical with western games.
This is weird to read, given the praise the game is getting on its combat, but somehow i have the same feeling (I still don't have the game, planning on getting it soon).
Do you think it would be fair to say that, even if below the Japanese action standards, this game has the best combat system in a western game?
That's the feeling I'm getting.
Hell yeah! The game is absolutely phenomenal.
That being said, I would kill for a game very similar to GoT but with a focus on yokais and supernatural/paranormal themes.
It's exactly the same for me.I am someone who does every side thing I come across, so I don't even have access to the northern part of the island yet lol...
but I almost have all the fighting stances xD so yay... I might need that given that I play on hard
YES! I'd LOVE it!Hell yeah!
Toss in some horror stuff and you got another GOTY! Do it SP, just do it! Imagine Infamous Festival of Blood like, but bigger, creepier and with an Uncharted LL budget! Please.... SP!!!!
And turn into foxgirl Tamamo. jacknodIf japanese developers had made ghost of Tsushima the foxes would talk.
The reverse would be an eastern gaming outlet caring about how west thinks about eastern games set on west. I've seem some of those before.
And turn into foxgirl Tamamo. jacknod
well, IMO the best combat system in a western game is still DmC's combat system.
yes it was not up to the standards of DMC3 or 4 at the time, but if you look at it in isolation it is pretty good.
...they apparently had a lot of Capcom guys looking over their shoulders and having them redo multiple systems over and over again until it felt right... BUT I'll still count this as made by a western studio even if they had a helping hand from Capcom.
the issues with Tsushima's fighting system is for one the animations.
your attack animations are partially random.
meaning if you do a Square>Square>Sauare combo the way he will swing his sword is slightly different each time, this can fuck up your timing for follow up attacks.
and that's because you often have to hold triangle in order to do an attack to break the defence of your enemy.
the issue here is that the game doesn't react to your triangle input until enough frames have passed after you did your Square attack/combo... so because that animation is partially random each time, it is sometimes hard to get into a rhythm.
also, the auto targeting of your character is extremely high, comparable to games like Batman, where your character always wants to directly lock on to an enemy.
this sometimes fucks you over as the auto targeting doesn't hit the guy you actually wanted to attack, even tho you held the analog Stick directly in said enemy's direction.
so IMO, fixed combo animations and a manual lock on with an option to not lock on at all would fix many of the issues I have with the game's fighting system.
The game is absolutely phenomenal.

Nah, I want GoT's combat overall. Not something more Souls-like. Though I am still curious about Ni-Oh. I suppose I should give it a shot sometime! The game you re looking for is Ni Oh
