Yakuza: The Movie website is up.

Looks pretty badass! My only reservation is Miike. I tend to love half of his movies, and loath the other half. Though his yakuza stuff usually winds up in the former.

:O

I had no idea they were making a movie! Does the movie follow the same storyline as the game? I see alot of familiar characters like majima so I imagine it is.

Wow, looks great. I kinda wished I skipped the game and waited for this movie instead, looks like they're doing it justice

It's pretty much a given that this will be the first movie better (or at the very least equal in quality) to the game it was based on.

So this is straight to DVD huh? Looks like its pretty close to the game, they even use the same music and logo. :P Seems like it could be cool.

I've never understood why we don't see more Japanese movies of video games, instead of 3rd rate (or worse) Hollywood ones. This is something of a no brainer, since Miike's Yakuza movies probably inspired the game. But maybe this will start a trend.

Says that it will have a theatrical release also, maybe side by side or it could just be a soundtrack cd with a dvd in it or something.

SNAP! I didn't know Miike was directing this. Heres hoping for some bizzare rape scenes involving a mother, son and perhaps a dog for good measure.

Man, this movie looks like it will be just as awesome as the game. I can't wait!!

Can we get someone to translate some of the info from the site?
What is the DVD mentioned under "what's new?"

This movie will actually be shown in theaters, it's not a straight to DVD release. The DVD mentioned in the section you mentioned is a promo disc for the movie, most likely it will include interviews, behind the scene stuff. You can get one for free by attending the special screening of the movie.

Just noticed that Kazuki Kitamura plays Kiryu. Hmm.. he's a pretty good actor from what I've seen in tv shows, but I don't think he's got the gruff voice that the character has in the game. It'll be interesting.

Wow, didn't know I'd being seeing footage this fast. When is this suppose to come out?
March 3rd in Japan. If this releases in North America, it could totally create enough interest so that Sega seriously considers releasing Ryu ga Gotoku 2 over here. But, I'm not holding my breath, so I'm still importing. :lol

Well he's made about 70 movies, so if you like half that's a pretty great track record. Personally, I love a select few of his, including Vistor Q and Happiness of the Katakuris.

I really like the image on the homepage, so I cleaned it up, removed all text aside from the title, and turned it into a quick/basic wallpaper for my desktop. Here it is if anyone else wants it.. or if anyone wants it in a different size, feel free to ask.

Damn IE, who can't I get into the ****ing site??!!!?!
Ah, sorry about that. It should work now.

Yeah Sega, thats right. Shenmue III is a financial risk, but a movie to that average game is not.
uh, no wait..

Ok, it's my frustration talking, maybe that movie is kinda fun.

Yakuza is a gold mine in Japan for Sega at least they're getting profit from it's huge investment.

I'm sure Sega has little to do with the financing of this picture.

Cool news! Miike is really talented too so this is awesome all around. So is this based on one of the two games or is it a spinoff or something?

We won't see a stateside DVD release for at least a year. If they're smart, they'll shoot for a limited theatrical with a DVD release to coincide with the game release of Yakuza 2.

Well Miike did direct The Great Yokai War, which could be seen as a pretty big budget production - at least when compared to the films he usually makes. And since this is, what I assume, a pretty "popular" franchise in Japan, I think it will have some decent budget.
