Year of the Platformer [56k maybe not]

Haven't played it, but would Exit count?

The Wii has some great platformgames, but Mario Galaxy obviously comes out in 2007. 2005 is still a better year IMHO, Jungle Beat and Sonic Rush were both unbelieveably amazing.

Miyamoto said it can make launch.

Is Sonic Wildfire even considered a platformer? If so I'd add that to your list.

That's definitely a 2007 release.

There is more platform hopping in Mario vs Donkey Kong 2 than almost half of your list. It sure as hell is a platformer.

And the official title (at least on neoGAF) is indeed Yoshi's Motherfuckin' Island 2. :p

Wow, i didn't thought there would be this much assle about nailing the genres of some 2D games. This thread sounds like "it's 2D so it = platformer".

I know many will think I'm crazy but that Dragon Ball game is GREAT. I imported the UK version because I thought it looked interesting, but it's actually a really fun game. It was developed by DIMPS, I THINK. It reminded me a tad bit of Astro Boy, without the shooting parts. Really fun, and nice gameplay, but a tad on the short side. Definitely the best 'Dragon Ball'-related game ever, but that's not saying much.

After trying the demo, Loco Roco's also a must-have for the PSP. I was thinking of it more as a puzzle game, but it certainly has platform game aspects to it.

Earthworm Jim for PSP also looks promising, but I don't know if that's going to make it out this year.

You made the list :(

Mario vs. Donkey Kong 2 is NOT a platformer.

Did the folks claiming it is even play it at e3?

While DK for the GB and even the shallow "sequel" MvDK were platformers, MvDK2 is not a platformer in any way, shape, or form. It's a clone of Lemmings with Mario characters. You swipe the mini-Marios with the stylus to make them start walking in one direction, then swipe them again to make them stop. You can also swipe UP on them to make them hop. You don't have direct control over the mini-Marios, really.
