Yo-Kai Watch |OT| So this is like SMT, right?

Got sent to my room by an Oni while minding my own business. I thought Terror Time only happened randomly at night, but it was daylight still.

what, wow why... i've never had a cancellation on bestbuy.com and it's especially curious that they would cancel an item for those two items, both of which are in plentiful supply.

Was it a payment issue?

Anyway, I've been playing this game today. Still deciding on what I think of the battle system. It's... different, but not necessarily bad. I need more time to decide.

No idea. I was able to place another order and it has gone through though.

You can feed the lead Yokai before you start the battle. Doesn't seem to guarantee anything, but you can.
In the 2nd game at least, when you send out food it will always go to the Yo-Kai that gets hearts from it, when applicable. You can also see what food a Yo-Kai likes using the Target function.

It's lots of little things like that last point that make 2 a good improvement over 1 IMO. Still enjoying this game though.

What is the incentive to collect more than one copy of a Yo-Kai?

Also, how in the hell do you aim food when you are giving it to a Yo-Kai? I feed food, but it just seems to go to random enemies.

Not sure on the reason to collect more than one per Yokai, but I think they sometimes have different fusions/evolutions.
If you use target (upper right of touch screen during battle) and stick a pin in the enemy, they will be the one to get the food you toss.

You can use items pre-battle and I have used that opportunity to feed the enemy since the fight hasn't begun yet. There is no ability to target during this time. Is there a way to target during this period?

Decided to pick this up even though I wasn't big on the demos battles. Really enjoying it so far. Glad I decided to try it anyways. A lot more to it then I was expecting and I love how it looks.

In 2 you can turn excess Yo-Kai into souls, but I don't think that feature is in this game. Also you need 3 of that ronin yo-kai because he has three evos.

Getting this wednesday. Can't wait! Loved the demo, and it feels like this is the right sort of game for me right now. I just finished Persona Q and could use something easy and charming.

It seems like if you throw their favorite food it'll go to the right yokai, or if there's no matches, straight down the middle

So is there a reliable way in-game to get pink, special or 5-star coins? The... well, I would say "the thirst for Damona/Hyakkihime is real", but that sounds terribly lewd.

But really. Since we don't have a lot of NA QR codes yet and the JP ones don't work with our YW1, what's the best way of getting grist for the Damona mill?

Alternately/also, how does one go about getting Blizaria/Fubukihime? I believe her pre-evo is a B-rank catchable, but is the evolution item just a postgame thing?

So feeding to catch is random and therefore frustrating.

I am distinctly not a fan of this game's capture mechanics, partly because just like SMT, the capture rates seem to differ between monsters. I swear the capture rates on Helmsmen is absurdly low.

Does the color of the coins mean anything?

Also, this game has in-game 4-koma comics (translated and non-flipped), BASED LEVEL 5

I am definitely not the target demographic for this game, but I am just absolutely loving this series. The game and the anime are both fantastic.

Hot sauce on you Americans, us Aussies have to wait until next month :( Hope everyone is enjoying it! More Level 5 in this world is never a bad thing.

One negative I keep seeing repeated is the side quests all being very similar. Is it as charming as the feelings sidequests in Ni No Kuni? They hardly felt like a chore, the writing was impeccable and really drew you in to the quests, as repetitive as they seemed

We'll likely get it a year from now as long as this one doesn't bomb.
Yeah, the merchandising they're doing alongside the general marketing push this is getting compared to other recent localizations (*Ahem* sending LBX out to die with no fanfare) suggests they want this to become at least moderately popular.

Complete quests and that VR minigame at the main menu and cross fingers for Pink medals, really.

Or get the next best thing...

*Fubukihime/Blizzaria*

This kind of embarrasses Pokemon in production quality. No reason why Pokemon couldn't be in full stereo 3D. Just laziness.

But yeah I like the game. Feels like I'm in a anime. Bug catching seems off though; never lands where I press.

Sometimes it goes a full circle from where I press, others it goes half or in between. Maybe it depends on the bug? Dunno but it's annoying. I got a fusion item as a drop though, so hopefully I won't have to rely on bug catching too much for fusion.

Blarr. Welp. Are there any repeatable quests (or even one-shots) that are known sources of pinks?

Which is why I was asking after her, too - is the item to evolve Frostina into Blizzaria a post-game item or can I conceivably take Blizzaria into the final story boss? And where be that item, if so? And Frostina's a capturable B, right? SPOIL ME ON THESE SECRETS

Some of the presentation feels better, but at the same time, the game design feels like it's struggling in places with "problems" that Pokemon solved more than a decade ago. There is no excuse for monster capturing being this obtuse and random, as one example. And I have no idea what they were thinking, not adding any kind of internet battling and trading to our version, even if the sequels are coming. Forget the periphery demographic, even the kids use that constantly here in the States.

I dunno, I like parts of the game, but there are places where it feels like it is really, really struggling to get out from under Pokemon's shadow and it isn't quite sure how to do that.

I'm having a lot of trouble getting Armsmen. I've gotten 2 Helmsman, 2 Tattletells and a Komajiro from the same location but I can't seem to get Armsmen. I want Reuknight damnit! I know to feed him vegetables and I have a Yo-kai with an ability that increases the chances of recruitment. Is that really all I can do and I have to just keep trying? My main Yo-kai have already gained 5+ levels from this place alone and I'm starting to worry about being overlevelled.

I'm kind of confused about the battle system, one of the tutorial graphics made it seem like Yokai's position determined which attack they'd use, like upper left would be one attack, upper right would be an ability, etc.

But from what I've noticed it seems like this isn't actually the case and they just randomly attack or use an ability. Is there any way to influence battles beyond using the special moves?

Using books on Yokai that have them favor on attacking, spells, defending, healing, etc.. Positions matter on how Yokai work with the ones next to each other. Synergy is key here.

Just. Keep. Trying. I got three Armsmen before I got a Helmsman recruit. It really is That Random, and it is absolutely the worst part of the game mechanically. How they screwed it up after Pokemon's done it right for, really, damn near 20 years is beyond me. Even classic Shin Megami Tensei isn't this bad, usually.

Also who in the world has a +recruitment passive, oh my god hook that shit directly into my veins

So I'm 3 hours in and enjoying the game a lot. I just got bodied by Sproink like a rookie though. I beat him on my second go around using more healing items. I feel like I'm missing something with the battle system. Anyways the presentation is great and the world is nice. What is the deal with those bonus scenes after beating side quests? It caught me off guard. I'm looking forward to playing some more of the game.

Just got this guy.

I love his design but I haven't noticed an uptick in recruiting yet.
