Yo-Kai Watch |OT| So this is like SMT, right?

If it appeared in the top rightmost room then yeah you screwed up as it's probably the hardest of all youkai to get, you should have tried to befriend it. It appears in the vip room with the big fancy chair in it.
Yeah, that's exactly what happened...ugh. So wait, what exactly determines how/when it shows up? I assume it's possible for it to appear again, right?

I got Siro for my first attempt at Crank-A-Kai. Nearly all my monsters are E rank and this one is A rank. Is it rare or something?

Really enjoying the game so far. The characters are fun and most all of the yokai are good designs. The combat system is ok. Not as bad as it seems on paper. It works out, especially when you start paying attention to what individual yokai can actually do and setting things up correctly. The setting is really enjoyable too, and I enjoy how the story is playing out currently. I'd say as far as multiplayer goes, pokemon is still king, but this single player is fresh enough for me to say I'm enjoying it more than any pokemon game in recent memory.

My only real issue is the random nature of befriending yokai. That could be handled better. It's just not fun to not be sure whether or not you'll get the one you want (or any at all), even if you gave them their favorite food, and the rate seems far too low. Especially considering fusion and leveling.

played about an hour, up to the cat

great localization, game is very charming

pretty whimsical dialogue so far

pretty meh on rng aspects- catching bugs and befriending yokai

battle system is okay

I noticed for bug catching when you press A the arrow will be stop around the area where you hit A. It's not exact sadly since it can either stop before or after the spot where you hit A. Luckily in 2, fishing is easier since you actually reel in to catch fish.

So is it important to catch multiple of the same yokai? I read the strategy guide and saw that if you catch multiple it makes them stronger, or is that only for certina yokai?

I stumbled upon Duwheel while poking around (reached the final chapter and I've been clearing quests before going ahead with it). Such a good boss battle! I barely mamaged to beat it and got a ton of XP. Loving this game.

I love the "secret" of that place.

Just got the bike.

The animation is so fluid and smooth.

Love the bike, though I wish it didn't go away the second I touch any stairs :(.

Beat the main story this morning, hope they decide to bring YW2 over

Yeah I would say the act of befriending Yo-Kai is probably my biggest gripe with the game. I don't like the terror time sequences either, though thankfully they aren't really a big deal.

The battle system gets more enjoyable as you get further into the game with more options for your party and once you start getting more books so you can customize their attidudes and how you want them to fight. I like that the game gets a bit challenging near the end with the final 2 dungeons (haven't tried post game yet), and all the bosses are great fun.

EDIT: Also how do I unlock the Infinite Inferno thing? I found out where it was west of Shouten, but can't figure out how to unlock the door

PSA: Shogunyan is too adorable

You gotta go inside this mansion that's in the top right corner of Breezy Hills, then talk to the man inside there, then talk to the woman.

This game is so comfy man. Tons of stuff to do and I don't feel like I need to consult an FAQ every other minute like with other JRPGs. Good stuff.

Go to Breeze Hills and go to the mansion on the top-right corner of the area. Talk to the man there, then leave so a cutscene will happen when you try.

But yeah, I'm pretty sure we're getting 2. It improves a lot from one. And Terror Time is changed too for the better. There's even a side game in 2 that is based off from it, you countrol any of your Yokai and fight the Oni or exclusive bosses in that side game. Doing it gets you awesome stuff in the main game. And it has online multiplayer too along with the battling and trading. It was so popular they made a spinoff game based and expaneded upon called Yokai Busters.

Trying the demo but really off put with the localization. Totally killing the game for me so far, destroys the authenticity.
Really? For me its the exact opposite cause it makes me feel like im a kid again and watching old pokemon again. Down to a section of the game having a Japanese food item being referred to as donut holes.

Love this game. I shudder to think about how much time I'm going to put into it doing everything. Game really opens up once you get to the areas where you can buy most types of food. Seems like you get a watch upgrade, can buy most food, and get a ton of quests all at once.

Terror Time is bullshit. I got one today where I was pretty much cornered and had nowhere to go where I wouldn't be seen and have the boss on me. I've only ever escaped once. Most of the time I'm just in really bad spots. Super annoying when I'm just trying to finish up a quest or am passing through one area to another and I have to go all the way back to my house.

Really hoping we get the second one in some form or another.

Speaking of which, took me almost 3 days and a whole bunch of fighting but I finally befriended one of these in the wild. So worth it. Siro is so cool looking.

I think I've just reached the 8th and final boss in Infinite Inferno. My current party is:

Baddinyan: Level 57
Komane: Level 56
Tattlecast: Level 58
Appak: Level 57
Venoct: level 56
Shogunyan: Level 51

I'm probably gonna get my ass whooped. Every other inifinite inferno boss fight has been hard as hell and I've barely survived some of them -___-

I really really don't like the Terror Time stealth stuff. I'm glad it wasn't as huge a part of the game as I thought it was gonna be the first time I came upon one of the sequences. That and how you recruit monsters are really my only 2 negatives for this game. I think I've really enjoyed this much more atleast than I did Pokemon X, I would probably rate it around an 8.5 or so. Localization was great I think.

Yeah, my only issue is recruiting in this one. Otherwise this game is fantastic and I'm glad we got it and people are enjoying it. I give this game a 9 and is very likely my game of the year. I'm looking forward to the localized YW2 since I had so much fun with it last year (and it was my game of last year). It's a huge improvement and is bigger with even more stuff, it's great.

Got this game last week after it got repped pretty hard on Giant Bomb by Drew on UPF. I'm loving it, it's fantastic. The localization is charming, but I'm not a huge fan of localizations that pretend they don't take place in Japan when they clearly do. I realize I'm probably a minority in that respect, though.

Technically, the game looks great, animation is fluid, art direction is spot-on, and the 3D is very well done, but I do notice some frame drops around the Wayfarer Manor and elsewhere from time to time.

As someone who has played every classic Square RPG on active combat, I feel very at-home with the battle system. Difficulty seems fair. I got stuck a bit on the Sproink boss fight until I buckled down, constructed a balanced team myself and level grinded a bit.

All in all, I'm really digging it. It's definitely in the solid '8' camp for sure, but it won't break my top 5 for the year. Top 10, maybe.

Yeah, the game has some crazy fps dips for sure. The MC's dad's office comes to mind. On the other hand, I'm glad they didn't sacrifice content for smoothness. For portable games it's not like I demand the smoothest graphics ever, at least not for a RPG, and I think the tradeoff is worth it in exchange for having their vision untouched.

Regarding the "Americanization", I don't think I would've liked a 100% faithful translation because I don't dig having japanese honorifics or other japanese language quirks explicitly in the dialog, but I can definitely see how it may be a bit too slanted towards making it "american". Nate Adams, really?

I wonder if the decision to make it so american was partly monetary. This is a series with potential to go mainstream, not some niche game that is only going to sell to people who know exactly what they're getting like Danganronpa or even Persona.

This post claims that you lose out on a significant portion of sales if you don't dub. Anecdotally, I can see why this would be the case. Even among my circle of friends, I'm the outlier in preferring the original VO and will always pick Japanese audio when I get the choice. Then again, I'm also one of the few people I know that speaks/reads enough Japanese to actually know what good/bad Japanese VO sounds like. It makes a ton of sense that most people would prefer to hear English VO and such.

Been addicted to the game since I opened and started it last Wednesday. Finished it last night at 46hrs 20min. What a game! It was a pretty solid ride through the whole way through. My current roster has been Hungorge, Cadable, and Baddinyan (front); Mynimo, Agon (got it from a Crank-A-Kai early), and Neighfarious (also got it from a Crank-A-Kai using the Excitable Coin QR code I Googled) in the rear. They are all level 53/52 entering the post-game. I feel like I need a better healer and a better tank. Tried catching Robonyan with Tuna but it's a tough one thanks to the RNG. Still got a lot of quests and stuff left to do. I haven't found the StreetPass mansion and can't seem to figure out how to get to the floodgate door which I opened.

I have to echo a couple of gripes with this game. I'm not a huge fan of Terror Time as it can it be bullshit at times that you're one side of the map, get spotted, and suddenly the boss appears near your vicinity. The RNG stuff is the worst offender though which is what keeps this game from being amazing since it's EVERYWHERE from the Yo-Kai Camera (selfies FTW) to the catching mini games. It makes me wish that the mini games were more like Fantasy Life where it was skill based.

I also don't like some of the Yo-Kai designs and getting bashed in the head with Aesop Fables-like stuff (e.g. don't cross the street on a red late, don't stay out after dark since it's dangerous, don't talk to strangers, etc.) but it's a kids game and I'm easily overlooking the minor nitpicks. The Americanization stuff also makes me cringe a bit as it reminds of this famous comic except that the food names retain their Japanese cuisine names. Lastly, the lack of online of online MP is a bit of bummer which I understand the sequel has.

As a whole though, it's good game that has Level 5's signature high production values. It's about even with Fantasy Life for me although I prefer the former game a bit more. It's hard not to compare it to Fantasy Life since they look similar in style and have the same type of quests/game mechanics loop. I can easily recommend it for adults so definitely check it out. It's got a ton of content and rewards exploration. I'm happy it sold well enough to warrant a sequel since it sounds like Assassin's Creed to Assassin's Creed II jumps in terms of improvements.

Just bought this puppy (or rather, just bought this Manjimutt). So very excited for this to be my Thanksgiving game this year... the coziness factor it exudes seems perfect for the season. New episode of the amine to check out today too! Really hope it charts on NPD this month (yeah right)

EDIT: No new episode this week :( Let's blame the Yo-Kai... it's all their fault (all their fault!)

That's not quite what they said.

They were talking about potential games in general, not just Yo-Kai Watch, and for Yo-Kai Watch in particular the NX would have to be the best way for the game to reach as many kids as possible.

They've decided how they're gonna bring over 2? Last I saw they were thinking about how they're gonna go about doing it.

Because it's three versions, Ganso, Honke and Shinuchi being the third. They all interact with each other to unlock stuff and you can even transfer a savefile from Ganso and Honke over to Shinuchi. I think the issue they're deciding on is whether they should release all three. Or if they're just bringing the third one over and have to make some changes.
It seems they're pretty set bring YW2 though regardless.

I know they're bringing it over. Posted a link about them being undecided on how the localization will be done a while ago in the general thread. His post said they decided on what to do, but I haven't seen anything on that. I mean it's safe to assume they'll just bring over the first two versions then the third, but yeah.

Eh, I don't really mind whatever they do for 2 over here. I'll probably get only one version in English since I'll already have moved onto 3 by the time we get 2.

Does the game stay charming throughout? I really liked the demo so as long as it stays fresh and loveable I think I'm going to pick this up. What are your thoughts?

Yes. The charm only increases as the game goes along. Right from the start it is way more charming/engaging than the demo, in fact. I actually think the demo wasn't that good in that regard.

Finally pulled the trigger on this. Had all but 6 bucks of it covered thanks to an Amazon gift card. I wanted to finish up a few other games before the end of the year and GOTY talks, but oh well. Add another one to the pile.
