Yoshi's Woolly World |OT| It's So Fluffy I'm Gonna Die!

Is there a reason why the game will be released in North America in October? It seems pretty stupid to hold it back for no reason, aside from the consoles dry spell.

I think the reasoning is as follows:
1. Amiibos make sure taht they cannot release everywhere at once. In Germany, it's almost impossible to get the Amiibos still.
2. Yoshi seems to be most popular in Europe, judging by what happened on the 3DS (YNI / Kirby TDX), so Nintendo decided to prioritize Europe on YWW and USA / Japan on Kirby Rainbow Paintbrush.

Just gonna quote myself from review thread;

Picked my Yoshi Woolly World Bundle up this morning; Yarn Yoshi Amiibo is adorable. Gave it to my sister, her favourite Nintendo character (outside of anything zelda related).

Anyway the game, its what I expect, I have only played 5 levels of the first world but its a very solid platformer so far. Its actually not as straight forward as other Nintendo games, usually they are just walkthroughs for the first few worlds, I wouldnt say this is hard but for the first World it is definitely a bit of a step up from the usual difficulty curve. Whether it starts to get really devious later on will have to wait and see.

I can kind of side with reviewers on the sillyness of getting every item in each level though. Sometimes items are completely invisible unless you just happen to jump at the place they appear etc. when things are invisible thats just a little bit stupid. I've been getting 'most' of the items from the few levels I have played and I would say it was sheer chance I even happen across some items and I was thinking yeh there was no real reason I would normally have noticed or been able to find that, I just happen upon it by accident.

Otherwise from a platforming point of view, its Yoshi :)

Oh and using other Amiibos to unlock different Yoshi skins is awesome.

My scoreboard for my first playthrough of World 1.

As you can see, I missed something on every level. I can tell I'm going to have a lot of fun getting everything in this one. And I will, for sure, the game plays like a dream.

Wait, you get 20 stamps in every level?? Holy f...!

edit
It's actually a set of 5 stamps for every milestone you hit. 50 tokens gets you the first set, 100 the second, 160 the third..
Oh I see.

Heard nothing yet about my cooy. I'll be dissapointed, but I'm going to try to find the amiibo as well. Yeah, lol...

Guys where can I get the 3 colored Yoshi set?
I can't find them for sale anywhere :(
The amiibos are region free right?

There's no set at least here in Europe. Also these Amiibos cost 20 euros each. That would amount to nearly 70$ if you plan on import plus the shipping cost.

And yes they are region free.

So do you have to find every collectable from all 8 levels to unlock the secret level for each world? Jeez.

Only the flowers to unlock the extra level.

My amiibo collection is pretty small right now, but I love that every single one gives something in Woolly World. (Except Pokemon, of course. What's that all about?)

Since Pokemon is owned by the Pokemon Company, they dont allow Pokemons to pop up in other games outside the Pokemon franchise (Smash is the only game which may do it...)

Asked this months ago and thats the response I got...

EDIT: Can I use the Yarn Yoshi as a usual Yoshi-amiibo in Smash?

Oh yeah, that's the generally agreed reason, but I'm more wondering what's going through their mind where they wouldn't allow it. I mean, a yellow Yoshi for scanning a Pikachu doesn't seem like a very odd thing. It's not even putting Pikachu in the game at that point.

Pretty small? Lol. I have Boy Inkling and Link, and since I got the bundle for Yoshi, I now have Yarn Yoshi. I was looking at your screen thinking huh thats more than a few Amiibos...

Whats the average size Amiibo collection? Damn things must be gold to Nintendo.

Yes you can.

I don't think that's the reason, though. Pokémon has shown up in other titles. It could be because they were unhappy with the representation of the Pokémon in the game. How would they do Jigglypuff, for example?

Picked up my copy during my lunch break. Just played through the first 3 levels co-op with my non-gamer fiancée and she loves it. Hidden collectables aside, the game oozes cuteness and fun. Another perfect Wii U game.

So excited!
My copy of the game is dispatched and arrives tomorrow and my green yarn Yoshi amiibo is on it's way too :)
Gonna be a Yoshi Friday kinda day, woohoo!

I was watching a stream of this last night and the music was incredible from the few levels I saw.

My copy should arrive tomorrow hopefully.

I only have one amiibo though :(

There're about 55 amiibo currently available and I have 16 of them. I consider that small, especially compared to some others on here. I just get the ones I like, which makes the whole thing easier to stay sane with.

On the topic of hidden collectibles and invisible clouds to shoot, I don't think it's too bad. Yoshi's Island did the same thing, and if you played that you'll have some idea where these things tend to be. Platform by itself to the side? Definitely going to be a cloud there. Alcove between two vertical pipes? Cloud. Extra bit of stage beyond a section exit pipe? Yup, cloud.

Similar to Kirby?

I think, if it's really Pokémon Company's fault, it's quite shitty of them, especially considering Sega for instance was fine with allowing Sonic's Amiibo in Mario Kart and Woolly World - and Sonic is no Nintendo franchise.

I was noticing this as well. I think it's just because i've played so many Nintendo platformers over the years that i've become accustomed to where they hide things. :)

I'm gonna disagree and say its a pretty shit thing to do. Hidden or in a location that takes some thinking or experimentation to reach is one thing, but completely invisibile unless you happen to touch that bit of space on the screen is a bit silly. Its one thing to hide an item, its another to make it impossible to see with no real visual clues.

For what it's worth, there is a badge you can get that will show them.

I could be wrong, but i'm pretty sure I seen a badge in one of the trailers/Directs that, when worn, helps you find these hidden things.

EDIT: Beaten

I have the green yarn Yoshi amiibo. :)

Also this game.

It isn't just invisible clouds, there are also visible walls that aren't real (illusory wall ahead). Not a good way to hide secrets.

Yoshi games have always done that, though. There's always a tell, however.

Totally forgot that it's coming out like.... Now.
Ordered as fast as I could!

Bummer that there seems to be no way to get hold of the yarn amiibo here in Germany.

The New Super Mario Bros series does this as well.

These things are called secrets for a reason. :)

Yeah, honestly, you get attuned to spotting those walls. There's always something, but you will miss them if you are running through.

Is this what's it's come to gaf? really? platform games have been doing this for years but now it's a bad thing, nobody complains when every mario title does.
I've only played a few levels but every secret so far has been hidden but findable, there is always a clue or a reason for it being where they put it.

The badge causes a pulse to emanate from hidden objects, and I believe it works behind illusory walls too. It's interesting that this is the first Yoshi game to do so. They kept in the core Yoshi mechanic of hidden objects, but added help for those who want it. I think that's a very good compromise.

So how does one get the normal Yoshi (not yarn) skin?

Just have to scan a non-Yarn Yoshi amiibo.

Do you know how do you get said badge? I reached world 3 yesterday but hadn't come across it yet.

Slight criticism of a gameplay element, I don't know what I was thinking.

It's worth noting that scanning a Smash or Mario Yoshi amiibo in the amiibo hut will just give a message that it is to be used as a partner Yoshi and not give the skin. You have to go into a level and scan one, causing the normal Yoshi to appear as a partner, which then also puts it in the amiibo hut. Just a bit different from the others.

It wouldn't surprise me if it was late-game. I don't have it yet either.
