Yoshi's Wooly World is incredible

Bought it at launch but just 100%'d it last week after playing off/on ever since.

I enjoyed the game a lot. Was much better than I had anticipated. I just have a bad habit of dropping games when a new game comes out, but this game is so easy to just pick up and play. Even after a long break I was able to get back into it, and I was determined to finish it this time.

I've tried Yoshi games several times, and they've never clicked with me. Kind of mediocre platformers with floaty jumps, and I'm not fond of lots of exploration while also trying to not be hit at all. But I got this on sale anyway, and I'm enjoying it greatly thus far. As a pure get to the end platformer it's not particularly great. So the collectibles need to be good in order for the game to shine. And they are. While you do have to search every nook and cranny, all the collectibles are in fairly easy to find places that improves the challenge of the levels without becoming frustrating. And now you can get everything in multiple runs, so health concerns are more or less gone. It's the first time I've found the Yoshi formula enjoyable.

Yep, Wolly World is an incredible platform. Almost every level is different from the others and is quite unique. It has an amazing variety and it's something I really enjoy in a platform.

The Wii U is really full of great platforms.

I truly believe if this game were from an indie developer, and wasn't attached to Nintendo or Yoshi, there would be people saying it was GOTY material.

If it was made by an indie developer, people would be asking how they got away with making Yoshi's Island again, nearly beat for beat.

I played it all the way through last week - there are some nice moments but playing it side by side with the original makes it very apparent that this was made by a much less capable team for a much younger audience (perfect for 5-10 year olds),

No, the framerate is a mostly a solid 60 but you encountered a bug I'm afraid.

Basically it happens if you turn your GamePad's display off. Annoying it never got patched, even during the huge gap between EU launch and NA launch.

wait, what? please elaborate. I'm pretty sure I never turned my gamepad off and I always had a ton of framerate issues. Hell, even the hub area would drop to the mid teens for me.

I always played co-op, could that be why?

I can't wait to play it. I quite enjoyed both DS and 3DS entires, even if I can see why most people didn't (DS's open ended levels, New's sluggish movement). Yoshi Story on the other hand...

Is Zip Lash better than advertised? I've slept on it, honestly.

It was ok, but it's pretty slow paced and the level design isn't too interesting. And you need the Amiibo to unlock the bonus world, which sucks. Chibi Robo needs to go back to what it does best, action-adventuring.

That's never happened before so I wouldn't count on it. The only Wii game that was truly "re-released" for Wii U was Wii Sports, for example.

And Xenoblade Chronicles/DKC Returns for 3DS. But yeah, hardly all.

True. I'm playing Mario 3D world with my daughter too. That and Zelda Wind water as a assistance.

Wind Waker is great for kids for sure. My daughter calls it Toon Link Adventures haha. She really likes it but she doesn't quite have the problem resolution skills to enjoy it yet and she ends up frustrated and handing me the controller, so I tend to just go back to things like Smash, Mario Party, or Mario Kart so that we can have fun together. I recently bought Super Mario RPG because I'm hoping I can get her to play through that as her first RPG as it's pretty forgiving, but it's rough going so far. She still enjoys it though, and it's actually helping with her reading skills as I read to her.

Played this game to 100% completion with my wife. We really enjoyed this together. Great game that will unfortunately be forgotten.

I played it all coop with my missus too. A slightly gimped down on the plus pad of one of the controllers coupled with all those no-return doors made it a slightly enervating experience at times.

The title music is a super cute as well.

I wish I felt the same. It hasn't done a lot for me and I haven't been able to get into it. Maybe it's my depression, but I'm just not that interested.

I'm only a couple of worlds in, though, so maybe if I give it more time.

Really fun game slightly tainted by Yoshi's annoying voice, hovering grunt and garbage tier music.

You've got to be kidding. You deserve to be stuck in a room for many hours and forced to listen to a non stop loop of the soundtracks for both YI DS and Yoshi's New Island, now that's "garbage tier music" for you.

I agree that its soundtrack is definitely not a negative for Wooly World. I enjoyed a lot of what I played but did put it down for some other games at the time. Great art style, controls, and music though. Was definitely pleasantly surprised.

I might pick up a cheap Wii U someday to play and a handful of other games. Yoshi's Island is one of my all time favorite games, and I've always been sad at Nintendo's past attempts at sequels.

Eh... It's a good game but not even in the top 3 Wii U platformers, it's not as good as people said it was to me.

EDIT: Actually, it's not even in the top 5.

Thank you, OP. I bought this on sale earlier in the week and have been debating whether to pick it up.

Now I most certainly shall.

It will be nice to turn on the Wii U again!

I loved how it looked and it was fun in the beginning, but I think it was a bit too easy so I grew bored of it. It looks great though, can't say that enough!

Yoshi's casual mode is the way to go first. Yoshi can fly as much as he wants, and you never run out of lives. But the game's environments are puzzle-focused enough that you won't get bored. It's a much gentler introduction than 3D World.

Exactly what I did after she was a bit discouraged from Mario world 3d and we spent a good hour playing it together, she loves it. The design in this game is beautiful, very very nice game.

I've played three worlds so far and it's pretty good but not earth shatteringly brilliant. I don't know why but for some reason the Yoshi's Island games have never gripped me. Coming from a massive 2D platformer fan it has always made me feel like I was missing out on something, especially with the first Yoshi's Island. But the games just don't click for me.

I got it because of the artstyle tbh, and expected to put it down before finishing like I had Kirby's Epic Yarn, but I found it to be a really great game. I've still got a couple flowers left, one secret level to unlock and 2 Yoshis to make, but I've really enjoyed the game.

It's a very good game. Graphics, level design, controls and even the music are top.

But it is to easy, at least 3/4 of the level if you only rush to the end and don't care about the many secrets.

I think it is a must have for any gamer who like platforme.

It is a pretty excellent game. To me, it's one of the only three truly quality Yoshi platformers (it, Island, and Story - which I think gets a lot more hate than is deserved solely because it is not the traditional Yoshi experience).

i bought this and star fox zero the other day at best buy on sale for pretty cheap, this threads making me alot more excited about my impuse purchases :)

Ugh, is that a thing here too? I thought that was exclusive to New Island, and it was the single reason I didn't go for 100% in that game, the only real way of playing a Yoshi game.

Other than that it's certainly one of my priorities once I get a Wii U, I loved Epic Yarn and Shake It (secret best 2D platformer since Yoshi's Island).

You can buy different badges (have to rebuy them each time) and one of those makes it easier to reveal the hidden clouds. I didn't use it because it felt like cheating but in hindsight I would have probably enjoyed the game more if I did...

I liked Epic Yarn way more. The audio-visual mix felt even better and it knew exactly what it wanted to be; a relaxing platformer with the occasional challenge, but never frustrating. Shake It! was also nice, although getting some of the objectives could be a bit tiresome. Still, finally nailing a hard escape sequence always felt great.

Great game, I had a blast playing this in coop, finishing every level and then playing it again to collect all the Yoshis.

If you buy the upgrade that reveals hidden stuff you don't have to jump everywhere. I did it on my second run.

What's frustating is the bonus levels, but when I unlocked them I already had my fun with the game.

I strongly disagree. The bonus levels are the best part of the game: they are a very welcome break from the sleep-induing-easiness that plagues most of the regular levels. And even those are worse than the ones from NEW Island.

Glad she had fun! Super Luigi U is another great one, the second player can play as the Nabbit character, who the enemies can't hurt. They can still fall into pits, but 2D is easier to learn to navigate at first than 3D, and the levels aren't very long.

Will try it, thanks for the advice.

In general, it was a joy to play in my opinion, and this time the graphics made the experience that little bit better. Played it with my gfriend for months.

Finally got my hands on it. It is a refreshing surprise, with delightful graphics and an unexpectedly good OST (aside from world 1-1, which I find simply boring ; coincidentaly, this is the music we heard during the announcement trailer).

More importantly, it truly feels like a sequel to Yoshi's Island, with not-so-easy to find collectables (you really have to look everywhere). The difficulty is rather easy so far, but I'm still in world 1, so it is impossible to judge at this point.
