Just redeemed Stalker from an old budget retail edition

Awesome. I likely won't get to benefit from this, as most of my older retail computer games are from publishers who now have their own distribution platforms, but it's nice to see.

I wanted to register my STALKER Shadow of Chernobyl physical copy, entered the code and then GOG told me I already own the game. Totally forgot I bought it there!

So here I give away a spare key.

How? I can only find the cd-key for S.T.A.L.K.E.R : Call of Pripyat(activated perfectly on GOG), my Shadow of Chernobyl has no cd-key on steam?

I'm not sure what is happening on my end, oh well its not like I really want to play them anyway at the moment.

From the steam forum:

You need to download the game completely and launch it once. Then open regedit and the key is in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\GSC Game World\STALKER-SHOC\InstallCDKEY

Edit: if using 64-bit windows then the key is in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\GSC Game World\STALKER-SHOC\InstallCDKEY

Also you can try do download the game and go to the network tab, in the main menu.

You've got to download the game and look for the key in the registry ("regedit" command in Windows) as explained above by TheTrain. It takes some effort but I guess it's worth it.

Have you tried using capital letters? I had to in order to get SoC's key to work.
