Says a lot about Nintendos' efforts, besides Kid Icarus, no Nintendo game has this production values on the 3ds

The game looks so BEAUTIFUL!!! Level 5 is really one of the best 3DS developer.
As someone who knows almost nothing about this series, and just watched this because I happened to be awake when it was on, my takeaway is that the graphics look great for the 3DS, and the towns look really awesome to run around in, but the aesthetics of the majority of the monsters is really unappealing. Looks fun though, so I hope it gets localized. It seems like the kind of thing that'd be really, really hard to make into as big of a phenomenon in the est as it seems to be in Japan, because of the combination of how Japanese it seems, and the target age group.
In the first game if you cross the road a couple of times without pressing the button a secret boss will come out and attack you. If you've only just started he will probably 1 shot you.

Fire emblem, Luigi's mansion, MK7, Mario 3D Land...all look great visually.
Pokemon instead not so hot
It's not just that... if you go out in the street during the night, while you're supposed to be asleep, you can end up facing a terrifying and powerful Youkai (the one they're fighting in the 4-player mode).

that is just the first game that has been beast mode since anime release but YW2 is coming I wonder if YW1 will still sell when 2 is out
It's been in beast mode every since the holiday season started, last year. Insane legs.
Well, yeah. They're youkai. Spirits and creatures based from Japanese folklore and the most well known youkai outside of Japan is Kappa. It is very Japanese much like Okami was but I think it's worth a shot.

There's no reason for them not to try bringing it to the West, it's not like Pokemon had masterful designs in the beginning.

I agree, it needs to happen! The game just looks really good and the whole Japanese folklore behind it just makes me interested that much more.

I don't know YW because I never played it but it can't be "just" a Pokemon clone.
Pokemon clones ceased to do respectable sales in early 2000 and all that remained was Pokemon and Dragon Quest Monster (because of the big IP attached to it).
YW seems to have the chance to become the MHP of this generation, it must have defined traits which attract players in big numbers.
YW2 is going to be massive. To think the original game only sold around 50k on its first week and was deemed a semi failure by some.
It's pretty insane how Level-5 is able to create massively popular franchise again and again, one of the only japanese third party to be able to do so.
