Young Justice Season 3 Officially In Development

Not open for further replies.
I was actually getting around to watching the second season recently, so this is great news. Hopefully they'll be able to finish the series, especially since they were setting up Darkseid as the big bad of the last arc.

No, it got cancelled because it was too expensive to make (action western cartoon), and toys were not selling despite strong ratings because it attracted a slightly older audience

That's the claim, but it probably more had to do with actual demographic, and CN being in anti-action phase at the time. The whole "toys not selling" almost seemed like bullish to me, considering the actual toy-line they released was limited and not particularly good.

It isn't bullshit. Animation doesn't pull great ad revenue and relies heavily on merch sales. But yes, the toy line was handled poorly which led to Mattel no longer funding the show.

I don't recall ever seeing Young Justice toys on the shelf. The department store I worked in had large sections dedicated to Ben 10, Cartoon Network's biggest cash cow, but barely a YJ toy in sight. We could hardly sell them if Mattel wasn't supplying or promoting them.

Now if only Green Lantern The Animated Series could get the same treatment...

I always believed it was intentional on CN's part though, like they actually preferred comedy cartoons to action ones. I mean this is the same channel that basically aired Beware The Batman on a death slot with the seeming intention of having it cancelled, and then putting it down as a write-up. Believe me I don't believe in network sabotaging most of the time, but the whole CN anti-action thing I think was actually possible.

They barely made any, so it's not surprising, which is why I believe the whole "toys were not selling" was only partially part of the reason why Young Justice was actually cancelled.

Good thing it won't be on CN, otherwise it would probably have 11 minute episodes.

Oh god, what if they pulled shit like that Vixen "series" on that CW thing.

What are you talking about? WHY can't static return to YJ? Wiki says the Characters are still owned by DC. CAN you give me a Source?

I don't know what the current relationship is between Milestone (owner of Icon, Rocket and Static) but this is what I'm referring to:

Although Milestone comics were published through DC Comics, they did not fall under DC Comics' editorial control; DC retained only the right not to publish any material they objected to. Milestone Media retained the copyright of their properties and had the final say on all merchandising and licensing deals pertaining to them. In essence, DC licensed the characters, editorial services, and creative content of the Milestone books for an annual fee and a share of the profits.

In simple terms, Milestone own the properties and DC were licensing them for use in their comics and related media. The situation may have changed, however, with the upcoming Earth-M publishing endeavour.

Can you link to where you got that. And why would Milestone Comics object to having static in YJ

I'm not saying they would necessarily object, but those characters might be off limits until the details of their current publishing/licensing agreement are worked out. DC were actively publishing a Static Shock comic series and Static was making appearances in other DC comic books around the time of the first two seasons of Young Justice. That's not the case now as the series heads into production. It's better to exercise caution in your expectations than be disappointed if Rocket and Static don't feature.

Then why would they greenlight the show to begin with? Do they just want to waste money?

They are all under Warner right? Why would they shoot own foot...

Lagoon Boy was fucking awful. He was the worst parts of S1 whiny Superboy, S2 M'gann, and with a topping of his own shittyness on top.
I miss season 1 M'gann. I never liked Superboy's YJ personality. He was great in the comics

Because they have a view of success and Young Justice didn't fall under it. Its not some grand conspiracy , happens all the time. They wanted young justice to be an action show that kids could also watch and buy toys of. Turns out most of the audience was older teens, and young adults, and even more so women. And they aren't interested in that, because women and young adults don't buy action figures, Then they kill the show. Channels kill shows all the time that don't fit whatever demographic they are aiming for. Its why When CN real started happening a bunch of cartoons died, the new management could give less of a fuck of anything that wasn't in their narrow view of what success was.

I thought M'gann and Superboy were developed well. There was depth to their personalities even if the characters differed to their comic counterparts. Their separation was also true to their characterisation thus far. It didn't come across as forced.

I am so fucking excited for this! Now I have to set of time for yet another rewatch.

I honestly can't wait for more Nightwing. He got screen-time in season 2, but not enough action scenes.

The only super person who's super personality is weird is super man.

Superman the dude who's like this bastion of good character, is like the dad going out for cigarettes never to return. That guy that just welcomes people to earth because fuck all he's just a nice dude. Gets confront with super boy, then he gets weird?

Amazing we're finally getting resolution to the cliffhanger, but I'm reserving judgement until I see the art.

I expect if fuck anything up, it's going to be the art. WB's recent animated movies haven't inspired much confidence...

Will there be another timeskip? Cause NWing said peace and I can't imagine Darkseid said let's go gang on earth while the irons hot my boys

This is true. I hadn't considered the art team might change. Do we know if the original artists are currently working on other projects? To a degree, I can swallow uninspiring art so long as the quality of the writing is upheld.

I remember he ignored Superboy in the comics for the longest time as well.

I mean once he started looking at Superboy like a brother instead of son it worked out for him. Idk seeing my own clone would fuck me up.

Good. This is very good.

Echo the guy that has concerns about art direction. Consistency with YJ1+2 please and not like the new DCAU movies.

They were developed incredibly well. Not once did I ever look at Connor and go, "oh fuck you." I always sympathized. One of the best characters on fhe show.

Someone made a being in his image out of his genetic material against his will. Oh, and said being was designed to kill him.

I'd be weird about that shit, too.

Yeah, its meant to be a bit of deliberately awkward situation. Clark's not mean about it or anything, he's just not sure how to feel for much of the time.

Admittedly, while its probably too recent a development comics wise to consider for integration in the show, and would require another significant timeskip (that, or a hefty retcon to the nature of Lois and Clark's relationship in the background of the show), I'd be kinda curious to see what they could do with bringing Jonathan Kent to the series. It'd be a way of continuing Connor's identity issues, but from a different angle - instead of seeking validation, he'd find himself at threat of being invalidated as the 'real' Superboy. Plus it would give him the chance to play the mentor/elder brother role, where Dick loosely had that with Tim.

Now bring back Spectacular Spider-Man.

It was toy sales for the most part. Paul Dini said it was because female viewers but one of the writers/directors on the show confirmed that had nothing to do with it as CN and DC expected the show to push more merch.

Edit: It was Greg Weisman who was asked by a fan why it was canceled. It also did an interview on a pod-cast saying it was canceled because their budget came from a deal with Mattel. When Mattel canceled the line, they had no money to make a season 3.

I don't think the Milestone characters will return unfortunately. Icon, Rocket and Static Shock are not owned by DC Comics.

Mile Stone has been officially owned by DC sense 2008. DC still owns Icon, Hardware, Rocket and Static and can use them in which ever media they want.

I don’t think there was a conspiracy to kill the show. More like incompetency to handle the brand. In my view, two things killed Young Justice:

- Mattel: their toy output for the show was really weak. Now wonder people didn’t buy them. Not to mention lack of toys and other merchandise.

- Horrible scheduling: It may have changed depending on when the show’s plug was pulled off, but it was shifted around a few times and plagued with hiatus after hiatus.

As I've said before, I find the current model of action shows being banked by Toy Companies really flawed. I hope Action Shows find footing on streaming websites.

Yeah, no. I feel like forced cloning should be viewed like someone stealing your eggs/sperms without you knowing. Then 10 years pass and ths child that was created escapes and comes to you. Also turns out they were created to kill you. And the perpetrators are the Government.

Superman is the best of humanity but he's still human. Humans aren't fond of forced reproduction.

Yup this is what I'm talking about DC doesn't own milestone. And I believe milestone was upset with how dc was handling their characters in the comics

YASSSS Fantastic news!

Just please, let it be Young Justice season 3 and not "Blue Beetle, Impulse, and friends".

More Roy, Cheshire, & Artemis. More Barbara, Cassie, & Zatanna.

Humiliate Lagoon Boy in every episode, cause Lagoon Boy sucks.

That's all I ask.
