Your 2017 Gaming-Related New Years Resolutions

The only games I am purchasing in 2017 are Yooka-Laylee (if it gets good word of mouth) and maybe WoW Legion.

I reaffirmed this year that the games I enjoy the most are multiplayer games that I can play with my spouse, platformers, and some rpgs. I have enough of a backlog in rpgs and multiplayer games that I do not need to purchase any more for a few years.

I also love Nintendo games but I am holding off on buying a Switch until at least 2018.

I think 2017 will be fairly light on video gaming for me.

- Get my hands on a N3DS again and finally play my leftover 3DS games (Fire Emblem Awakening, Majora's Mask, SMTIV especially)
- Play more Gamecube and Wii games (REmake and Metroid Prime, gotta play those)
- Slow burn through Trails in the Sky on PSP
- Play more Dreamcast games on the arcade stick

-Focus in more on the games/genres I actually love. Too much branching out, trying to be part of the zeitgeist and play as many of the hyped games as possible is recent years has led to wasting too much time on games I wasn't liking much, or thought were just ok, instead of playing games I was truly enjoying.

-Related to the last one, abandon games and move on to another one quicker if I'm not loving a game.

Already putting these into affect. Decided to give CRPGs another try this week, put 18 hours into Pillars of Eternity and just wasn't feeling it at all for all the reasons I failed to get into CRPGs in the past. Also put in for a refund for the Baldur's Gate enhanced bundle I stupidly bought in the steam sale and hadn't played yet as I highly doubt I'd like it either.

1. Gonna spend less on humble bundles. I just end up getting stuff I either end up not liking or not even playing.

2. Less spending on Steam sales. Same deal as above.

3. I think this year will be the first time I buy a Nintendo console in 14 years.

I'll add a Steam related one to my list as well:

Be diligent in keeping a wishlist of things i really want to play and during sales only look at that and see if any are 1) cheap enough to take the plunge and 2) only buy what I will play and finish within a ninth or two of the sale.

- Build two PCs. One for 4k gaming in the living room and one for game development.
- Learning indie game development and the pros/cons heavily. Also, start a game company.
- Get a VR device (Vive or OSVR).
- Wait for games to have complete editions released.
- Play more on my PS4. Get more exclusive games as well.
- Get an Xbox One S for gaming and media.
- Buy more games on sale.
- Focus more on premium priced games for iOS.
- Try to stop being a back-logger.
- Balance time for gaming and college work.

-I wont buy any games this year
-finish my backlogs
-stop trying to finish game i dont like or dont enjoy
-Im a nintendo fan and i need to control myself not to buy the switch or not fall into the hype

  • Build / plan to build a new PC aimed at 4K capabilities, even if I do not purchase a 4K monitor this year (this will help work productivity too with extra screen real estate)
  • Tackle my backlogs
  • Play around with streaming games
  • Investigate the financial analysis side of the videogame industry by practicing completing rigorous dummy corporate finance models on various firms and analysing annual reports/financial statements on a regular basis
  • Attempt to start and finish an celebrated game series that I have not dipped my toes in
  • Less time reading industry news, more time playing

Only games I will buy this year will be 1) digital and 2) on sale.

Will finish at least 2 games for every one I buy. By finish I will include giving a game a good solid try and if not having fun with it, then moving on.

Finishing Fallout 3

Finishing Final Fantasy I

Started already late last year, but:

1. Realize clearing backlog is a myth

2. Focus on checking off bucket list games

3. Stop replaying comfort food games

4. Complete 2 games a month
