Your best clutch comebacks in gaming

You know those moments when your back is against the wall and it looks like shit is done but you suddenly get that second wind and you lead the charge to victory and win? You know what I am talking about, the comeback! What I wanna know is what was your comeback in gaming that you are proud of?

Mine is quite recent, from a game of overwatch in fact. The map was route 66 and near the last point. The time ran out and we were contesting the attacking team. Our mercy just got charged by a reinhardt, our pharah is taken from the skies and all that is left to defend the payload is our Orisa and me, as a bastion who just mowed their bastion that was on the payload while I was on a moving platform. Just as I saw my team's Orisa about to get ganged up on by the reinhardt, a soldier 76 and a mcree, I leap from sentry form and got to work. I take out reinhardt because he is low on health then I move to soldier who was just trying to jump out of my way but failed. Then I reloaded and set my sights on mccree, just then an enemy tracer appeared so I knew she would be a problem. I went for her and lucky me, she was low on health so she went down faster than a jenga tower, then I finally emptied a few rounds in the enemy mcree's back, clearing the payload and winning the game for our team. Talk about a close call.

No better feeling than beating someone at the last second when all hope is lost with a Mr. Game & Watch #9 hammer.

Street Fighter V, my Urien against some Ibuki at match point. He/she was almost gonna get a Perfect on me while I was at Magic Pixel, then I landed a s.HP Crush Counter & fucked his/her shit up.

I ended up winning....barely.

When we were in like 4th grade, a bunch of us were playing NBA Jam and my buddy hit a shot to take the lead with less than a second left. My other friend got so pissed he threw his controller at the wall and it did the automatic inbound and full court shot to hit a buzzer beater to win the game. Over 20 later and it's still the best.

Bloody Palace - Devil May Cry 4

Wasn't have the best day, got to the first boss - Berial with almost no health. Did most of the fight by the skin of my teeth. Had a sliver of health left, but so did he. I was playing as Nero by the way.

For those of you who know the fight, he reignited his flame and prepared to charge. I had just enough devil trigger left to active it, but it wasn't going to regenerate my health in time if he struck me dead on. So I decide to go for broke and try to dodge...

Except I didn't dodge. I was so tensed up a messed up the timing and had to frantically jump...and accidentally hit the grab attack.

Somehow, despite being at full strength flame on mode, Berial was stopped dead in his tracks, his flames disappeared, and Nero proceeded to slam the ugly bastard into the ground to win the fight.

I just stared in silence, dumbfounded.

Socom 1 on ps2. Playing on Abandoned, my whole team was wiped out and I was the only one left against their whole squad. I single handedly killed everyone on the other team to win the round. It was pretty crazy in team chat after I did it.

Back when I used to play Uncharted 2 online I remember my team was down something like 13-49 in King of the Hill (first to 50 points wins), and we managed to win 50-49.
In Uncharted 3 I also remember getting a kill with less than a second remaining to send a team deathmatch into overtime which we subsequently won.

Another time in Uncharted 2 in team deathmatch I was playing in a party of 5 against another really good team (who loved to trash talk I might add...) and we were down 43-49 on the ruins stage. We basically fortified ourselves in a defendable area and levelled the scores, before we all spread out to get the last kill. I managed to get it in a little 1v1 scuffle and was suitably chuffed.

Original Gears of War.

The other team stomps my squad.

Then I manage to go John Wick on them all with the shotgun.

It was especially incredible because I was a very average player at best and rarely pulled through in such situations but I just zen'd out this one time.

Any RPG where you are down to one character left alive,
single digit hit points remaining flashing red,
empty on healing items and MP,
just to give in to the inevitable game over but still hit the attack button out of spite,
but lo and behold, the boss is...Eliminated!
And you literally cheer and jump for joy

All just to accidentally trip over the power cable before saving...

Unreal Tournament 99. Deathmatch Barricade. 20 frags to win. 3 people per team except mine which has 2. Start of match my team mate suicides off the side and disconnects. Won the match solo with 21 kills and 0 deaths.

I've had many, but the one that sticks out the most for me is one that happened in the Xbox 360 version of World of Tanks.

My team was decimated, only myself and one other team mate were left, I was using a tank destroyer and my team mate was using an artillery tank. There were 8 players still alive on the enemy team, so the two of us stuck together and waited for them to come get us.

I was somehow able to take out all 8 of them on my own as they approached, which won the game for us. It was a very intense moment.

FFIV (II US): I was fighting Zeromus, and everyone died. Except for Kain. His HP ticked down to 0, but he was still alive because he was in mid-air, but he would die as soon as he landed. Well, he landed, and Zeromus died, and I beat the game.

FFXV DLC: I was fighting
Cor
, and I had a terrible start—missed a bunch of parries and used up all my items. That ended up being the round I won. I was just in the zone for the rest of the match, I guess.

And there are the tons of various fighting game matches where I'd come back from almost losing. Those are always awesome.

Winning 1st place for the first time against Mario Kart GAF.

Was holding first by the skin of my teeth on the last lap, GAF animals nipping at my heel (per usual). Got blasted by a red shell, fell to 4th. Clawed my way back to 3rd and was content to finish as such since I never closed out that high, when a purple shell streaked past just inches from my wheel and obliterated the couple in front. I was so close to the explosion and getting hit myself I literally pierced through the fiery blast radius unharmed and left those poor GAF bastards to their miserable fates.

First place! First time!

Original Gears of War.

The other team stomps my squad.

Then I manage to go John Wick on them all with the shotgun.

It was especially incredible because I was a very average player at best and rarely pulled through in such situations but I just zen'd out this one time.

It was the same for me but with a magnum on my nephews account. His squad got levelled and I borrowed the controller and was just rolling headpops all over, man Gear 1 was so much fun.

Me and 7 other guys playing Battlefield Bad Company 2 Rush mode on Valparaiso as defenders. I was at a buddies house as we played together with the group on Xbox live chat. Had the enemy team always down to a few tickets but they would some how destory the Mcoms and advance. They did some very cheap methods as well...

Came down to the last Mcom alarming as their tickets hovered around 2..1....3...1.. *end game*. We did not know if the Mcom exploded or if the tickets ran out. Then the victory animation played any we all cheered and screamed lol.

Probably was the most intense game I had ever played.

Down 49-40 on ascension in halo 2. Tied it up and 49 and we all were stranded at the top of big tower and I threw a blind sticky that bounced off the roof and stuck on some one coming up the stairs. One day I hope to find the other two people that played with me and my friend. Maybe on gaf?

MGO:
Was able to hit the emp thing on a really close game that made us win in a few seconds.

Cod:MW2
Was losing a domination game and enemy was like 100 points ahead and 10 points to win. Got my streaks going and got the nuke to end the game. That shit was exhilarating.

Splatoon ranked: Rainmaker.

We were losing a good bit, my memory's going fuzzy but i think it was like 35 to 65 (lower score is better), so it gets into the final 30 seconds of the match and the winning team has the rainmaker. So they grab it and take it way back into their territory (this was on Port Mackerel) to try to make sure we can't get a hold of it (so it doesn't go into OT).

The player with the rainmaker is *way* out of my reach, but i have the Killer Wail, a sound-based weapon that can reach through walls and will cross the entire stage, but is a fairly narrow beam so you have to aim it right (at higher levels, mostly used for area denial as the beam holds a few seconds).

So i can see where the player with the rainmaker is, because you can always see an icon telling you where it is (not even on the map on the gamepad, right up on the screen), so, just to spite them before my defeat, i whip out the Killer Wail and fire it at them.

I *do* manage to splat them with it, and make a beeline deep into their territory to go for the rainmaker as the clock ticks down to zero. The player i splatted is respawning while the other players were out fighting the middle of the field, rubbing in their victory. I start trying to break the rainmaker's shield, and the fact that i'm working the shield uncontested means that overtime kicks in. Nobody notices me, i break the shield, seize the rainmaker, and instantly win the game (because the player had gone very close to their goal, so our score dropped from 65 to like 25 in an instant, and the enemy player had carried it there for me).

I managed to pull off a 1 vs 9 (maybe 10) round on Nuke in Counter Strike. I didn't kill everyone, but I killed most and planted + defended the bomb for the win. After that, someone on the other team turned on their hacks. Their team still lost in the end.

R6 Siege has a lot of dramatic clutch victories (or at least it did before they lowered the time limit). One time I was playing with a bunch of little kids on my team, and they all died right away. I panicked and hid behind a refrigerator, and as the enemy team came charging into the kitchen they ended up in a line. I peaked around the corner and gunned them all down and the kids I was playing with went bananas into their mics. It was amazing because up until then I had been the worst player on the team and those kids were totally like 10 years old.

One time on the first map of Dustbowl in TF2 the clock had wound down to the point where there was no hope for red on attack. The other team had already started running forward for the eventual crit-death-fest after the round was lost. Unfortunately for them, I picked Scout, bonked my way past everything in the last 15-20 seconds, and captured the last point. Fun times.

I had rented Code Name : Viper on the NES. Got to the last boss and was having a hard time with him. I was down to my last hit, my last bullet, and my mom was in my room telling me we had to take it back to the video store NOW, so there was no retrying. But I managed score that last shot and it was enough to kill the boss and finish the game. It wasn't a very good game, but that moment was fun.

My most memorable game in Starcraft 2 was barely holding off an early toss all-in as terran in 1v1 ladder. Lost my natural, kept macro going, barely got enough out with an SCV pull to hold the guy off at the entrance to my main, pushed back to his pylon and took it out, marched across to win the game. That's pretty much when Starcraft became my one true love.
