Your Favorite Game That You Never Finished

Thread title is pretty self explanatory. What's your favorite game that you never finished? And how come you never finished it? For me, it's...

...got it when it came out, played the shit out of it, and was at least 75% through the game when I lost disc 2. Last thing I remember doing is being on some side quest to find some giant looking spider thing. I was incredibly pissed but there was a ton of good games out during that time so I had enough to keep me occupied. Then the Gamecube version came out and I was like "Alright now I can finally finish this!". I was not happy at all with how ass the sound quality was and after I fought what I recall being a pretty difficult boss early in the game in a desert temple area that killed Aika on the same turn that I killed it, and thus precluded Aika from the experience, I said "Fuck this!" and never played it again.

I already have a bit of a backlog and nostalgia probably has me thinking that this game has stood the test of time much better than it actually has so I'm afraid to give it another go. Like many gaffers I'm dying for a remake or a sequel but we all know that's not happening any time soon, if ever.

Shining the Holy Ark (Sega Saturn)

54 hours in, approaching the last boss, and tiredness got the better of me. Went to bed, got up the next say and my Saturn battery had died. All save files gone.

I was having a cracking time with it until that point, a brilliant, first-person hardcore RPG for the ages. But given how much grinding I went through to survive it, it will remain unfinished.

Going to crucify myself here:

Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

I mean, I'm at Ganon's castle... I've just not gone through it to finally beat him. A part of me doesn't want this game to end for me...

But I have beaten Majora's Mask. Twice. :lol

This was Dead Rising for me, but I finally finished it. Otherwise, there is a couple:

Blades of Vengence for Genesis. EA at its best, hardcore rpg platformer much like Cadash. Made it to the second to last level once, but that was painful. Loved the game though.

Dragon warrior 3 for the Nes. I still need to bring my noes out of storage just so i can finally finish this amazing game. I am at the part where it is a throwback to DW1 and never went forward. Hopefully the battery still works..

Final Fantasy XII (Clocked in over 120 hours but didn't get around finishing, LOL!)

Dragon Quest IV, V, and VIII (Love the series, but so tedious to play it through)

Chrono Trigger.
I was playing it for the first time on the DS last summer and had done pretty much done everything I wanted to and was about to go face Lavos, then my DS broke. I eventually got a new DS but whenever I've been back at home since then I haven't been able to find it anywhere. I'm sure it's going to be in some box or drawer somewhere but it's driving me nuts that I just can't finish it when I was so close to the end and even if I buy a new copy my saves will be lost.

Ico. :(

Edit:

I didn't finish it because I remember getting stuck somewhere, and it was just a case of playing other titles like Silent Hill 2 and getting a Gamecube at that point didn't help either.

inFamous.

I have no idea why I never finished it. I was having a great time with the game. I'm pretty sure I just got really busy with school and work. The next thing you know the great rush of Fall 2009 was upon us and I just haven't ever thought to go back and finish it.

That's exactely my story with Chrono Trigger. I 100% the game. Did every single sidequest, but never beat lavos. Tried 3 times, died, and stopped.

Too bad I lost the save.

In the last 15 years, I have tried finishing it by myself, I have tried finishing it co-operatively with my cousin, I have tried alternating play in a group of 6, I have considered looking into glitches to help finish it, I have even asked my parents to help.

...and I keep fucking dying here!! At this rate, I may as well just ask my future children to finish it for me. :/

Fallout 2. I came close to beating it, like, 3 times. For some reason I never did.

Persona 3. I haven't finished it yet because I have bad luck and have had to start three seperate playthroughs all together.

Got it when it first came out, put like 70 hrs into it, then took a break. Got a (60GB) PS3 a few months later and couldn't continue my save. Started another game sometime during February and put around 20 hours into it then Fes was announced not too long after.

Started my third save, Fes edition, this April and have about 40+ hours in it (can't remember, haven't played in about 2-3 weeks.) I WILL FINISH THIS ONE DAMMIT.

I still need to finish Metroid Prime 3 and Zelda: Twilight Princess. If I really love a game, I will finish it. I guess I didn't really love these games. I'll get around to finishing them eventually.

Chrono Cross, sadly.

Never even made it to the second disc. I got frustrated fighting the colored dragons and losing repeatedly. Someday though.

Probably Nethack, can't say I've ever beaten it though I've tried quite a bit.
It makes me smile whenever I realize other people have actually played Nethack. :D

I believe I only ever ascended once, as a human archeologist of all things (not my normal elven wizard with the finger of death spellbook). I think it was on a slightly outdated Nethack version (like 0.2 versions back), on a grayscale old handheld computer. :lol

As for me, I'd say maybe Mirror's Edge since I played it and messed with map editing for a long time before ever even finishing it. Now that I've beaten it, let me see. Maybe Prince of Persia: Sands of Time (aside from the combat with regenerating blocking guards) and the Call of Juarez games.

Metroid Prime Trilogy. Only about half way through MP2. I'm usually pretty good about finishing my games. At least the ones that have an endpoint.

Off the top of my head I would say Front Mission 3. Totally love that game, got it right when it came out, but lost my save like 2 missions from the end. I've been meaning to go back to it for like 10 years and just never have.

Xenogears and Final Fantasy VIII.

I always get far enough into the games but put them down for awhile. I have played up to disk 3 of FF8 at least three times up to to the same point and I am pretty sure I was near the end of disk 1 in Xenogears.

Toss up between Mercenaries: PoD and Jersey Devil.

In Mercs 1, I just flat out refuse to do any of the missions on the third set of the deck until I found all of the card contracts that are just in random areas on the map. I just really like the mildly directionless exploring without having to worry about juggling the factions, kind of reminds me of a modern Legend of Zelda 1. The only problem is this method is extremely slow but over the course of the past few years I've finally whittled it down to two people left on the map somewhere. When I get to the final set, I think I'm just going to fuck that and do the missions :lol

In Jersey Devil I had a PS2 but no PS1 memory card, so anytime I played I had to do without gameovering or turning off the console. I had an extremely fun time but losing all of my progress and starting back from square one eventually got tiring. I eventually bought a PS1 memory card for other games, but I haven't had time to replay JD.

Max Payne 1. Got it day one and had a lot of fun with it. Got to the last level and never finished it. New Computer - reinstalled the game half a year later... Again played for a long time and stopped. Installed Mods and more mods (Matrix Lobby scene and stuff) played trough it again and .... stopped.

One day I will get it on steam and finish it
or stop in the last level

OMFG i forgot all about this games exsistence. Must find and play now...

Jagged Alliance 2. I rock the tactical combat but I can never wrap my head around the world map management parts and end up getting crushed there.

Vagrant Story and Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne. :/

I will get around to finishing VG some day though, since I can
download it from the PSN.

Kingdom Hearts 2, I absolutely loved this game, it's definitely one of my top five PS2 games, quit right before the last boss, haven't gone back since.

Mass Effect 2, another really great game, finished all the loyalty missions and haven't put the game back in my 360 since.

God, this thread is starting to make me hate myself even more for not finishing.
