Your Favorite Intense Moments in Games

The Lich King fight in Wotlk was definitely one of those moments for me. Pure intensity. And the unexpected turn the battle takes at the end completely blew my mind. The battle was the culmination of so much hard toil, both literal, and in the story, and it really felt like a victory. Then the whole
'You will not be forgotten, old friend." ... "I MUST be forgotten, Tirion! If the world is to live free from the tyranny of fear, they must not know what was done here today." as Bolvar takes up the mantle of the Lich King
... it felt truly epic.

Another mention for Mass Effect 1's whole final section, too. That was seat-of-the-pants stuff.

Edit: More recently, getting the 'Device Has Been Modified' potato in Audiosurf. The run where I actually, finally, cracked that gold medal, I was one with the blocks; a being of pure music and reflex. :lol

Never has hitting the X button meant so much!

The Realm Online

Anyone here play that back in the 90s, before UO even? This MMO was awesome, truly a player driven community. My most intense moments, and forgive me if I sound like a complete troll, were basically ripping people off in this game. I would steal from people a lot, by fooling them into bad trades ("trade windows" didn't exist back then), go invisible, hide behind that infamous bush outside of player houses, wait for players to open their front door, sneak in, and steal everything inside. The game is still operational today, but it's nothing like what it use to be. I would do anything to play that game again back in the mid 90s.

I know, I sound like the worst person on the internet right now, but this type of experience just doesn't exist in games anymore. Well, maybe in EVE Online, but I've yet to have the time to compete with the learning curve of that game.

fire demon boss in demon souls was the most intense moment in gaming I've EVER had. when I beat him, I felt like the air in the room gushed back in / my blood went back to my head. RUSSSH.

Half-Life dam scene.

You are running across and there is a attack choppa strafing your ass.

Oh shit! Who is this bitch? That does it, I'm going in.

Gahhh!!!

And then you are on the other side, making your way though the cliffs while a chopper pursues you from above.

1) Warthog escape in Halo CE

2) Microwave scene in MGS4

3) Final climb in PoP: FS

4) First village level in RE4

5) Full 5 hours of Vanquish

oh, also that bit in Fatal Frame 2 where (about halfway through?)

the ghost with the broken back falls down the stairwell behind you

aarghh that bit was awesome. i loved that game.

The microwave scene in MGS4 is lame. Even if you can die, it doesn't seem like you can and thus there is no tension.

Anyway, The series of Anubis fights in ZoE 2. All the build up from the first game and armed with Zero shit, it's a pretty intense battle. Especially with all that shit going on.

I loved that moment. The scenes plus the music... so awesome. One of the best parts in MGS4

Nah just cool to watch. Like most of MGS4 *trollface*

Loved MGS4

Whenever people talk about how much they hate MGS4 I just think of this scene and wonder how it's possible to hate the game.

Pretty easy actually. In other playthroughs I can only laugh in how the Mk 2 is just rolling around fine while Snake is being put through all that.

But, yeah don't see whats so great about that part. It's so tension-less that it might as well be another cutscene. And if it was, I already wouldn't care.

Nothing specific, but no game in recent history has felt as intense to me as narrow escapes in L4D and L4D2. Heartbeat pounding, screen grayed out and a horde of zombies on your tail. Trying to decide if you should go back and help people up or run for the safe room. No game has had the effect on me that L4D has.

The Antlion Holdout in Ep. 2 comes to mind in single player terms.

I will say though... attacking or holding down a base when your tickets are almost all drained in Bad Company 2 is amazing.

The amtopshere the game creates with its visual and godlike sound... and my personal favorite feeling... mowing down endless hordes of enemies by an M-COM station. Running out of your clip, switching quickly to pistol, yelling out a war cry and keep valiantly spamming that pistol against all odds.

Goddamn I love it when it happens.

Stop quoting Snake's buttcheeks
was thinking the same thing, thought i was crazy for being the only one noticing

and uh as for me...

RE4's first village, those molotov coctails appeared from nowhere!!

Any end boss in FFXI. Shadow Lord, Dynamis Lord, The Brother, Promathia, Sky Gods the first time, so on. Good shit.

GT5 + G25 + Nurburgring + Night time + Rain + High powered car = HOLY SHIT!

Can't get more intense then that. Will make you sweat like a pig.

I've had so many intense gaming moments in my life... but I'm pretty sure my answer for this would be something out of Demon's Souls.

Anytime when you beat a boss with just a sliver of health while they had considerably more health than you. You just feel like the fucking man after that shit.

When you summon up the power of the God Hand.

The battle against Red in Pokemon Gold/Silver.

That final run in Radiant Dawn with your team of uber slaughterers. Fucking Nephenee forever motherfuckers.

I don't think anything tied my stomach up in knots more than the end of the Amnesia DLC that came out for the Valve Potato ARG. I definitely need to play the full game (when the mood is right).

RE4 - When you approach the village for the first time, fighting the sea creature, so many!
Bayonetta - The boss battles!
DQVIII- The Final Battle was pretty intense
MGS2- The strange transmission part
MGS3- Motorbike chase
Mass Effect 2- Approaching the collector ship at the end.

Must have HUD OFF. INTENSE (787b in the rain, at night, in the ring, NO HUD. Ultimate video game RUSH)

Not so much intense as just completely awesome...

Last night was playing the gears of war 3 beta with one of the level designers from Epic (friend of mine) and i killed all 5 people on the other team with 1 grenade. i was giddy as a school girl. the guy from Epic proceeded to laugh his ass off at me and then quietly said he was glad his work could make me so happy. i owe the guy a beer at the very least.

Recently I've had some incredibly tense races in Ridge Racer 7. A.I. is a pain in the ass in that game.

Challenge Room 6 in Vanquish. Holy shit. I will never be able to beat it, but that room is the definition of fucking intense.

Every 5 seconds in Demon's Souls is more intense than any 5 random games' entire campaigns combined.

EDIT: And the Cabin in Resident Evil 4. I only played the game for a few hours and didn't like it, but holy shit that was one of the most amazing sections of any game I've played.

SotC when you're on the head of a colossus and it's trying to shake you off. something about those glowing lifeless eyes and the primitive sense of panic that's incredibly intense and creepy. by this i mean awesome
