Your favorite little details in The Witcher 3

One detail I thought was amazing was from a quest from Heart of Stone. You come across this empty village with only an old couple sitting in the porch of their house. [...]
Investigation quests that don't solve themselves are by far the expansion's best new feature. Having to think for a moment about the clues you're gathering (as opposed to mindlessly following a glowing red trail and radar blips) felt really refreshing... which is actually kind of sad and it reflects poorly on the base game's design.

Although in general I absolutely hated horses in the game, because of how they would just randomly run the wrong direction or stop randomly for no reason.

two things were cool with horses.
1: When ever you leave roach for a period of time, if you return to the area that you left roach, he wont be there, instead he would have sauntered off to the nearest bucket of food or water or will be just haning out with other horses in the area.

2: There is a quest where a farmer says he has a old grey horse that was stolen by some dirty elves. You go to find the elves and whatever happens you are able to take back a horse to the farmer. I got the discription of the horse wrong and brought back a black stallion instead of his old grey horse.. The farmer was like... well, this isn't my horse, but it looks like this horse is young and strong, here's twice the pay.

SOooooooo I basically failed the quest, brought back the wrong horse but was rewarded doubly... I was shocked. Any other game would have me take back the incorrect horse to the theives and return with the right one.

You start talking to them, and immediately they seem kinda weird. You ask where is the rest of people and they say they just vanished. At that point the game tells you to go back to who gave you the mission, but since I thought there was something off, I sneaked into this people's house. I was thinking I'd find a book or something interesting, but turns out that I found the entrance to their basement, where there's a bunch of human corpses and meat laying around. I go out and confront the couple, and they ask for forgiveness. These fuckers were cannibals.
This blew my mind; the game acknowledging I went my own path to look for answers instead of simply going by what the mission was telling me to do.

I knew something was off about them! I tried looking around for more clues but couldn't find a way into their place. I'm gonna go back and see if I can.

" woah woah Stop flexing like that you're making me nervous"

Amazingly memorable and funny NPC chatter/voice acting.Staggering variety and expressiveness of NPC faces.

Is that Bear school Gear? Looks sweet. I might get that school hunt for my next newgame+ playthrough.

nah it's called Freya's Warrior armor, not sure where I got it, but I'm at the point where I'm just wearing whatever I think looks nice even if the stats are a little worse because it doesn't make that big a difference. I do want to check out the Wolf school armor though since I haven't seen that in game yet.

Ha! That's good.

I made sure to bring back the old grey horse because I thought the farmer was so attached to it.

Seriously? You sure those aren't the flocks of birds that are always there, day and night? Because this would be insane for me if true (I survey for bats irl).

Double checked; they're birds. Sorry :(

This is by far my favorite feature, and the one that should be of highest priority for Elder Scrolls VI.

It adds so much immersion to be able to hang out in a warm inn with candles lit, bustling citizens, and music, while seeing a thunderstorm rage outside.

Really glad I'm not the only one that loves that in games!

That was my favorite quest in W3, I think...
I had a feeling something was up but I sort of kept progressing the quest, and it just concluded... I sort of trusted the 'on-rails' typical nature of questing so I just sort of went with it after exploring for 15m or so. But it concluded and I said, F-that... There's gotta be something more, so I reloaded my save and said, damn it, there's gooooootta be something here ! and I kept digging around until I find the secret.
Was a pretty awesome moment... probably my single favorite moment in the game, even more than most of the story. Or at least up there with the Baron arc for me, and that 'Cat school Witcher' one.

Yeah agreed. Kinda disappointing that there aren't more moments like that in the main game though.

I liked the way Geralt starts talking to the goat once he finds it.

"Bear! Bear! Run you stupid piece of shit!" The delivery of this line just kills me. lol

"You're no Roach, but I bet we could be friends in time. You've got that all-important quality every Roach has to have, you don't talk much."

Good call, this was truly laugh-out-loud funny.

Man, these lines were great. Chuckle just thinking about them.

Not really a minor detail but I loved how intimidating the Hunt's leaders/soldiers' designs were.

Amazing game, finished it yesterday

That's absolutely incredible.

Haha, I just remembered something cool related to that moment I posted:

When you kill the cannibals, you loot the old man and he has a meat item the game describes as "suspicious meat" or something like that IIRC.

haha I was rewatching some of my playthrough vids trying to find that other quest, and I just came across another DLC story quest
recruit the dwarf for the heist
and forgot how funny some of that dialogue is... geralt says, you know what, you're right... "you're fucked." =p
and tells him to go ahead and commit suicide

https://youtu.be/pg3AXLH-pCM?t=469

"no balls. forgot them somewhere."

man now I really want to start a NewGame+ again =p

I remember I did a kill the monsters in a settlement so the villagers made a settlement there, then a random NPC girl asked me to look for her husband/boyfriend, I searched the place near to the settlement and found him dead, killed by a pack of wolves.

I killed them of course and told the NPC he died, she was sad about the news and the quest was complete, I was about to ride Roach when the girl started moving. I thought "oh, okay she will randonly moves around the settlement" but nope!! She started moving towards the place where Gerald found the dead body of his boyfriend/husband and started crying there.

I honestly think Geralt is one of my favorite protagonists in any game. Like you guys said, his semi-emotionless demeanor mixed in with his humor and line delivery make for some hilarious lines. Some of my favorites are definitely that goat quest. Clearing the rats out of the granary with Triss had a gem too:

"Master monster slayer in the world's largest city, looking for rat shit...geez..."

And the imp contract in Novigrad when you first talk to the contract writer:

"Sure you got an imp problem? Or is that an imp...erfection in the notice...?" -Geralt the Wise Ass LOL.

He's a bit of a Mary Sue/James Bond, but it totally works in the context of the world they've presented. It stops just short of making the world revolve around him and goes out of its way to make people actually hate him, so he remains endearing without being too much of a prick.

His attitude perfectly compliments a game that allows for some player choice in how to handle things, because you can easily see him being a dick in some situations while being altruistic in others.

The way an entire forest moves in the wind during a storm. Also the sun just drenching the land scape in color during a sun set.

I found it hilarious that in this town whose residents were turned into pigs via a curse, the "townspeople" were just chilling in their homes as if they were still human.

I do miss this one from TW2: "Why does he have two swords? Does he tend to lose 'em?"

It's still there actually. I just launched the game again just to stroll, thanks to this amazing thread, and just heard a little girl say this exact line outside Oxenfurt, near the Novigrad Gate.

You just ruined the mission I am on right now. I am literally on their steps where I saved earlier today because I had to run some errands.

:(

Storms look incredible in this game with the vegetation swaying. Best sunsets and I've ever seen a game too.
Shame about the shitty looking rain and lightning though.

Water also looks weak, but I still dig the overall presentation too much for it to bother me.

As dumb as it is, the first time I encountered a whale in the middle of nowhere is one of the greatest moment i've ever had in gaming

One thing that I actually didn't even know was in the game and just stumbled upon

Tyrion from Game of Thrones in his sky cell. I didn't realize it was him at first then it all made sense after a few seconds. Such an awesome easter egg.

Came in to post this. The whole island was really cool- especially the look of the prison as you approached it from the south in a boat.

I only ever see their tails. :( I've tried diving after them many times, but by the time Geralt lifts his ass and jumps off the boat, the whales are long gone.
As such, Ass Creed Black Flag is a more reliable open world whale watching simulator.

Actually it's not that dumb... I can relate, and not just with Witcher 3, either. One of the best moments I had in GTA V was sailing with Michael... up by Chumash. And as I'm going, suddenly I notice seagulls flying alongside the mast. With the sun high, the beautiful waves, seagulls flying alongside me... was just sort of bliss. Had a similar moment first time I encountered an orca. Was rather quite a while after PS4 release (I didn't particular try to find them) and it actually scared me a little. I heard one while I was diving and it scared the F out of me. I was already a bit nervous about sharks. Then I saw the orca and I was just sort of, wow.... sublime.

I haven't had the same boating moment in Witcher 3, but I've had moments like that with birds flying or something. Such as after a real hard fight that just perfectly ends where you barely survive, and right as you pan the camera after the fight, a flock of birds fly up into the air. I could fully relate to seeing a whale in Witcher 3. Actually, I'm not sure I even have yet haha I never spent that much time boating around Skellige (I was a bit more fond of Velen).

In my current save I'm past Bloody Baron quest line but I stopped playing for a number of months due to other games/commitments and now I'm getting the itch again to finally finish it. Should I just start fresh or try to pick up from where I left off?

Probably pick up where you left off if you're not sure. There's a good case to start over but I think it's only a good case if you don't have to ask that question -- meaning, you're so motivated that you're 100% sure you feel like restarting. If you're sort of unsure, I'd just try continue your past file to make sure you avoid burning out a 2nd time. I was actually in the same situation. I sort of burnt out after the Baron and Novigrad, and took a bit of a break between there and Skellige. I didn't feel it hurt the story that much because the game does sort of have a nice chapter design with a lot of small side stories.

Remember it gives you a recap of the most recent very important plot point on the loading screen.

Just keep going.

Reminds me of when I shopped a rally car into Witcher 3. Not totally sure why I did that.

Oh my, I would pay big bucks for some Dirt Rally: Tameria DLC. Codemasters and CD Projekt make this happen!

" Left four tightens to three drowners outside. Don't Cut."

But I was told all the story in this game is in your face and everything is laid bare in front of you with quest markers.
