With the summer almost over and the cold weather ready to set in, what are some of your favorite albums that are best listened to during the winter?

Although pretty recent, one that I've been listening to since the year it came out is James Blake's self-titled

Everything about the minimal, melancholic, introspective songs Blake composes are best heard in the comfort of your house in all isolation while you're closed in from the snow.

I also enjoy shoegaze more during the winter, like Souvlaki for example.

My go to winter band is Trans-Siberian Orchestra. From their rock songs to story stuff, I love their work.

There's also a Bethoven album too.

Edit, guess I should pick an album. Christmas Eve and Other Stories, mainly because of the song, "Old City Bar," which gets me every time.

Five-hour, ten-part collaboration led and arranged by Sufjan Stevens with likely the most musical diversity of any release. Stevens dances through a dozen or more genres, and while many of the songs are a bit fluffy or extraneous, many are incredible.

Sister Winter is a favorite. The twenty-something interpretations of traditional Christmas songs are often really beautiful.

Agalloch - Marrow of the Spirit. Fav. Track: Black Lake Nidstang

If I had to pick one, yeah it would probably be this.

I also really like In the Nightside Eclipse by Emperor, Hvis Lyset Tar Oss by Burzum, and Bergtatt – Et Eeventyr I 5 Capitler by Ulver. And all other black metal. Black metal is best winter music.

Ay get the fuck out of my head.

I entered this topic thinking about the James Blake album. I don't even enjoy that album if it's your outside; it has to be at the very least cool or rainy.

That's really weird. <_<

I agree with Blake's self titled album.

Another album is Daughter's If You Leave. Now granted it only came out last February and thus hasn't been heard during the peak of winter, it is tailor made for the Winter.

I enjoyed Ravedeath, 1972 and Virgins by Tim Hecker too. Ambient and ominous drone music that still sounds haunting.

OK Computer for some reason. Maybe it's because I first listened to it around Christmas time. Also, Contra by Vampire Weekend, it's Christmassy.

Not really a fan of the style of music, but for some reason I always play the self-titled Wintersun album during the first snowfall of every year.

Doesn't really match the surrounding atmosphere, but it stuck for some reason.
