Your favourite gaming series

During my childhood it was Zelda. A Link to the Past and Ocarina of Time were my GOATs and consumed my life.

In high school it was Final Fantasy. VII was my first RPG ever and I loved it. VIII was terrible, but IX was my GOAT and FFT my #2 for a good 10 years.

Now it's Souls and nothing else is remotely close.

I probably would have said Fallout before Fallout 4 released.

That's likely been knocked down to the 3 or 4 spot

Resident Evil
Rockstar Games and mostly their GTA games I suppose
Fallout or Left 4 Dead

There are so many for me, I've been a life long gamer and a collector for atleast 27 ish years, since I was old enough to pickup extra work and pay for my own gaming stuff really. I guess I'm getting pretty close to 1000 games and I much prefer physical media, lots of Ikea shelving has made this possible haha. See the "Show us your gaming setup: 2017 Edition" around page 14 I think, to see my current setup.

My main gaming series is Final Fantasy, I have a Final Fantasy VII themed tattoo sleeve complete with Cloud, his wolf and a bunch of summons, Shiva, Ifrit, Ramuh and Bahamut. My brother rented it on a visit over to my moms one time and as soon as I put it in I was hooked, I'd never played anything like it, I was probably about 18 or so.

After the week long rental was up, I returned my brothers rental and went out and bought my own copy, for the rest of the summer I played non-stop, I eventually would go on to do everything you could do in that game, beat the extra monsters, breed a gold Chocobo, I put in well over 99+ hrs into it and have loved the series ever since, going back to old games in the series and discovering new ones as they came out.

It definitely opened up the world of RPG gaming to me, which would become my fav genre of gaming as it stands.

It's not exactly a game series, but the Zachtronic puzzlers all share core concepts and iterate on the previous. Any new one is an instant purchase

The Elder Scrolls, easily. I'm a big fantasy nerd, and no other game series touches the immersion that TES gives me every single time. I like Wacraft, Dragon Age and the Witcher series, but TES will always be on top for me.

3D Mario games.

Those games are IMHO, the absolute definition of videogames. They are fun, challenging, charming and just really really good overall. So of course I'm now super looking forward to Mario Odyssey.

Wario Ware series.

I love games that are just straight up fun, that doesn't take themselves seriously and just focus on gameplay... and if you add some bizarre concepts and wacky but likeable characters to the mix, the result is the Wario Ware series. I continue playing all of them up to this day. WW: Twisted is my absolute favorite, I even bought a GBA SP years ago just to play that game. I also have the original game, Touched!, Smooth Moves and even Game and Wario on Wii U wich I bought when it came out and I payed $50 for it and I don't regret it. I just don't know why I love this series so much, I simply feel at home when I'm playing them y'know??

It fucking sucks we're probably never going to get a new entry. A new game on the Switch would be absolutely amazing thanks to the ton of features the console has so that devs can go nuts on making the most bizarre but fun micro-games. Sigh :'(

Final Fantasy without a doubt. Played my first when I was young and never experienced a game with a story and presentation quite liked it and it influenced my gaming hobby since. It influenced me beyond that. I decided to work in the game industry because of it and that shaped the whole course of my life.

It was Pokémon but Game Freak already ruined it, so... Probably Sonic. There are bad games for sure, but bad games don't retroactively ruin the good ones like in Pokémon.

Also Sonic was my first game so I will always love it.

There are plently, but the most recent addition is the Trails/Kiseki series.

It didn't click immediately. With the localisation efforts put into Trails in the Sky SC, it made me want to retry that series.

Now after finishing Zero and Azure I can safely I'm into the deep end of loving it all.

My avatar is also from that series. Richard is quite the character :).

Mega Man all the series (Classic, X, Zero, ZX, Battle Network, Starforce, Legends) I have not disliked a Mega Man game wholeheartedly but X7 came pretty close. After that it is Musou/Warriors series. Third would be Fire Emblem. Honorable mention is the Bravely Default series though only two games I just love them so much.

Ace Attorney. Hands down. So good.

And it's to a point where I play it whenever I get anxious. It's saved me from my anxiety more times that I can remember.

I've played it everyday for the last 7 years, more or less.

Final Fantasy

- Great stories.
- Amazing characters.
- Fun gameplay.
- Incredible Soundtracks.
- cool enemies design.
- Nice graphics.
- The feeling of adventure it's just wonderful.
- My childhood makes this games even better.

This saga brings me a lot of great nostalgia and happiness and i don't mind critics I really like 12, 13 and 15 too.

Other sagas i love are Chrono (Trigger, Cross), Castlevania, Resident Evil, Silent Hill, Persona, The King of Fighters, Mario, Metroid, The Legend of Zelda, etc.

Metal gear solid, it's not the best game of all time, but it's the best series of all time because all of it's games are masterpieces

my favorite game of all time is Resident evil 4, but the series has fucked up in the last decade until Resident evil 7

soulsborne games are masterpieces to me, Demon's souls, Dark souls 1 and Bloodborne were masterpieces, Dark souls 2 was okay, Dark souls 3 was trash, you see, not the entire series is perfection like MGS

Kingdom Hearts. A masterpiece. Though, I do call Nomura out when he changes the plot. Also, Disney holds him back, which has caused things to be altered either by them outright telling him or he's conscious of what not to do, which is hypocritical considering the equivalent is in the Disney movies.

Phantasy Star (the classic, offline, turn-based games) and Dragon Quest are my absolute favorites. Some others that are up there are Ys, Castlevania, Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Mega Man, Wild Arms, Suikoden, SMT, Persona, the Genesis Sanics, Legend of Heroes, Wipeout, Ultima, Star Ocean, Wonder Boy, KOF, Smash Bros, Project Diva. FF would have been on the list 10-15 years ago but the quality is so spotty lately.

Pokemon
Been a fan since RB came out, I took a break for GBA years but I bought them a few years ago and I buy every game that came out since DS as well.

Kingdom Hearts
Bought a PS2 for this, was a fan of FF back in the day and I thought FF + Disney would be awesome, and it was. I have every game,.

Final Fantasy
I own every main title.

Metal Gear Solid
Always been amazing.

Uncharted
Got me into western games, and was the start of my enjoyment of cinematic experiences.

Super Smash Bros.
I had a weird relationship with this, never owned N64 but played with cousins through the GC days. I was really hyped for Wii one but it didn't deliver, but I have always held this series close to me. I loved the WiiU/3DS version.

Zelda
I'm not a huge fan but I bought most of the modern games. That Nintendo magic.

EverQuest - First MMO I ever played. Was brutal, had no clue what I was doing most of the time to start, and was very addicting. A lot of great memories.

Settlers - In Settlers II I loved the slower pace and being able to build the economy. Probably my favorite strategy game ever.

Mass Effect - Love the lore and the universe. Enjoyed doing everything possible in the games. One of the few series I'll replay for the story.

Galactic Civilizations - My favorite 4x series. Have put thousands of hours into GalCivII.

Final Fantasy - First JRPG I ever played was FFIX. Fell in love with it and got me into playing other RPGs.

It has been Zelda, it has been Pokémon, and it has been Metal Gear Solid, but currently, there isn't one. So many of the more recent Zelda and Pokémon games I've considered to be "only" good, and I do not like the structure of Peace Walker or MGSV very much.

Breath of the Wild was the most refreshing game I've played in a very long time, however, so if the next one or two Zelda games manage to impress and surprise me in the same vein, Zelda might make it back to a definitive #1 spot. If we get more Triforce Heroes instead, nah.

AssCreed, without a doubt. I love the historical tourism aspect and it's for this reason I actually prefer icon bloat in the games. Give me a 100 or a million collectables, I don't care. Any excuse to run around the place will do. I adore the busywork.

Apparently, I've spent almost 1,000 hours with the mainline series thus far. That includes Rogue but not Liberation HD as I've not finished the latter. I was close back when it launched but lost my save thanks to GameSaveManager -- ironic, I know -- and my attempts to start anew have fallen flat due to how utterly dull it is. Anywho, needless to say, I'm very much looking forward to Origins and pre-ordered the Gold Edition on Steam the moment it went up.

Metroid (My favorite Series)
Metal Gear Solid (Love the gameplay and craziness to the stories)
The Elder Scrolls (Exploration gold)
Mass Effect (The original trilogy, great characters and settings)
Dragon Age (Yea even 2 I like, same as Mass Effect good characters and settings.)
The Legend of Zelda (Although I didn't love skyward sword or twilight princess the Link between worlds, BOTW and Windwaker are some of my favorite games.)
The mainline Super Mario Games (Always seem to nail platforming gold.)
Wolfenstein and Doom games (Best FPS games in my opinion.)

Those are the series that usually have games I either love or like.

Tie.

Elder Scrolls for Morrowind, Oblivion and ESO and Skyrim I guess somewhere...

Dark Souls. The combat, challenge, Pvp and setting will.l always be close to my heart.

Halo. Nothing compares to it. I can still play any campaign (yeah 5, included) and enjoy it like a lot.
And then good ol FIFA. So many years with beers, friends and laughs.

Metal Gear (favourite overall) - Play it for the craziness of the story and the fun gameplay with cool systems in place. Bought a PS2 for MGS2 and a PS3 for MGS4. Favourite is MGS2.

Metroid - Love the atmosphere of these games and the idea of exploring alien planets. The gameplay is top notch as well. I prefer 2D Metroid to Prime but Prime is still fantastic. Favourite is Zero Mission.

Ninja Gaiden - Both the 2D and 3D games are great but the 3D ones (not counting everything after 2) are especially good. Features insanely satisfying melee combat. Favourite is Black but NG2 might have my favourite melee combat of any game.

Deus Ex - Cyberpunk might be my favourite setting. Love the world this series is set in with government agencies, secret societies, and conspiracy theories. Favourite is the original Deus Ex by quite a large margin.

Max Payne - Film noir meets John Woo and it's awesome. From the amazing dialogue inside Max Payne's head to the satisfying third person gunplay based around bullet time. Favourite is the original Max Payne but Max Payne 3 is the most satisfying third person shooter I've played.

Metal Gear. Nothing like it. Despite MGS1 essentially being a 3D remake of MG2, and MGS2 being a simulation of MGS1, no two games are remotely alike, and each game is wildly different from the last.

After that, Resident Evil and Mass Effect.

The Legend of Zelda. Bioshock, Kirby, Professor Layton and Team Ico in general
Those are the five franchises that make me turn my head if you say "oh theres a new proyect from X franchise happening".

Dragon Quest is my absolute favorite. When I was a child I saw my cousin play Dragon Warrior on his NES, and he showed me his big brother's notes on the game as well as the map and enemy information he had, and it blew me away that there were games like that -- games that made you take notes, games that seemed that big, that challenged you intellectually rather than primarily reflexively. I got a copy myself and didn't get anywhere, being too young, but I enjoyed it. Fast forward some years and I was gifted some Game Boy games, including Dragon Warrior Monsters. I realized that it was the same series and I absolutely fell in love with Monsters. That same cousin got the game too and some of my best gaming memories are of us playing our separate games, combining monsters and showing each other the result. I put tons of hours into DWM and after that I started accumulating lots of DQ games and the rest is history. That series is basically comfort food for me. It's familiar and friendly. It also defined my interest in fantasy and medievalism, which is now my academic focus.

Kingdom Hearts

None of the games are in my top 5, but compared to other series like Kid Icarus, Bravely Deafult, or Xenoblade with not many games KH has a lot of games that I love.

No other series has been consistently good or as enjoyable as Kingdom Hearts. I had no qualms buying KH 1 and 2 a second time on PS3 for final mix, and would have gladly bought them a third time if I had a PS4 for 1.5+2.5

someone buy me a PS4 so im not isolated from the series as a switch owner :(

My absolute favorite which is still alive:
- Final Fantasy

What I really like and follow a lot:
- Silent Hill
- Suikoden
- Star Ocean
- Danganronpa
- Ace Attorney
- Kingdom Hearts
- Monkey Island
- King's Quest
- Mother
- Parasite Eve

I also like but I'm not as invested:
- Resident Evil
- Persona
- Dragon Quest
- Chrono (is this even a series? There's like only 2 official games, 3 if you count the VN thing)
- Ys
- Mana

Mass Effect stands as the series which shown me that videogames were trascending what other mediums achieved, even after the ending of 3 and Andromeda disasters.

I also developed a love for Halo, curiously centered on Reach and Halo 4 (without a doubt the most maligned pair of the saga). I am very interested in the lore of the franchise, even after the mistakes of Halo 5.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is so monumental that it invested me in its world. I love the Max Payne and Elder Scrolls settings.

Besides those stories, I love Forza as a technically evolving series.
