I'm pretty sure I started with the first one and then GTA 2 soon after. I do remember playing London too. Never beat any of them but had fun driving around and using cheat codes. Vice City was already released when I got PS2 so it was my first next-gen GTA. I got 3 some time after but it didn't impress me much after VC. I have started to appreciate it more in recent years.

GTA 1 on PC in 1997.
I still remember how funny the cops were. Love it from the beginning and GTA was always a part in my life.

I had an internet café in the 2000s, and a lot of people played GTA 3 and Vice City, usually just driving around and killing people. I never really liked those games.

But when GTA San Andreas came out, I thought, "Let's see what the fuss is about." Man, it was the best GTA ever.

GTA 1 on PS, but I was young and didnt really do missions or anything, never finished the top-down ones. GTA 3 was the first one I played "properly"

I remember playing III and Vice City around 2004-2005 when I was 10ish years old.

Then I asked my dad for San Andreas and he bought it for me.

Then on launch day of IV I wanted it and my dad went to several stores and eventually found it instock at Argos and got it for me.

Then I got V myself the day it came out as I had just turned 18 and able to buy it myself.

Great memories all round with these games. This time i'm going to buy VI for my dad at launch as I know he won't buy it himself until discounted.

GTA 3 on PS2 was my first experience with the series. Kids were talking about it at school and it was mind-blowing.

My brother and I somehow convinced our mom to get a copy while at the mall.

Wow, this brings back memories.

Oh, it's been a long time. I thought you just dived in, got cash, and left again. Maybe I'm wrong.
The missions did work differently since you just picked up payphones and were thrown right into the mission.

You also could make money by just blowing and killing stuff, it worked more like a point system than actual money you picked up on the ground like the 3D games.

GTA I leading the poll.

This place is fucking Jurassic Park. Bunch of old men living in the past.

GTA III for me.

GTA 2 on PC when I was a kid

Game was too difficult for me, but I remember driving over the Elvis crews, and collecting power-ups that made you invincible, and I also remember finding a tank somewhere hidden and then parking a dozen cars to drive over them with the tank, but the story missions were always too tough for me at that age, couldn't do it

Mine was Vice City, loved the game, the music, characters and 80's vibe, flying choppers all over the place, then i played GTA 3, and a lot of what was in VC was missing, so i never liked 3, i should of played them the other way round, then came San Andreas, still the best one for me.

GTA1. My neighbour lent me this when I was about 10. Looking at it now it looks so shit but at the time it was incredible. Unlike anything I had ever played and obviously way too old thematically for me. This and FF7 releasing close together on PS1 I remember very well. Good times. I'm playing 5 now again in preparation and it is still incredible.

I felt like some sneaky in the know kid. I had gta 1 physically on pc at 16 years old when it came out. I still like the top down ones more than the 3d games. We have tons of similar feeling 3d games.

I was aware of the existence of GTA 1 and 2 only because I saw reviews in magazines and the cases on the shelves in shops. Didn't interest me in the slightest. Seriously the first time I saw a GTA 1 screenshot I thought maybe it was Rally X 2000 or something.

I remember when GTA 3 released and took over the world over night. I thought the 3D open world tech was amazing, but the game itself still didn't interest me. My best friend pretty much literally forced me to borrow his copy, promising that if I just tried it I'd love it. I played it for about three or four hours. I didn't love it.

Just kept ignoring GTA over years. Had a bit of a wake up call when San Andreas swept all of the 2004 GotY polls. I knew it was a popular franchise but didn't realize it was bigger than Halo/Half Life/MGS/Metroid Prime combined. Still didn't give a shit, chalked it up to the same human condition that causes hundreds of millions of people to buy Britney Spears CDs etc.

When Read Dead Redemption released, I caught a lot of people saying "Even you hate GTA, you should try RDR. It's one of the best games ever made and it's really nothing like GTA at all." I decided to try it, and sure enough I loved it. A little later, I caught other people basically saying, "Wtf is this crap about RDR being nothing like GTA? IT'S EXACTLY LIKE GTA. It's basically GTA4 set in the old west." It is? Well then shit, I need to play GTA4! I think that was actually the first digital console game I ever bought, GTA4 on 360. I played it up to the point where you get the second safe house and stopped there for some reason, even though from what I recall I was enjoying it. Months later, LA Noire released and I played that and loved it. Somehow that was what triggered me to go back and start over with GTA3, finish it, play through Vice City, play through San Andreas, and then finally go back and finish GTA 4. After that, I was pretty much as big of a GTA fan as the next dude.

Anyway, my first GTA was RDR1.

GTA1 I remember playing the demo to death and then I got the full game Xmas eve

A friend of mine came over and would... not.... leave.... we just played it all night causing mayhem and swapping once we died I had to ask him to go home about 20 to midnight because it was almost Christmas! (he lived a couple of houses down the street)
