• Hey Guest. Check out your NeoGAF Wrapped 2025 results here!

your GAME OF THE GEN thus far.

Wow hard..I would say galaxy..but I think it shouldnt really be considered next gen because its gameplay is still pretty traditional.

I will go with Little Big Planet..mainly because the game is different then anything else out there.

Super Mario Galaxy

Console? Super Mario Galaxy.

PC, since the beginning of the current console gen? The Witcher or NWN2 Mask of the Betrayer.

Do you mean that Witcher/NWN2 Mask of the betrayer would beat SMG in your eyes? Or are you only drawing a line between console and PC?

super freaking mario galaxy.

everytime i play this game it blows me away like it's the first time.

(and TF2..it convinced me to play online games :lol)

Team Fortress 2 made this an easy pick.

If TF2 didn't exist, i don't think i would be able to choose between Left4Dead, Portal, or Super Mario Galaxy.

Just separating 'em. They're wildly different experiences anyway, if I put them in order it wouldn't matter.

Phoenix Wright: Trials and Tribulations

Super Mario Galaxy is a close runner-up.

Super Mario Galaxy and Uncharted for me. Although I have still to play NWN: MotB and if it's like Planescape as they say it is, it will be my game of the forever.

LittleBigPlanet.

And the great part is there is things (hinted at) in the future that will change the game drastically.

I can never not smile while playing this game.

Super Mario Galaxy is so far ahead of the pack that it's almost sad. There's no runner up, no honorable mentions, and no other game that's even in the same league as Galaxy. Every other game is competing for second place at this point.

This. An astounding piece of software.

The 1st Gears of War..still. Admittedly, there's a lot of stuff I have yet to play though. Mostly on the PS3.

Crackdown, if only for the perfect execution and amazing ability to astound in the unscripted moments of chaos...

its creation tools may be different than anything else out there but i'd say that the gameplay itself is just as "traditional" as mario galaxy's.

Galaxy, Uncharted, GTAIV.

I know that's 3 but I just couldn't leave one of them out :(

edit: but ok my vote goes to Uncharted for the sake of being a new franchise.

That's his opinion. It's a mixed bag for some. You can't deny it's appeal though. Look at those new Ragdoll Kung Fu skins coming this week and tell me they don't want to make you go buy kittens for dinner?

Kittens to pet of course.

i think that little big planet is inarguably inventive, but it's core-gameplay mechanic isn't that fundamentally different than the 2D tried-and-true platformer. to say that mario galaxy doesn't constitute as "next-gen", but little big planet somehow does... it's just a little strange.

Going to have to go with MGS4 its a complete and well polished package. Good single player and good multiplayer.

Super Mario Galaxy

BY FAR! I mean seriously whatever game is in second place would be so far behind galaxy that it's not a competition in the slightest.

I agree there. Mario Galaxy embodies many new game play mechanics. It deserves to be right up there as one of the best games this generation of hardware has had.

the word you're looking for is "dumb"

it's a little dumb

Call of Duty 4

Still the best console online shooter today. You don't have to be super hardcore or part of a clan to have fun, made popular the concept of unlockables in multiplayer FPS, silky smooth framerate, the list goes on and on.
