Your longest time spent on a boss battle

4 Kings in Dark Souls at soul level 1.

Older ones are harder to remember, I know Wizpig was quite tough in Diddy Kong Racing.

I know there's a few boss battles I've spent several hours on if difficult and long, die and have to start over. Don't know the exact times and it's been a while.

I know I had a lot of difficulty off the top with Riku in Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories after Destiny Island (the original Gameboy Advance one) when I was younger, I had a lot of difficulty with the final boss of Silent Hill 3 on Hard combat difficulty with how I played on my first playthrough (had a lot of ammo, almost no healing items). There's definitely more though, and some I have spent more time on, but I'd need to see the game to remember.

I still haven't beaten
Fume Knight
in SotFS. No other DS/DS2 boss gave me much trouble- I even beat
Mytha without burning the windmill/removing the poison
, but
Fume Knight
... ugh. I died for a few hours, quit for PvP for a while, came back, and still just got wrecked over and over again. Although, I didn't know that
you need to save one of the Smelter Wedges
in order to
prevent him from healing during the fight
, which makes it far more difficult. I give it a few more attempts every time I start up the game, but to no avail.

Actually, not sure if it counts as a boss, but the part in GoldenEye where you have to protect Natalya while she hacks a computer, on 007 difficulty, was pretty damn tough. Must have spent days doing it. And I never have beaten the last part of story mode on F Zero GX, on any difficulty.

One I clearly remember was (secret boss from Tales of the Abyss):

ToA_Char_Nebilim01.jpg

Nebilim

I was at level 70~80, and with All-Divide it took me over an hour to beat her in a single fight.

Not counting retries, and it wasn't an official boss battle, but slaying my first Drake in Dragon's Dogma took me the entire in-game night. Felt so accomplished by the end of it though.

What about Yama in Spelunky? Over 200 hours and I still haven't actually killed him. Fuck me. I keep dying to dumb shit after having a really good run. Other than that, Demyx in KH2 I remember being kind of a bitch the first time, but I don't really play a lot of hard games. Revisiting KH2 it's piss easy lol.

For some reason, I will never forget this guy:

I know I fought him when I was not ready for it but I refused to give up. Eventually got him, never had a fight last this long before as he could kill incredibly fast and I think he was even resistant to a lot of things.

The worst for me was probably trying to beat Bison in the original SNES Street Fighter II on the hardest difficulty with Dhalsim. I had beaten him with every other character and I was determined to beat him this time, too. I spent an entire day of my Christmas break trying to beat him (I started at around 9 AM and it was dark outside when I finally won). There were so many instances where I would whittle him down to just a sliver of health and only needed one last hit to win, only to have him come back from the brink and kill me. This was the first game to cause me to break a controller by throwing it on the ground. So. Frustrating.

But this still has to be the worst that I've ever heard of:

Ornstein and Smough is by far the worst bossfight for me. I know there are a lot of tricks to taking them down, but at least for me that fight was a pain. Took me several days and almost gave up the game. Glad I didn't though.

I didn't have much of a problem with Chalice Rom. IIRC there are even pillars where you can hide from her meteor attack?

It was mainly just the unpredictable reach of the small spiders. Something about that boss just completely threw me off my game. I never had a problem with previous souls bosses nor bloodbornes and usually found regular mobs more difficult , but rom just fucked me over so badly

18 Hour boss ? Fuck that.

Another vote for Ornstein and Smough, took me about a week to finally kill them

Though as a child I remember it taking me a month to get to the end boss in DK64, then another month to actually beat the final boss

It''s a 5 part boss battle in a boxing ring, where you have to use all 5 Kongs one after the other, to win 5 rounds, and it had no save or checkpoints

The last punch needed perfect timing and if you missed it was back to the start

Didn't beat this motherfucker for two years.

latest

;)

In the realm of serious answers though, yeah, THE SENATOR. Both normal and DLC versions. Those nanomachines must have been in the Armstrong family for generations...

The final boss battle for Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time took what felt like an hour to finish the fight, and it wasn't just mashing A the entire time, since you had to time your attacks and blocks entire battle too.

I thought of this one too. It's funny how out of all the lengthy RPGs I've played, this one has the boss fight that took the longest. It must have been close to an hour too.

FF7; sephiroths final form, I was way underleveled. Tried for hours. eventually gave up, grinded and kicked his ass.

Also, capra demon in Dark souls.

Dark Souls 2 Dark Lurker on NG+ with melee built. Fuck that...60 tries at least.
This boss
bosses
exposed every flaw the game has.
One hit dark magic attacks with baaad hitboxes, coool!!!

Tossup between one of the recent-ish Tekkens and FF9 final boss when I was super underlevelled and kept retrying.

-might have been ffx, I was young.

Elizabeth Green in Prototype.

Assuming you've leveled up the appropriate skills, know the ins-and-outs of the gameplay, and make intelligent use of military hardware and Devestator attacks, she'll take about forty-five minutes to beat.

2 weeks for the final Bowser fight in Super Mario 64, the boss isn't really difficult but I was only 8 years old.

The ultimate boss appeared in a Souls game,

Man. This fucking asshole took me probably 20 tries on my first playthrough... I got so frustrated I looked up videos of people beating it, and they'd just walk up and hack at him and make it look easy. He was far more aggressive in real life than in the "how to" videos and it just drove me up the fucking wall.

Final Fantasy II
The Emperor
1 hour
I lost

Yeah, I pretty much lost my drive to beat the game after that. That and the stupid leveling system. That was years ago.

The boss fight at the end of the True Demon Ending for SMT Nocturne/Lucifer's Call probably took me a couple of hours to actually get through, as my only real damage dealer was the main character. I think half my game time for DDS2 was grinding up to fight Meganada - that fucking son of a bitch.

Dunno if I was maybe doing it wrong, but I spent months off and on trying to polish off the original Driver end boss.

You had to protect the presidents limo I think?

Never got it done. Got completely pummeled every time.

This guy took way longer than it should have. I spent the best part of day trying to survive and the stubborn part of me wouldn't move on to a different area until I defeated him.

I don't think it counts as a boss but there was this random ass dragon that I fought in Dragons Dogma that was so stupidly powerful it was like 10X harder than the final boss. I must have fought it under leveled or something but I just stumbled onto it in the woods and the ensuing fight took took two attempts but each was over an hour long because the fucking thing had like a million heath and all it ever did was fly around, breath fire and nearly instant kill my party members. It also din't help that a roaming packs of goblins or some shit kept rolling up on us when we were fighting the dragon. By the time I finally beat the bastard I was caked in sweat and felt like I lost ten pounds. I wish I had that shit on video cuz that was easily the hardest fight of my life.

Fume Knight from Dark Souls 2 took me about 3 days to finally beat him. Never been more focused in a boss fight and I had to put the game down for a while after that. Say what you will about Dark Souls 2 but the dlc bosses were something else.

Yep, another vote for Yiazmat in FFXII. How about being able to save during the fight without resetting the enemy's hp? That's how long it could take.

Same here. It looked pretty easy when I watched videos of other people, but it took me a long time to beat her. I also couldn't summon anyone at all, so I had to do it all by myself even when I just didn't want to anymore.

Vicar Amelia took me about 3 hours to beat in Bloodborne. I didn't have that hard a time with the game but this particular boss gave me hell.

Heroic Anub'arak in Trial of the Grand Crusader, which was around 4-6 weeks. That last phase took my guild forever, and a small part of me died every time we wiped at less than 1% remaining HP.

The Fury from MGS3 has to be one of the worst for me. To this day I still haven't figured out a consistant way to beat him, and usually end up dying few times every time I replay the game.

As for bosses I haven't actually beaten, optional end-game bosses from RPGs seem to be my weakness. I've never managed to beat Ruby Weapon from FFVII, Omega Weapon from FFVIII, Penance from FFX or
Elizabeth
from Persona 3.
