Your most hyped game of all time.

A lot of games that I've gotten overly hyped for were disappointments. Grand Theft Auto 4, Resident Evil 5, Twisted Metal (2012), Aliens vs Predator (2010), Street Fighter X Tekken, and I'm sure more if I really think about it. There were some gems though like The Last of Us, Portal 2, Bloodborne, and Bayonetta 2.

Probably Shenmue. I downloaded a gajillion videos of it from IGN, and it looked literally incredible.

I don't typically get that carried away any more, because the games I love to that degree are usually totally out of left field, and I don't know to be hyped for them like that. Sequels are comfortable and comforting and nice, but rarely a revelation.

Metal Gear Solid 4, and most recently MGSV. 4 delivered completely in my mind, while V was kinda eh. The build up to 4 was incredible and made the wait between trailers and info drops unbearable. It was a great time to be in the hype storm from 2004 to 2008. Especially 2006. I've replayed 4 about 10 times now and I still love every second of it. Conversely, I played through V once, truly felt the phantom pain, and haven't touched it in over 9 months. Sadness.

Second place is Final Fantasy XV. I'm a patient man square. This was announced when I was in 9th grade...! Now I've graduated high school, got my bachelors and masters degrees, and have started a full time job in my field... But September 30th will be glorious. I've waited over a decade for this moment.

It would have to be MGS3 for me. First game I ever remember pre-ordering and I bought every VG magazine I could get my hands on that had info on the game.

Dark Souls 2 would be up there too. That reveal with Jessica Alba <3

1. Super Mario Bros. 3
2. Super Mario 64
3. Mario Kart 64 (4 players!!!!)

Even though I have very little love for the system now, I was so hyped for the Nintendo 64 back in the day.

For games that have already released, I'd say:

Doom 3 - This game looked absolutely astounding when it was first shown off in 2002. Light years ahead of anything else graphically at the time, especially with regard to the lighting. I was so hyped I went out and bought an ATI 9700 pro because of Carmack talking about how great it was for Doom 3. Also the only time I attended a midnight release for a game. It was worth it too, the game looked great when I finally got it and was great to play.

Overall though, I think I'm more hyped for Mass Effect: Andromeda, then I have been for any game in the past. It's the first time I'm planning on taking a day off work just to play it upon release.

MGS V definitely. I was so goddamn hyped for that game...all the trailers worked wonders. "the missing link" "completes the MGS saga" "the ultimate story" + the trailers themselves were AMAZING and I thought this game is going to be so good story wise it will transcend the entire genre. The fall of Big Boss. From men to demons. Revenge. Lots of symbolism...oh god what this game could've been. Could've been the best game of all time for me.
I ended up liking the end result, it was just completly different than what I expected.

Sadly, all my high hype experiences have ended terribly.

My top three are probably Halo 3, Gears 2, and Destiny.

Gears 2's online didn't work at all for months after launch and the online portion was the major reason I was hyped in the first place. I was so disappointed. Not only did it literally take 30-40 minutes to get into a match (if at all), once in there the game was often unplayable.

Destiny was just nothing like I expected at all. I thought it was going to have a deep sci-fi story with lots of rewarding exploration in vast varied environments. Story was 2/10, exploration meant nothing, and the environments were lacking in every regard except for the skyboxes. Really, they were used as wide-open lane ways to drive.

Halo 3 met expectations, only issue was that my 360 broke after 3 days of playing.

I don't believe in hype anymore, I've been hurt to many times.
