Your most underrated game ever?

Wonderful 101 thread?

That one has my vote anyway.

Antichamber.

It is literally one of the best games ever made and i've yet to see anyone truly appreciate it as it deserves to be appreciated.

The first one that came to mind at least. Had a blast with this back in 06 and when Rocksteady announced they were doing Batman: AA next, I knew it was going to be great.

sell me on this game

Something always fascinated me about it back in the day, but never enough to get me to purchase it.
It's super cheap now the game is about a detective who gets close to cracking a case then he loses his head you gain new heads which have different abilities and perks attacks etc you should check it out it truly is a unique action adventure game there are boss fights and some weird mini games

Another vote for TW101. So few people realize it's the best action game of all time.

Also, FFT isn't underrated by an stretch of imagination. It's a truly amazing game that is lauded accordingly by press and players. It was also the game that got me into writing FAQs almost 20 years ago.

OK, now I feel ancient.

I loved it, I actually didn't know Rocksteady made it! Yea they definitely have talent.

Totally shrugged it off when it came out back in 2010, but it recently went on sale on Steam for $8.99 so I figured I'd give it a shot since I'm a huge TF fan. Holy smokes was I in for a surprise, not only is it the best transformers game I've ever played, it's a fantastic third person action shooter. Love this game.

Wonderful 101 and Zone of the Enders 2

Especially the latter, such an incredible game. So much could be done with ZOE gameplay wise, it was ahead of its time back then and so much has improved in the character action genre since then. Plus Jehuty and Anubis are two of the best mech designs ever.

It's sad we'll probably never see a sequel now. Thanks again Konami.

I guess it depends on whether it's underrated by people or underrated by the critics. Cause GAF goes on about W101 all the goddamn time, I wouldn't count it.

It's sitting in my Steam library waiting to be played. From what I've seen though it's never been rated poorly but likely underplayed. I was turned on to the game because of the soundtrack and art style.

My pick is Ghostbusters for the Sega Genesis.

A lot of people focus on the negative aspects of this game, and I won't deny that there are a lot of them. But if you can somehow manage to ignore or look past them, you'll find a game that I think is better than Sonic Colors or Sonic Generations. It's got a higher skill ceiling and is really rewarding from a speed run perspective in a way I never felt from either of those two other games.
30 to 40% of Sonic Unleashed is very good. I chose not to finish the game because of the rest. The music is easily my favorite sonic soundtrack and an amazingly fun game soundtrack.

At first glance this looked like it said No More Herpes.

256px-Rocket_Knight_Adventures_North_American_Genesis_box_art.jpg

Anyway, my pick is Rocket Knight Adventures. I recall the homie andymcc saying on here that it was the best gen4 platformer and he might be right. It deserves way more recognition than it got. Unfortunately the sequels didn't have the same magic.

Hey... This is my pick too!

My pick is Ghostbusters for the Sega Genesis.

this is a great pick! it's one of the best licensed games ever.

Outcast

The game did huge open world roaming in third person 3D 2 years before Rockstar did with GTA 3, with an very interesting sci fi plot about traveling to a parallel universe. I must have bought 3 PC gaming magazines just to preview the game, PC Gamer UK, PC Zone and Joystick in French.

Shame it didn't sell well despite the critical acclaim.

Another one is Hostile Waters.

256px-Hostile_Waters_coverart.jpg

FPS/RTS hybrids are extremely rare these days so I always go back to the old titles for my fill, my favorite has to be Hostile Waters, written by Warren Ellis the game had a great story and setting about a world that has forgotten war, top notch voice acting and 3D graphics that made my Pentium 3 crawl. I usual pick Battlezone but Battlezone is better known than Hostile Waters.

Didn't sell well either and Rage closed a year later.

Was tons of fun in 2-player splitscreen mode: full championship incl. 2 cpu opponents.

One year later Colin McRae Rally destroyed it in gameplay but in 1997 V-Rally was my most played video game.

Other than that I second Super Mario Sunshine.

Resident Evil 3: Nemesis and Metroid Prime 2: Echoes spring to mind.

RE3 is my second-favorite RE after REmake. It always seems to get left out when compared to the acclaim that the first two RE games get, as well as RE4. But I've always found it to be a superior game to RE2, and I think it captures the survival horror aspect of early RE better than the other PS1-era RE games.

Metroid Prime 2 is a lot closer in quality to the first Metroid Prime than it gets credit for, and I've seen a lot of people call it the black sheep of the Prime trilogy, which is why I find the game underrated. I think it's a notably better game than Prime 3, and even surpasses the first Prime in some areas. It also came around around the same time as Half-Life 2, MGS3, GTA:SA, RE4 and Halo 2 and I feel like this contributed a bit to it getting lost in the shuffle.

Pandemic's swan song. :/
Had a great open world, an intriguing story and a brilliant art style.

Pastagames (Pix the Cat) "Maestro ! Jump in Music" for the Nintendo DS

touch based rhythm platformer with the best soundtrack ever for a rythm game: from Animals to Beethoven to Ennio Morricone

fun, full of personality and awesome sound.
Only released in europe or a "demo" with 3 stages on dsi and mobile =|
Would give my firstborn to see this on WiiU's virtual console

I try not to get to into overrated underated discussions because I think most times its blown out of proportion, however two games I have seen mentioned here in my opinion really were underated and overlooked because of the glut in their respective genres and they were actually pretty good.

Binary Domain, despite having the worst stereotype black guy ever ( I refuse to use him except at the beginning) is a really overlooked cover based shooter. Had more story than most, and the enemy design actually encouraged logical thinking. Plus they had some of the better weak point layered bosses in this type of game.

Bulletstorm was a great FPS, was fun and did not take itself seriously. Total opposite to what the genre has become with cookie cutter grimdark "realistic" shooters. So it bombed and we will never see a sequel.

Some of the best co-op and multiplayer from the last generation.
And the single-player has some nice fan service. Love that game.

The Getaway Black Monday. One of my favourite PS2 games and everybody hates it and I can't figure out why. Story was great, voice acting great, graphics great audio great and the whole game's design was genius from start to end.

No hud meant every indicator was environmental. The game always tried to keep you thinking in a fast paced scenario. Unlike today's games, it didn't spawn thousands of gun hoed enemies at you. It was a game that realised petty gangs don't have a military trained army and it still managed to present a real challenge much better than similar games do today. Even the controls and game mechanics were revealed gradually and contextually. They were difficult but well worth mastering and addicting. Many of the mechanics in game the game were also ahead of there time and were eithe criticised or overlooked only to be implemented all over in games today.

It's one of few games that can stand against GTA as one of the greater open world crime games. It was built from the ground up as a unique take on the open world game that didn't rely on gimmicks to differentiate itself and showed that the GTA formula isn't the be all and end all when it came to the genre.

Playing this game recently, I couldn't believe how well it has aged, barely. The game is amazingly polished and refined and none of its mechanics feels disjointed from the rest of the package say like a modern day Ubisoft game. The game design Is crisp and focused and still massively varied in gameplay. I can't help but think devs just don't try as hard as they used to. Too many games are made with accessibility as the the main goal and everything else the afterthought. It's a shame that The Getaway 3 will probably never see the light of day but if it ever did, it would probably be filled with watch towers and yoga minigames.

This game is literally Zelda with a Western spin, made 1st party by Nintendo, and damn near nobody remembers it, and even less played it. For shame.

I've never understood how poeple bash this game. it was a amazing, challenging, unique and revolutionary JRPG. The setting was great, the music give emotion to the events. The Hp system for using magic was good and add strategy, the potion system to heal (no more pure healer base character to substain the team) . Be able to use any piece of equipement for buff or even attack. Recruit poeple to the team and create unique team like Suikoden.

It was of my favorite RPG on the SNES and i still don't understand the hate.

I'd say Metal Arms: Glitch In The System. I'll never understand how that game didn't take off.

I'd like to toss Farming Simulator on that pile as well, but I think in the back of my head I understand that it's from an extremely niche genre that will never be mainstream.
Still a better game than the much-respected ETS2...Come at me!

Champions of Norrath.

Criminally underrated game which could have been the basis for a lot of great things, yet hardly anybody seems to even remember it.

I'd say shmups and score attack as a whole are way under-appreciated, it's Dark Souls x100 for the feeling of accomplishment to be had playing them correctly.

It's on Steam BTW

Since I know a shmup is a bit out there for many ppl, I'll pick a 2nd game, something that the OP should like.

Warsong_Coverart.png

Langrisser aka Warsong in the west, by rights this and the whole series as popular as other 16bit SRPGs. Made by Career Soft the ppl who now make the Devil Survivor games for Atlus. A new Langrisser for the 3DS is in the works, it's by a different company and the character art is terrible but the core gameplay seems to be intact which is the most important thing.
