Your reaction if Retro Studios were making Mario Kart?

Honestly, as I said, I'd be disappointed but I'm almost sure that it will happen.
Metroid is in an economical limbo, up to now. MK instead is one of the key drivers for Nintendo console. Retro is one of their more acclaimed team. They collaborated for MK7. The other possible adventure they could work on (apart Metroid) could be Starfox, a brand full of doubts and issues to be contestualized in year 2013.

But if it is the case, I'd pretend them to let me know on what Konno and the previous MK team are working. And should be something really really interesting, otherwise...

whoa, had no idea retro co-developed mario kart 7

actually, they adapted all the previous existing tracks to the new game (with air and water sections, the new engine, and so on)

Jeez. You guys discuss something that appears to go straight over my head.

Dunno why Retro making a good Mario Kart is considered a bad thing. Priovided it's good, obviously. That's my one and only concern.

'Way I see it, I do not really care what franchise exactly gets the Retro Studios treatment - as long as it's on the same level of quality as Metroid Prime or maybe Donkey Kong Country Returns.

Hell, I thoroughly enjoyed Metroid Prime Pinball, I wouldn't say no to something like a zany crossover either. I had so much fun with that particular game.

I think that the problem is related to the fact that Retro, with Metroid Prime and with the recent hiring done, could be the only team (together with Monolith Soft) able to propose something really adventure-focused for the Wii U among the different internal team.

Btw, I'm thinking to an even more "bizzarre" possibility: do you remember Thunder Rally? And the rumor (3ds-related to be honest) about Mech Riders?

Mech Riders? Do you mean Mach Rider? And what did this rumor say, exactly?

yes, sorry for the mistake!
About the rumor:

2. Mach Rider Unchained is the only other major Nintendo developed title that will be shown off at their trade show. The game looks like a racing-brawler and is way darker-looking than normal Nintendo fare. Will be released in 2012 and takes place in the year 2112. Has a very gritty look and is easily the most visually impressive game I've seen running on the 3DS hardware. Gameplay switches between vehicle chases/races and overly theatrical 3D on-foot gun fights. Looks like an appeal to the western audience as all of our trade materials distinctly have the title “MACH RIDER UNCHAINED” and the phrase “YOU ARE MACH RIDER”

Just a crazy link I did few minutes ago, nothing more.

That's a 4chan rumour.

That's a 4chan rumour.

Yes ;p
But they were right about MH. And who knows? Maybe also on next Honne game for 3DS ;p

Let's just speculate a bit!
Look at the old cancelled Retro Games projects; in particular:

Action Adventure:

Thunder Rally:

Raven Blade:

considering their recent experience with Kart, their past with Metroid, their recent hiring from Vigil- Bioware, Naughty Dog and Sucker punch, they could be able to handle all those three concepts greatly.
And I would be happier than seeing them work on MK.

It'd be a giant waste of Retro Studio's talent.

Give them Metroid Prime 4 where they can cut lose and create some amazing worlds to explore rather than a cookie cutter cartoon game.

Let them make something new please, assuming Starfox has gone/will go to Platinum. Give Samus a break for a few years.

What? WHAT? Star Fox on Platinums hands? Where did you get that info?

Yes it will bother me.

Not because Mario Kart will be developed by Rare, but because Mario Kart is already announced for E3, so we will just get that and not Mario Kart plus a Rare game.

Mario Kart has been stale for a long time. Another developer could do the franchise some good, though I'd rather Retro work on something far more ambitious.

I'd love to see Sumo Digital work on a Mario Kart game. The Sonic & All Star Racing games are incredible, and the second one in particular has exactly the kind of innovation and variety that Mario Kart sorely needs.

Retro is one of the few of Nintendo's first party developers who could make something
that would appeal to the typical PS360 fanboy. Having them work on Mario
Kart would be a giant waste of their resources.

Any B-grade developer could make Mario Kart, as long as Nintendo
keeps a reasonably close watch on them. That series doesn't need
ambition or technical excellence to sell.

Ewwwwww. No thanks.

Retro should work on either Metroid, a new IP or have a crack at Zelda in collaboration will Nintendo of Japan.

I seriously would love Retro's gorgeous environments mixed into Zelda.

It might turn out cool or it might turn out like Namco Mario Kart (which still looked cool in screen shots - I still hope to come across a cabinet some day).

Bottom line is that Nintendo need to continue expanding Retro. Nintendo don't need to pull a Capcom, but they need to at least have some realization that an appeal to the West is a necessary investment in today's market.

Shit, I know it was a different age, but look at Rare in the N64 days. How did they pump out so many games? If Retro were capable of even a fraction of that output, Nintendo's prospects would be looking up.
