Yu Suzuki: 'The difference between Miyamoto and I is...'

Oblivion

Fetishing muscular manly men in skintight hosery
"The difference between Miyamoto-san and I is that he takes the same game and takes it deeper and deeper, like with the Mario series," Suzuki told 1Up.

He went on: "I like to work on different games and concepts. I don't like doing the same thing. The same goes for the hardware. I like to change the hardware I work with."

Seems like a backhanded compliment...

I'm not suggesting that Nintendo shouldn't branch out with new franchises, but being responsible for stuff like Wii Sports, Wii Fit, Nintendogs in the last five years is evidence that Miyamoto is still coming up with new ideas and franchises, even if they're directed at the mainstream crowd and not your average basement dweller.

He tries to shake up but he just can't please anyone.

Ever heard of Shenmue?
If you asked that question on the street, the common answer would be "no".

And then you ask about Zelda...

"Ever heard of Shadow of the Colossus?." "No."

"Ever heard of Call of Duty: Black Ops?."

Are you implying Suzuki's games are carefully designed worlds that immerse the player into universes with thoughtful (if brief) narratives while Miyamoto's games are pedestrian affairs that become best-sellers on hype and pandering to the lowest common denominator?

I'm baffled.

I'm baffled.

That clearly is what I am implying.

Yeah. Black Ops is a better game. That's exactly my point. Thank you.

To be fair working on Arcade games they usually have to upgrade the hardware so yes, he's allowed to say that he 'enjoys' working with different hardware.

Nah I'm kidding. I love arcades and arcade games. I also enjoyed those games.

But the way the quote is presented, one can interpret that as implying that Miyamoto doesn't have a major say in how Nintendo's hardware is designed, or how games designed for them are, well, designed.

That quote was taken from 1Up's new interview with Suzuki. I'm pretty sure that it sounds like a backhanded praise when removed from the context of the rest of the interview. In that interview, Suzuki says that Miyamoto is the father of gaming, and he's the mother.

OP trying to stir up controversy. Shame on you.

I don't think Yu has a leg to stand on with claiming he's any kind of parental figure over gaming.

Arcade gaming, sure.

Well, he only responding to a question James Mielke brought up.

"Arcade gaming, sure."

Still gaming. No, screw that noise, I'm not gonna let it go with just that. He made Virtua Fighter. Virtua Fighter. He's the mother, or at least a very cool aunt.

edit: oops, double post. my baaaaad.

Sega arcade games are hugely important.

But they are a magnitude of less importance than Nintendo and its lord creator Miyamoto.

The likes of Yu Suzuki should be duking it out with Kojima, Sakaguchi, Mikami... not to mention western creators . He can't touch Miyamoto.

Well, that's your wrong opinion.

Can't believe the Suzuki hate, guess there are too many Nintendo fanboys and Miyamoto's dickriders.
