But Watchmen was really good. And Solid Snake worked on stories for both X-Men 1 and Watchmen.

You're not gonna hate Solid Snake, are you

It was an OK movie on its own, but a bad adaption. I mean this is Watchmen goddammit, the most cerebral and thought-provoking graphic novel of our time. Its the only graphic novel that was ever made a mandatory reading for me at a University level, and rightfully so. A property like this should be granted the same care as classics like Life of Pi or The Shawshank Redemption.

I don't think there was any justice to be had in making a movie out of it tbh. If it were an HBO mini series or something, maybe.

Seems like a figure of speech to me.

If Snyder said "Bruce will be macgyvering together the Justice League", would that mean the JL film is inspired by MacGyver?

I don't know how WB/DC can be so tone deaf and inept as to leave something so monumental with Snyder. I mean, this is a guy who clearly knows he's not up to the task, and instead just shrugs it off nonchalantly. Stop giving this guy chances with such important material. It's downright frustrating.

To be fair, even his best movie is worse than the worst Marvel movie, and I'm not even a big Marvel fan.

You really like Thor 2 more than dawn of the dead? That has to be facetious

Or not. It's your opinion. I think snyder is not a good director outside of visually but I'll take a few of his movies over a good number of mediocre marvel and other studio superhero movies

Specifically dawn of the dead and prolly 300

David Hayters script:
Laurie Juspeczyk is called Silk Spectre in the comics, but this version has her codename as being "Slingshot." This is explained by having Doctor Manhattan given her the power to sling balls of energy as a birthday present.

Hayter adds Dan witnessing Rorschach's death and an intense fight between Dan and Ozymandias, in which the latter is impaled by one of Nite Owl's boomerangs.

Kojima was right to replace him

Snyder has no business ever trying to compare anything he "directs" to seven samurai. He doesn't know what subtlety is. We have a good chance Kurosawa is so offended by Snyder as a director and him even uttering the words seven samurai that he will rise from the grave to personally stop Snyder.

How did Marvel manage to get it so right and DC get it so wrong?
Marvel at least feel like they respect their characters but DC just don't seem to give a shit.

I used to be a prominent DC comics fan. But its hard these days,

I didn't mind Thor 2, it was entertaining. Dawn of the Dead remake was just ok at best.

My least favourite Marvel movie is actually Cap 1, for one of the main reasons I hate all Zack Snyder movies, it's really fucking boring.

Has Ben always looked like that? I feel like in his Kevin Smith days he was a hell of a lot more happier. Now whenever he smiles, even when genuine like on Jimmy Kimmel it looks awkward and forced.

im not one for pop psychology but Ben is really going through it right now with his divorce. I could see how that would sour one's demeanor regardless of the line of work they're in.

Say what you will about Daredevil, but at least he hooked up with his wife on that film and it became an experience they could share and look back on together and help each other move past it.

... And during this movie, they're separating. I haven't seen him legitimately "happy" since the divorce happened.

I google this story a little bit.

Why would you hire such a hot nanny?

he is a visually stunning director, but he needs a better writing partner... I dunno Zack you let us down your let DC down and most of all you let yourself down. .. for shame.

Eh, he just name dropped Seven Samurai, I don't expect to see any influence from Kurosawa whatsoever.

He's being accused of not watching the movie and taking the wrong lessons from it...by people who couldn't be bothered to read and understand a single sentence. The irony is hilarious.

I have hope they are setting up an Injustice universe and then at the end of it all, we get the actual heroes.

name-dropping is when you mention someone famous as if you know them personally. obviously Synder doesn't know Kurosawa since he's dead. he was just mentioning a great director who has influenced him, it'd be the same as mentioning Kubrick, Orwell, even current directors like Speilberg or Greengrass.

And the context is referencing the barebones story structure of Seven Samurai, not even that the film is drawing serious influence from it or the director. The anger in this whole thread is nonsense.

After having a day to process the movie...I...I am just depressed at how this universe is being set up. Its not a tone issue- just overall execution, pacing, and immersion is lackluster. I can deal with a few dud films- marvel has them as well. But damn, these are the most iconic heroes on the planet and two of who is their debut. At the very least, all I can do is hope the JL movie is good enough to overcome my dissapointment- doubt it though, with Snyder directing. And its too late for a reboot. We are stuck with this universe for the next decade, at the very least.

Whether he's mentioning someone as if he knows them to boost his credability, or mentioning their work as if he knows it to boost his credability, whats the difference? It's a differentiation without meaning.
That said, I wasn't talking about Kurosawa, but his film specifically.
I believe Snyder's never seen 7 samurai, he certainly doesn't know it personally or any way if he would drop its name into a random comment to describe his film style. Him using its name to boost his works is nonsensical and sorry.
