draw distance has always been kinda bad. lots of textures have always been kind of disappointing too. it's kinda amazing how it manages to look so much better than the sum of its parts

Some saying draw distance and resolution is worse, others saying nope. I want to play right now but don't want to let the patch install if it's really like that.
I totally did lol. I had to go to the internet to figure out what to do with my seeds.
I played around for a couple hours in handheld mode.
I'd say the shadows do seem lower res, at least in trouble areas.
Draw distance seems the same. Animals disappearing while near you isn't a draw distance thing, it happens when you've been chasing them for a while. (Basically they despawn like bugs and lizards do.)
I do think that the adaptive resolution is a little bit more intense.

Not having any filtering at all I guess, lol. But that would be horrible with textures moving around erratically like on the NDS or PS1 with their 3D Games.

I've not noticed any difference to the texture filtering or the draw distance in Switch docked mode. The texture filtering was always awful lol.
I've not seen a really blurry image again for the past few hours I've been playing so hopefully if it does drop to 720p it's in very rare cases.

Game looks and performs great now. I don't get the complaining. Almost a constant 30fps with only occasional drops in certain areas like Korok forest. Everything looks the same to me, but then I'm more an art direction type of person than technical graphics person. And this game has drips, oozes, pours with beautiful art direction.
As it is now after the 1.1.1. patch, it's virtually perfect for me. Even before this patch I'd played 90 hours and loved every minute. Now it's just even better. If I was a reviewer, it would be another 10/10 score from me. BOTW quickly has become my favorite GOAT.

Disabling texture filtering would result in pixelated textures, which is something the DS suffered from. The PS1 had texture warping, but the DS did not, just pixelated textures.
Rest assured, it would look awful. I wonder if we'll reach high enough resolution for textures where filtering won't be neccessary at all?

I'm not sure if anything has changed. The game is still smooth in most places. The town areas still seem to have a bit of slow down if you swing the camera wildly.
If you bring up magnesis you still get some slowdown (20ish FPS) in areas with multiple objects.
I killed some of those large goblins and didn't get that 'stutter' effect when they fall down, which I really only got 1/20 times I did it anyway.
Not really seeing any changes for pop in, no visual effects are nerfed that I can see. Weather effects are identical. Physics appear unchanged.
A lot of the slowdown was hard to replicate in 1.10 so I have very little means of testing. I honestly think they just made the fps in the towns slightly smoother.

The Wii U had massive frame rate drops in towns/villages. Just checked out Zora's Domain, tiny frame rate drops but it did seem a lot smoother.
Not sure what Nintendo sacrificed to make this happen though?

The only difference I've noticed is a better framerate in places where it really chugged before. It never bothered me before, but hey, I'll take it! I'm happy to see that Nintendo is actively fixing the game.
The only elgato footage I kept from previous play was from the mountains where there's snow (
). I did a side by side (Switch, docked) and as far as I can tell nothing has changed in those areas from a visual standpoint since the last patch. Interesting.
I suppose because I was never specifically looking for pop-in and the like previously I just never noticed it as much.

Because Switch is no powerhouse. Those ragdoll bugs may not be salvagable with power, tho.
Just played a couple of hours, and I didn't notice any difference in performance. Still feels like a square wheeled wagon at times.
Downgrades, sure, might appear under a microscope (I personally don't notice anything).
FPS increase though? Evidence is having played the game before and after.. Or watching a comparison vid, it's clearly improved.

80 hours in, already beat the story at I believe the 50 hour mark. I still haven't seen him.

Framerate is definitely improved. It's just more consistent across the board (there's still plenty of room for improvement, however. Some areas are def still rough.)
Were the draw distance, textures, and foliage density affected as a result? Honestly, I couldn't tell you. I wouldn't be surprised, but personally I can't tell.
But yeah, waiting for DF's verdict doesn't hurt.

There are huge framerate improvements on Switch. You sound upset by this. You'll see when the DF guys do their usual 10 mins of analysis on Nintendo games

Seems pretty clear that the framerate is better. Everything else we're waiting on better analysis, I think.
From everything I've read it seems that the update on switch provided the most improvements and not so much from everything I've played on the wii u.

Yeah I didn't record video but I did direct comparisons on both versions before and after updating. No changes in detail pop-in, and the video comparisons around show this too.
I think people are just studying the screen carefully to see framerate changes and noticing the (reasonably aggressive) pop-in for the first time, and thinking it has changed when it hasn't.

That could be the case. I went directly to Korok forest right after the patch and somehow i noticed very sudden pop in of the leaves under Hetsu that I hadn't noticed before so I thought it was due to the patch.
Really really happy about Nintendo being able to fix this and hope that going forward they don't let this sort of thing happen again.
Placebo? No. Do you play this game? I'm nearly 100 hours in. The frame rate consistency is massively better now. In general, and very noticeably in problem areas where there are still drops but nearly as much.
It's not subtle.
DF's analyses are always welcome, but not needed to see this patch noticeably improves frame rates.
It seems like it's actually a reverse placebo effect that's happening. The framerate is clearly improved in some areas, but also a bunch of people are just noticing for the first time that the game has really bad texture filtering and noticeable pop-in(if you look for it).

I'm in the same situation. Think I'll just wait to download the patch until a clearer consensus comes out.

The patch DEFINITELY improves the frame pacing.
The current things we can put under Placebo Effect until DF does their analysis are the following:
Draw Distance
Visual Bluriness
Weapon Durability
People who say resolution got worse can go wash the fucking sand out of their eyes though. The fuck is that sort of statement.
