Zelda Majoras Mask in 2:14 speedrun

OK that run was nasty. Its pretty much shows you how MM is of the same awesome design mold as Super Metroid. Your goal is to stop the Moon from hitting Termina (recover the Metroid hatchling) and to do this you must gather the four great Gaints (four Bosses) and everything else is just extra. Although its not as "clean" as the Super Metroid run (thanks that strange air walking bomb glitch), it really showed a Mastery of the elements unique to MM.

A+

It really is a masterpiece. The MM actual speedrun is also pretty amazing, though I don't know if all the known possible tricks are utilized in the one currently available on SDA. I hadn't picked up on the Super Metroid comparison, though, which is weird because I normally compare everything to SM--nice catch!

I love TAS videos, they usually provide many "holy shit!" moments. It's like stage magic: I know there's a trick, but let myself be amused nonetheless.

Oh, and for the haters who don't get it: TAS is not, I repeat, not intended to be a display of skill. TAS is not "my dick is bigger and scores higher than yours". It's about the art, about showing the games in a different light.

TAS'ing is a slow process which requires lots of patience and dedication. Do not mock those people, they literally study the game in the most minute details to come up with the most effective input sequence to beat the game or show unexpected stunts.

It's like a gaming version of parkour.

Wow TAS is like using a car in the 10,000m dash. Yay you have mad skill. . . in the wrong department.

There is a reason sports or competitions are regulated. I think gaming in this manner is like playing all the notes in a piano piece by smashing all the piano keys at once and saying. "Ya I finished it faster than you, its not my fault I play it different, watch my youtube of it"

Reposted since it would otherwise get lost at the bottom of page 1:

What codec do I need to install on my Mac to view the video? QuickTime says it needs additional software to play it, but can't tell me which one.

Yay for missing the point:

Nobody claims mad skills. They produce amazing videos.

So do the people who do all-genuine speed runs and superplays. I've seen some amazing shit in those - strategies, exploits, "how the FUCK did he do that?" - and it's all live. In the case of TAS, instead of a performance, it's a strategy guide. There's no excitement. Different strokes, I guess.

Nah, that would be non-TAS superplays.

Indeed. It's just a matter of the focus of amazement. You summarized the focus of pure speed-runs perfectly with this quote:

how the FUCK did he do that?
That's not the focus of TAS (the answer is always "slowing the game down"). Both can co-exist peacefully and its well possible to enjoy both for different reasons, but hey, this is NeoGAF.

Anybody one a Mac able to play the video? I have Flip4Mac installed, but Quicktime claims that it needs additional software in order to play. What's the format and what codec do I need to install?

Flip4Mac works only for WMVs. Try Perian if you want it to run in QT. I don't see why you'd need it, considering the movie layer is H.264 and the audio is MP3. I'm having no problems.
